Spoiler Safe Guide to Tunic

1. BEFORE YOU START

If you found a puzzle that you've been stuck on for 5 minutes and just want answers, close this guide. Seriously, go look in the manual, because without exaggeration, it contains every answer and hint you need. This guide contains few direct answers and mostly quick hints to help you along in areas of the game that are challenging. It isn't comprehensive, nor does it cover the earlier parts of the game in great detail.

We encourage you to try solving the puzzles on your own! Often times the answer is more straight forward then you might believe, and you might be very close to the solution.

Inspired by Baron's Spoiler-Safe Outer Wilds FAQ.

2. GENERAL FAQ

General questions about our cute furry friend and the world around. Later we will get into the actual game.

I can hardly understand the pages I find! Do I have to learn this language? Nope! To beat the main game you won't need to learn anything about the language, though you can if you want. However, there are a few puzzles that will require you to learn how to read the language in the late game. More on that below.

Can I parry? Yes, but it's pretty hard to actually land and most moves can be avoided by just rolling.

I'm out of stamina constantly! Is there an easier way to move around? Try holding A or [space]!

I found a weird golden thing, is it important? You found a secret treasure! You won't need any of these to beat the game, but they provide some fun content and maybe have a hidden purpose. More on that later.

Did I do X boss out of order or go to Y zone too soon? There's a "technically correct" order to everything but don't stress! This is like a metroidvania and it's made intentional that you can do bosses or areas in varying orders.

I found this card? What does it do?Try equipping it! See how it affects combat or your character.

3. THE MAIN GAME

Welcome to Tunic!

I just started but the game hasn't told me what to do...now what?Tunic is very much like old LoZ games. There are no straight explanations. There are many secrets and hidden paths, and sometimes you just have to explore the game. There's always a hint in either the game world or the manual on what to do next. It's up to you to determine where it is and figure out what it means.

I'm stuck! Help!Keep exploring and always reference the guidebook that you have. Again, it contains every answer and every hint that you need. With that said, there are 3 parts in the main game which even though they're in the guidebook, you are likely to get pretty heavily stuck on.

Here are some tips for those:

I) The First (Green) KeyYou don't have to get this key first by any means, but it's the easiest one to start with.

Hint to start you out: Do you have page 21 ? If not, keep exploring!

II) What Now?Yay! You got my favorite achievement, but what are you supposed to do?

Hint: Why did you gather the keys in the first place?

Big hint: I wonder what's in the center of the teleporter room...

III) The Hero ShrinesMost of these are pretty straight forward...except one.

Hint: Do you have page 23?

Hint 2: If not, Look at the Overworld map. Are there any parts you haven't explored because you couldn't get to them earlier?

4. GAME OVER

You beat the game!

I) So you beat the game? You took your rightful place and became the next heir ? Don't start a new game plus at this point. Instead, reload your save and look for the pages you missed . Did you check all around the Western Garden ? Did you use your newfound powers to get all the pages that were out of reach before ? What could pages 45 and 46 mean?

I was told how many pages I'm missing but I have no clue where to start! There are 5 pages that you couldn't get before without a dash, go explore and keep an eye out. There are also 2 pages that you could have accessed but are well hidden.

Hint: specifically consider revisiting The Western Garden and beach in the Overworld .

II) Pages 42 and 43 Do you have these pages? If not, here's a hint: revisit some locations in the overworld and look around. You might be suprised what you've forgotten.

Next, did you find pages 44-45? If not, a hint is to: consider page 43 and where you found page 42-43 .

I've now seen the Holy Cross written everywhere! What the heck is it?

Hint 1: If you're playing with KB+M the answer might not be so obvious.

Hint 2: The answer is simpler than you think. Revisit page 43.

Final hint: What does a D-Pad look like?

So what do you use this for? Try looking at the same page again, explore around, look at the manual, and see what comes up! For a bit more of a hint: There is another page that you can now easily access.

III) I'm still missing 2 pages!!! Whaaaa?

Let's revisit page 47 and 48. What do you see?

Hint 1: What do the pictures tell you? Where should you go?

Hint 2: What in the pictures looks like something you might have seen in the Overworld?

Hint 3: Look to the right of the Dark Tomb.

Now what??

Hint 1: Think of the Holy Cross. How did you access secrets before?

Hint 2: That seeking spell looks awfully familiar to other puzzles you've seen. Maybe you can use this?

You've now figured out the seeking spell. Where does it lead you? Look around and what do you see?

Hint: What's that on the wall? Maybe on a tapestry? Even the floor? Could it be similar to a puzzle you've done before?

5. FAIRIES

Don't worry. You still don't need to know the language for this puzzle. Simply go where the seeking spell takes you!

Wait why am I doing this? I thought I was getting pages. Check back in after several fairies. You might be surprised what rewards await.

The following will be based on page 48 , with L denoting the left column and R denoting the right one. 1 will signify the box on the top and 10 will be the bottom. For example: R10 would be seen as "East Forest" on the page.

L1

Hint: Is there anything around that looks like what you used to learn the seeking spell? Where might you start?

L2

Hint: Is there anything around that looks like what you used to learn the seeking spell? Where might you start?

L3

Hint: That's some neat moss!

Warning: Write this one down. I've noticed that screen rotation or dashing resets your input.

L4

Hint 1: Get a piece of paper. You'll need it.

Hint 2: The first and last inputs are the same. Consider the rest of the puzzle based on this.

L5

Hint: Get a piece of paper! You might need to consider that one wall holds answers that the other does not.

L6

Hint 1: What's that on the ground?

Hint 2: The starting line only counts as one input.

L7

Hint: Those are some neat rocks!

L8

Hint 1: Huh, I can't seem to find anything on the walls or the ground. Maybe if there's nothing here, I can come back at a different time?

Hint 2: Perhaps the poor little fox is tired? Maybe you could sleep the day away?

Hint 3: Try exploring the buildings in the Overworld. One might contain what you're seeking.

Hint 4: That's some neat night yoga!

L9

Hint: That's a neat rug!

L10

Hint: That's a neat wall! Wow! That's a neat tower too!

R1

Hint 1: You probably think I lied because you still can't read the language. What if I didn't?

Hint 2: Let's check out that guide book again. Maybe it holds some answers?

Hint 3: Try looking on page 34 or 52? There's something there.

R2

Hint: That's a neat tapestry!

R3

Hint: Consider when the knight stops. What could that mean?

R4

Hint 1: Have you played Legend of Zelda before? How would you open hidden walls?

Hint 2: That's a neat cube!

R5

Hint 1: Maybe you got the treasure here already, how'd you do it? Don't cheat.

Hint 2: That's a neat page 52!

R6

Hint 1: This might be a different kind of puzzle. You can't connect the shapes so what else do you notice about them?

Hint 2: Try counting.

R7

Hint 1: This might be a different kind of puzzle. You can't connect the shapes so what else do you notice about them?

Hint 2: Try counting.

R8

Hint: That's a neat ground!

R9

Hint 1: This might be a different kind of puzzle. You can't connect the shapes so what else do you notice about them?

Hint 2: Try counting.

R10

Hint 1: That sure looks like part of a puzzle. Where the heck could the rest of it be?

Hint 2: Maybe start by taking a trip to the beach?

Hint 3: Pieces of the puzzle lie around the beach in the Overworld. Where could the rest be?

6. THE FINAL PAGE

So by now you've probably run around the map more times than you ever thought necessary. You've seen everything there is to see and been everywhere there is to be. Almost. What location is still inaccessible? Can you find where it might be in the guidebook?

Now take a close look at page 49 . What could these numbers mean?

If you're still stuck, maybe consider this hint: these numbers are page numbers. Try starting with page 12?

Still stuck? That's okay. This isn't an easy puzzle. Hint 2: What stands out to you on page 12? Does something stand out like it isn't supposed to be there?

If that still doesn't help, hint 3: look at the golden box between the RB and XYB. A box huh? What was that again on page 49?

Note that every number on here is important. All will be used.

Once you've figured it out, get out a sheet of paper please! It'll make this a whole lot easier. After that, if you're really sure that you got the right solution, and I mean reeeeally sure, feel free to check it with the spoiler down below. This will be one of the few times that I give away the answer because of the high possibility of inputting an error.

Answer: up, left, down, left, up, left, down, left, up, right, up, right, up, left, up, right, down, right, up, left, up, left, up, right, up, left, down, left, up, right, up, up, left, up, right, down, right, down, right, up, right, down, left, down, right, up, right, right, down, right, up, right, down, right, up, right, right, down, left, down, left, down, right, down, right, down, left, left, down, right, down, left, down, right, up, right, down, right, up, right, right, down, down, left, up, right, up, left, down, left, up, left, up, left, up, right, right, up, left, up

7. TREASURES

Congrats! You beat the game again! This time you shared your wisdom and got the good ending.

"There's more though?" you might ask, seeing as how the guide is still going.

Yes... kind of. It's not necessary to do any of the following as you technically beat the game (twice) already, but following are some of the most fun and complex puzzles in the game. You also might learn a bit about this strange world on the way.

So, where do you start?

Well, by now you should have encountered at least one secret treasure. If you haven't, I suggest taking a look back on pages 52-54

How many are there? Do you know? And where do they go once you have them?

If you cannot figure out where they are stored, try looking at page 22. What structure could that be? What might the previous owner of this book be trying to tell you?

Once you've found the room you will notice that there are 12 empty spots for 12 treasures. Minus a few if you've already got some of the more obvious ones. Below will be a guide to helping complete this room. It will be ordered clockwise starting closest to the door. We will be skipping 2 and 4 for now, you'll see why.

A hint going forward: there might be things in the pages that you've disregarded before. Look for marks on the maps or pages that you might have skipped over. What could be at these locations?

1st Treasure, Page 28

Hint 1: Maybe you missed something from early on in the game. Did you go through all the caves?

Hint 2: There are two marks on this page, the treasure must be at one of them.

3rd Treasure, Page 53

Hint 1: Where's that structure at? I'm sure you've seen it before.

Hint 2: Follow the arrows, look for the marks on the windmill

5th Treasure, Page 39

Hint 1: What could the handwriting be signifying on this map? There sure aren't 4 enemies in that area.

Hint 2: Maybe there's something behind a gravestone or stone? Did you try using focus to have a different view?

6th Treasure, Page 53

Hint 1: Where's that location again...? Hmmmm, maybe it's near where you found your sword?

Hint 2: Hit the buttons in parentheses at the same time, not in sequence. If it doesn't work the first time, try again. It's a little hard to get down when you're not used to it.

7th Treasure, Page 48

Hint: Did you complete the page?

8th Treasure, Page 28+34

Hint 1: Between these two pages, which one might have the location of where this treasure is? What does that mean the other one is?

Hint 2: Try turning the music volume to 0.

Hint 3: If you can't see anything, then maybe reconsider your approach.

Hint 4: The chime plays in sequences of two. Refer back to page 34 for what that could mean.

Final hint: Listen closely to the chime, as it plays sequences of two notes it will do one of 4 things (play a higher note 2nd, lower note 2nd, same note 2nd or have no 2nd note). Compare this to the drawing on 34 and you might have an answer for the inputs.

9th Treasure, Page 11

Hint 1: What does this page tell you about a treasure?

Hint 2: What do the handwritten marks mean?

10th Treasure, Page 34

Hint: Is there a handwritten marking? Does it tell you where to go?

11th Treasure, Page 32

Hint 1: Follow the marking

Hint 2: Get sweeping. Consider that a fox might not know how to use a broom.

12th Treasure, Page 44

Hint: Follow the marking. There might not be a visible path there.

8. THE FINAL TREASURES

Congrats! Welcome to the fun part. Now we'll go back to puzzles 2 and 4, but wait! Can you figure out what we need to do first? That's right, it's time to *drum roll* learn the language! Yayyy!!!! Don't be intimidated! We're here to hint! Let's visit page 54 and take a very close look at what's written. What could this mean? Ready a fresh sheet of paper because here we go.

General hints on learning the language:

1) Those drawings on the right are of a fox and a sword, no there isn't any other name to them, they're just a fox and a sword.

2) So if that's a sword, why does it only have 2 characters?

3) Look at the first character in fox, there are 2 components to it. Why? What do you notice about the components?

4) There are circles around a character in both words, what might the two words share?

5) Big spoiler: fox and sword both share a "sss" sound. Can you now assign sounds to the other characters in the words?

6) Bigger spoiler: this language is one made of sounds. Fox should be pronounced like f-aw-k-s, sword should be pronounced s-or-d. Now assign these characters to the one's on the left.

7) Now you should have 6 characters known. Have you noticed that you could split the symbols on the left into two groups? What would the groups be based on thus far?

8) Biggerest spoiler: think vowels and consonants

Okay! Now it's time to start looking around in the guidebook, and just figure out symbols based off what pieces you know. Consider single words like controls or locations that you know.

Why does the typed text look different than what I just saw on page 54? How are words signified in this language? How do you know where a space is or isn't?

But why is there a space under the line? Stylistic purposes. I know this makes it a bit harder to learn but it does make the written characters more appealing.

I've looked everywhere and I can't find a few of the characters. That's okay. Don't stress out about it too much as you probably have enough basis to go on in order to start. If you happen to find one, translate the rest of the word and try your hardest to think of what that missing character could be. Chances are it's simpler than you think.

What the heck does a circle under the word mean? Your first hint is to reference page 21 .

If you really don't understand what these mean then here's another hint: not all words start with a consonant .

Okay so finally we come back to 2 and 4. I hope you have your paper ready because get translating

2nd Treasure, Page 40

Hint 1: Translate both 6 and 8. You'll need them both.

Hint 2: Where's the library? It's not the great library, it must be inside The Cathedral.

Hint 3: What do the two S notations mean on the map?

Hint 4: Try a few different things to get inside. Maybe it's not an item that'll get you in?

Hint 5: What does moonlight mean in this case? Could it be referencing the time?

4th Treasure, Page 51+1

Hint 1: Translating will help you, but if you're feeling lazy, what similarities do these two pages share?

Hint 2: Take a picture. It'll help.

Hint 3: What oh what could that translation mean? This is unlike any other puzzle you've encountered before and it kind of sounds like a riddle...

Hint 4: It's a riddle. What's a soft feather? Is it an up feather? A right feather? Maybe something else?

Hint 5: Corrected eleven times? What direction could that be referencing?

Hint 6: Departed once more? What direction could that be referencing?

Hint 7: It's once more than eleven.

9. THE FINAL PUZZLE

So the treasures are part of the final puzzle, but you have them all? Whaaa? How could there be more?? Have you tried revisiting the treasure room? Have you specifically tried translating the page where the treasures are?

What does this page mean????This kinda seems like a riddle again huh? Let's start with the golden path . Where would you go to find that?

Hint: If you're lost, try using the guidebook to remember what the golden path is.

Okay so now, what the heck does un-sing mean?

Hint: Un-sing: To take back something sung; to undo the singing of.

And what about the last part?

As seen from within could mean a lot of things. What's your first interpretation?

Here's your first hint: You're first impression might be to start from within the puzzle itself, ie: the center tile. Think bigger.

A second hint: perhaps you think that from within simply means to look in the guidebook. While you may be right... this doesn't change anything about what we must do. Think Chekhov's gun. Why is this part of the riddle here? What does it want us to do?

Third hint: Within means inside, literally in the center. Try placing your perspective there.

Big, and final hint: try viewing the golden path from the center of the guidebook. What does that change?

So at this point you should know that there are 2 parts to the final answer.

First, you must un-sing the golden path (do it in reverse)

Second, you must flip all left and right directions, as the page will be flipped horizontally due to viewing it from the other side.

Now make sure you understand the rest of page 54 to know where to go.

Again, since this is a really long sequence, here is the answer below to cross check your work with.

Final answer: Down, Left, Down, Right, Right, Down, Left, Down, Left, Down, Left, Up, Left, Down, Right, Down, Left, Up, Up, Right, Right, Down, Right, Up, Right, Down, Right, Up, Left, Up, Right, Up, Left, Left, Up, Right, Up, Right, Up, Left, Up, Left, Up, Right, Right, Down, Right, Up, Right, Down, Right, Up, Right, Right, Down, Right, Up, Left, Up, Right, Down, Right, Up, Right, Up, Right, Down, Left, Down, Down, Right, Down, Left, Up, Left, Down, Right, Down, Left, Down, Left, Down, Right, Up, Right, Down, Left, Down, Right, Down, Right, Down, Left, Up, Left, Down, Left, Up, Left, Down

But wait! Nothing happened?? Well: write down the characters goofball, translate it and see where it takes you.

Final hint: it's a website.

10. CLOSING THOUGHTS

You've gotten this far, congratulations! If you're looking to discuss what you've just experienced then check out other community posts, the subreddit, or the unofficial discord (spoiler warning for these of course). There are plenty of fan theories out there about the lore and results of the final puzzle, many of which have noticed subtle things that you won't have. Believe it or not, there are even *more puzzles* (mostly for easter egg purposes) hidden deep in the game's audio files as well which are still being solved by a community effort in these places. Also, if you've managed to figure out how to translate the language, try taking a quick look at the game title again ;)

I hope you've enjoyed this wonderful game and had a fun time solving puzzles and finding hidden secrets!
