Boss: Poisonous Pete

For this set of missions, you can’t go wrong by watching the cut scenes and reading all the pop-up boxes, as they’ll teach you the basics of the game as well as where you’re meant to go and what you have to do.

After completing these, you can then customise and change the formation of your worm squad, so instead of four Soldiers, you can have one of each class and use their individual perks to find your success. Of course your squad choice is completely up to you, but as a personal recommendation, having two Scientists in your squad is a must, certainly for the later stages as their +5 health bonuses at the start of their turn prove handy when you’re facing a barrage from nine angry AI worms. They provide better protection for other worms too due to their improved golden girders so you can be stayin’ alive for longer.

Heavy worms are also an excellent choice due to their increased damage, but a full team of them will make it extremely difficult to get to those worms who take to hiding from you.

Scouts, whilst useful in any multiplayer madness you may indulge in, are not particularly great in Campaign missions as they’re weak and fly much further when hit. In the Farm campaign certainly, you’ll want to keep all your worms alive whilst doing as much damage as possible and the tiniest variety of worm has trouble sticking to those rules of thumb unfortunately.

The game can be completed with any combination of worms, so find your own style and reap the rewards!

Beach Campaign

The Beach Campaign features eight levels. The first seven may be played in any order, but must all be beaten to unlock the eight level, which is a boss battle.

1. Beach BanditsShades and Blister (the first two worms you come across) can go down with one shot each if you hit them right. The other two worms will need introducing to the water above them and the mines below them in order to do the most damage and get rid of them.

2. Wave of DestructionThe water bottle in the middle of the map can be knocked down onto the enemies and then destroyed to drench and wash some of them away. Explosives like the mine and the Lighter will add damage onto your attacks to make quick work of these worms.

3. Life's a BeachYou start with a jetpack here so fly over the first sentry gun and collect the crates as you progress up to the left where the enemies lie in wait. Coupling the poison fish’s stinky gas along with the mines and water around them will whittle down their health easily.

4. Beware Pirates!Try knocking all the enemy worms onto the indestructible landscape slope and then wash them away with the dynamic water on the top right of the map. Any stragglers can be dealt with using the Bazooka and shotgun to cause the most damage.

5. Pain Ahoy!A few worms are positioned close to the edge of the landscape from the start, so knock them into the water for easy kills. Otherwise, the Bottle, mines and barrels can group the worms together for even easier pickings.

6. Beach BrawlWhy are all the enemies positioned so close to the mines on this level? Take it as a sign and knock the silly worms into them to cripple them quickly. The damaged Water Bottle hanging in the roof is also a good target, as the water will wash down the worms, grouping them together and taking health off each turn, unless they worm their way out of it.

7. Sand and DeliverLike previously, dynamic water, explosive physics objects and mines are your friends here – along with the strike weapons you begin this map with. This should be like doing the worm at an 80’s disco party by now.

8. Boss: Cap'n PlankUsing the right weapon to knock each worm into their holes should be easy enough now you’ve had some practise. Remember to wash away the sentry guns before attempting to descend towards the boss worm using the parachute. A cheeky Dynamite crate at the end should be all the hints you need to end this scurvy worm.

Spooky Campaign

Ohh, the eerie chill of the Spooky themed maps. With these missions, you’ll face more enemies than ever before, so try and keep out of harm’s way at all opportunities.

1On your left at the start is a lone worm, pick him off straight away to reduce their force. Use the dynamic water in the physics object on the top right to submerge the worms for as long as possible, the Volt Meter can drop onto the drowning worms and exploded to cause more trouble for them, and strike weapons can also contribute greatly towards damaging the whole enemy team.

2Try to destroy the oil barrel on the far right of the landscape in the first few turns to cause a highly-destructive chain reaction – get the crates as soon as possible too! One worm is sitting by himself at the bottom of the slope by your worms, so walk down there and poke him into the water below. Standard Bazooka shots into groups of enemies should make this one relatively straight-forward.

3Follow the introduction movie’s advice and destroy the Vial physics object on the right-hand side of the map. There are also 3 Heavy worms bunched next to an oil barrel on the right which you’ll need to hurt fast before they hurt you. To get the worms hiding down the holes, grenades do a pretty good job so get them chucked!

4Get off the island you start on as soon as possible – the enemy will try to knock you off it straight away. Destroying the Vial physics object on the top right of the map will remove a few worms in one swift move, and a clever use of strike weapons will help you to remove the rest from the landscape.

5The worm above your first worm is an easy first target – take him out. The physics objects can cause some serious damage in this mission too so try and bunch the enemy worms together then blow them sky high. The crates in the middle of the map also provide a good boost to your arsenal if you can find the time to get to them.

6Time is limited on this mission, so you have to move fast. Be sure to get rid of the Sentry guns before attempting to progress through the mission, the rest of it should be just choosing the right weapon and making good shots to finish the enemy.

7Your first shot on this map should go into the landscape holding the pool of dynamic water on the right of your starting worm – this will unleash a watery torrent which will remove a few worms from your sight, and maybe even kill one if you’re lucky. There is a worm underneath and a worm to the right of your team’s spawn which will cause problems early so they’re a priority too. Long-range grenades are helpful against the worms on the right-hand side of the map.

8Take on the role of a highway man and use Stick Up on the yellow worms to take their items, they’ll prove useful. Otherwise stay out of sight of the sentry guns, and out of the open too or you’ll face the wrath of Dr Frankenworm!

Farmyard Campaign

As the final campaign in the game, the difficult ramps up to the peak of ‘Rock Solid’ here, but these pointers should give you an advantage, and so long as you’re making accurate enough shots you should be able to reach maximum worm destruction as you cross the finish line, even if you have to limp your way there.

1Blowing up the Bottle physics objects unleashes dynamic water which will not only wash away some worms, but wash others into mines and keep them submerged causing plenty of damage very early into the mission. You can also stay quite high up in this level to avoid taking damage and just pick the right shots when you get chance.

2Kill the worm on the left and the right as soon as possible, then use cover for the rest of the mission to avoid taking too much damage from the higher-perched worms. To dispatch the enemy efficiently, bunch them together using dynamic water, or explode a physics object so it causes pain to as many of their wormy faces as possible.

3There are 4 worms positioned very close to the edge of the landscape, so 4 easy kills. Again, the crates are essential and the dynamic water can submerge a few worms like in previous missions. Strike weapons can help out if another shot is too difficult to make.

4Use the dynamic water again to render a few worms as fish bait. The mines and Lighter fluid physics objects will cause enemy worms to fall into dynamic water as well as causing plenty of damage so use your bazooka shots to knock them into place when you can.

5Possibly the most challenging Campaign mission in the game, the notorious Farm 5 will have you crying for mercy unless you follow these tips. Collecting the crates in the bottom right of the map will help enormously - try get those as soon as possible. The enemy have plenty of strike weapons on this one, so hiding directly underneath them or physics objects will prevent them from using them on you. Otherwise, stay on the lower level of the map for as long as you can, and pick off the enemy when they come down to attack.

6The first 3 worms can be taken out in 3 turns so get rid of them by bunching them together and blowing up the Lighter fluid. Make your way through the dynamic water to reach the two crates – one contains a Banana Bomb which can take out most of the enemies in one turn, then use the dynamic water on the right hand side of the map to drown the other worms before feeding them a banana split to the face.

7As always, dynamic water is key to washing away enemies quickly. Try knocking the higher-placed worms down as soon as possible, then use grenades down the gaps to take them out without exposing yourself. Drop down for those that try and avoid you, and attempt to get them into the base water for a quick path to the finale.

8Use the Lighter fluid physics object as a bridge to begin with, then you’ll have to progress through the mission quickly – you start with low health, and unfortunately there are no health crates either, so keeping hidden on enemy turns is vital to success on the final mission. The final worm won’t look so tough when you flush him down the drain, muhaha!

If you’ve made it through all of those without breaking something, excellent job! To truly complete the Campaign missions, you should have gold medals on all of them, but it’s understandable if you want to give it a rest before going back to 100% them all. Next stop, puzzles!
