Introduction
With the introduction of a new physics engine and dynamic water in Worms Revolution, many of the weapons and utilities like the ninja rope have been redesigned with these new features in mind. New dynamics of speed, accelaration, and gravity come in to play using the rope now in ways that were never possible before.
Many veteran and die-hard Worms players are not so fond of the new rope mechanics, mostly because it's such a big change from what they are used to in previous titles, specifically Worms Armageddon and Reloaded. Also because they have not given the new rope a fair chance. I for one have spent many hours using the new rope and with lots of practice I have finally mastered it. If you take my advice and follow this guide you can become a roping master too!
Lesson 1: Auto-Release
Along with the new rope mechanics, another feature new to Worms Revolution is the auto-release function. Auto-release allows you to hop over ledges and sharp angles of terrain by holding the up arrow key.
This function also has its disadvantages, however. The only way it works is if you attach your rope to the very edge or corner of the landscape, allowing you to hop over the edge without bumping into anything.
It may take some practice but after a few tries you will be able to navigate the terrain much easier and reach areas of the map that would be unreachable without the rope.
Lesson 2: Gaining Momentum
Like other Worms titles, the rope in Worms Revolution allows you to gain speed with the rope by pressing the direction keys with the correct timing.
The main difference between the new rope and the rope in older games is it's flexibility. In older titles the rope was very ridgid and stiff, it stays the same length and only bends when it wraps itself around a piece of the landscape. In Revolution, the rope acts more like a bunjee cord than a wire. This means it can bend and stretch and spring itself in different directions.
To use these physics to your advantage, you must remember that the weight of your worm effects the rope's momentum. For example, heavy worms weigh more than other classes for obvious reasons, making him the fastest worm with the rope because his weight creates more momentum. The downside is heavy also takes more fall damage so you have to be careful.
If you hold the up/down arrow keys while you are swinging in a certain direction you will gain or lose momentum, but it will also extend/retract the rope at the same time. The trick is to gain momentum right before you detach the rope and you will go flying in the air. Detaching the rope and reattaching it at the correct time is also important when it comes to gaining speed.
Lesson 3: Shopper Mode
One of the best ways to practice and perfect your roping skills is by playing the Shopper game mode. This mode gives you infinite ropes and infinite swings so you can practice as much as you want until the time runs out. Weapon and health crates also fall in hard-to-reach places that you can only collect using the jetpack and rope.
Try to collect every crate that falls during your turn with enough time to spare to attack your enemy. In no time you will be swinging around the map like Tarzan! Just remember that other game modes have limited ropes so try to reach your destination without re-equipping the rope or swinging too many times.
