Wartales ranger build (incl. Gameplay) The Crafty Poisoner

Purpose

The purpose of this build is simple: kill as many enemies as possible every single round, and boy, it will kill a lot. All of that without taking any damage or even engaging with enemies directly.

Convenience

Like most of the builds I play with, it’s easy to pull off. All necessary equipment can be crafted. It’s viable from early to end game. And the build has pretty much linear progression; every update makes it even stronger until all pieces fit together. At that point you’ll have a vicious killing machine in your mercenary group, and your enemies will tremble before you.

Core Idea

The goal is to kill multiple enemies per turn and do so consistently. We’re going to rely on poison and bleeding debuffs to bypass the enemy armor and directly hit their health pool. Therefore, we have to apply bleeding and enough poison so that at the end of their turn, they simply die.

Skills & Profession

Profession

We want to maximize the crit chance, so Tinkerer is the way to go. We get a flat 12% increase in crit chance at a master level, which gets us closer to 100%.

Skills

Level 2 – Valorous Victory

Level 3 – Poisoner

Level 5 – Instinctive Throw

Level 8 – Explosive Gas

Level 10 – Unstoppable

Level 12 – Class specialization - Low Blow

Equipment

Armor and Helmet

Any light armor and helmet should do it. Even though the build will certainly benefit from armors that improve crit chance, it is not necessary; we still hit a solid 100%.

Helmet stamp

My pick here is Legionary’s Ointment. Ranger will kill enemies with poison and bleeding, but if we can, why not add an extra kill or two if possible? Extra bleeding from any attack will help us there.

Armor layers

Ideally we want to go with Mihr Brooch, which increases crit chance by 15%. Apply it three times and we get a solid 45% increase in crit chance, which is huge. If you don’t have access to it, go for any layer that increases crit chance.

Weapon

Pick any dagger you’d like, our damage will come from poison and bleeding, so it’s not essential. Put whatever you have access to.

Weapon oils

The Brave’s oil – I’m usually very conscious of valor consumption, so this oil is fantastic for regenerating valor when we use skills.

Bleeding oil – it’s a bit tricky oil; usually, people think it applies bleeding, but that is not the case. If the enemy is already bleeding and we have bleeding oil applied to the weapon, then there’s a chance that the bleeding effect will kick in, i.e. a 25% (with bleeding mastery) health reduction immediately. This ties back nicely with the helmet stamp Legionary’s Ointment. Enemies that are outside of bomb and poison effects, we can use other skills to trigger Instinctive Throw, this in turn will apply bleeding and try to apply bleeding oil effects at the same time. Even though it has 25% chance of applying effects it still works great.

Off-hand

Obviously we need to pick hand bomblet, which is pretty cheap to craft and keep around, so that’s not a big deal, but is a crucial part of the build.

Belt accessory

We opt for The Brave’s oil concentrate, which increases the chance of applying oil effects by another 50%. This means that every time we use a skill that requires valor, we gain it back.

Gameplay

Final Thoughts

Very tactical build, to say the least. Also very satisfying during the process and once you complete it. Essentially, we have a multi-target and single-target damage dealer at the same time.

If you'd like to get even more details about the skills and various aspects of the build, I've written an extensive post about it on my blog. Feel free to check that as well.
