Wartales archer build (incl. Gameplay) The Elusive Hunter

Purpose

The purpose of the build is to kill the enemies from a distance, sometimes even drawing them out from the frontline and slowly killing them over multiple turns, while staying out of reach of enemy units.

Convenience

From my experience, archers generally struggle to put out high damage while leveling up. They really shine in the endgame. This build is not an exception.

Having said that, the build is still valuable during the early stages of the game. Sometimes you want to slow down enemies. Other times, you want to draw them out from the frontline, and so on. There are many creative ways you can benefit from this build while leveling up.

Besides, no special gear or legendary weapons are required; everything can be crafted and replicated for multiple different builds for your convenience. This is a huge advantage. Chasing down specific bosses or quests for particular gear is a bit of a hassle from my experience, and it’s something I avoid unless I absolutely have to.

Core Idea

The core idea behind the build is really simple: stay out of enemies’ reach and kill them from afar. So we’ll be using skills and equipment to facilitate exactly that. Ideally, we are positioned somewhere far from the frontline and slowly thinning enemy lines as the battle goes on.

Skills & Profession

Profession

As we try to maximize the crit chance, Tinkerer is the way to go. We get a flat 12% increase in crit chance at a master level, which gets us closer to 100%.

Skills

Level 2 – Valorous Victory

Level 3 – Hunter

Level 5 – Reinforced Arrows

Level 8 – Easy Prey

Level 10 – Lone Wolf

Level 12 – Class specialization - Subtlety

Equipment

Armor and Helmet

Any light armor and helmet should do it. Even though the build will certainly benefit from armors that improve crit chance, it is not necessary; we still hit a solid 100%.

Helmet stamp

We go for Bandit’s Focus here. They are the most common enemy, and if you can extract the helmet stamps (with Master Tinkerer), it’s very easy to get. It increases crit chance by 20 percent and aids in achieving a solid 100%. Even though it costs one valor point, worry not, we’ll counter that with oils.

Armor layers

Ideally we want to go with Mihr Brooch, which increases crit chance by 15%. Apply it three times and we get a solid 45% increase in crit chance, which is huge.

Weapon

Any bow should do, but I highly highly recommend the war bow. With regular shots, if we crit, it shoots another time. It’s easy to get from your regular contracts and is invaluable when dealing with high-armored enemy units. Essentially we get another free shot.

Weapon oils

The Brave’s oil – I’m usually very conscious of valor consumption, so this oil is fantastic for regenerating valor when we use skills.

Perforating oil – it will ignore 50% of guard, which is very very good, when going against targets with high armor and guard.

Belt accessory

We opt for The Brave’s oil concentrate, which increases the chance of applying oil effects by another 50%. This means that every time we use a skill that requires valor, we gain it back.

Final Thoughts

There’s not really much to add here, if you fancy sniping the enemies (which is something that I do) this is the build for you. At some point I’ll write about the ultimate version of that, but for now, that should do it.

If you'd like to get even more details about the skills and various aspects of the build, I've written an extensive post about it on my blog. Feel free to check that as well.
