Purpose
It’s a multi-purpose build. The primary goal is to reinforce the frontline, support the tanks, retaliate, and punish enemies that attack. But it doesn’t stop there; this is a very tactical build.
Convenience
Very easy to pull off, the power of The Staunch Pikeman comes from the skills, not gear. Do you have some fancy legendary weapons or armor? Be my guest, use that, but it’s not necessary.
Core Idea
Spearman has a very interesting skill tree, and there are so many good options that it’s very hard to pick the ones you need. It’s even harder to choose the skills that work well together. With this specific build, the core idea is to pick the skills that will boost the defensive capabilities, resilience, and overall efficiency of the entire party.
Aptitude Points
Willpower - 15
Movement - 20-22
Rest goes to crit chance and str or const, depending on your preference
Skills & Profession
Profession
I don’t have a strong opinion here. Haven’t min-maxed it for either defense or attack, so you can pick whatever boosts Strength or Constitution. I personally opted for Miner, which grants +7 Constitution and +5 Strength at master level, which balances things out and has worked perfectly fine.
Skills
Level 2 – Valorous Support
Level 3 – Pikeman
Level 5 – Fervent Support
Level 8 – Last Push
Level 10 – Unstoppable
Level 12 – Class specialization - Sweet Spot

Equipment
Armor and Helmet
Any medium armor and helmet should suffice. Even though the build will certainly benefit from armors that improve crit chance, strength, or constitution, they are not necessary. The build still functions exceptionally well even without them.
Helmet stamp
My pick here is Legionary’s Ointment. Why not cause bleeding with every damage? It will make pikemen even deadlier.
Armor layers
Ideally we want to go with Mihr Brooch, which increases crit chance by 15%. Apply it three times and we get a solid 45% increase in crit chance, which is huge. If you don’t have access to it, go for any layer that increases crit chance.
Weapon
Pick any spear you like, I usually go for crafted gear which is pretty cool in this game.
Weapon oils
The Brave’s oil – I’m usually very conscious of valor consumption, so this oil is fantastic for regenerating valor when we use skills.
Perforating oil – it will ignore 50% of guard, which is very very good, when going against targets with high armor and guard.
Belt accessory
We opt for The Brave’s oil concentrate, which increases the chance of applying oil effects by another 50%. This means that every time we use a skill that requires valor, we gain it back.
Gameplay
Final Thoughts
Very versatile and useful build. It has a great synergy with the tanks. It’s even better if you’d like to have multiple tanks for a solid frontline, which is something that I do often.
If you'd like to get even more details about the skills and various aspects of the build, I've written an extensive post about it on my blog. Feel free to check that as well.
