Denmark is a unquie faction which follows different strategies both on the campaign map and in battle. It is given that Denmark is not like the other factions seen in Medieval 2 total war. Denmark starts in the northern part of the European map and is in a good loaction geographically. You are automatically surrounded with rebel settelments and starts with a good amount of funds. Denmark is part of the Catholic Chruch and is influenced by the pope. Given this it is important that you are part of the church. Limits will be made towards Denmark (I will explain later). Denmark starts off in a enclosed area which makes it easy for you to expand. When it comes to later game you will have many opportunities to what you will want to do. There are the British Isles to the west and Russia to the right. Having the Holy Roman Empire as your neighboor may create competition as your always tring to outsize each other. Through my experience of gameplay the real threat to Denmark is the Holy Roman Empire because of their military power. In early game though Denmark has the military power to conquer nearby rebel settlements. Denmark has the advantage of access to the ocean which gives you great molbilty when transporting units from place to place. The real intreseting aspect of Denmark is it's selection of units thorughout the campagin. They are the most effective soilders in the game (In my opinion).

Viking Radiers

These infantry killing machines are by far the best early game soldiers I have ever seen. Viking Raiders are very effecient on the battlefield and should be a real threat to your enemy. These soldiers rip though armour as if their enemy is not wearing any and pose a threat to both light and heavy infantry. Viking Radiers are your Anti-Infantry soldiers.

Pros

Very effective against light/heavy infantry.

Tears through armoured soldiers.

Starts with good attack/defense.

Very dependable units.

Cons

Can be vunerable to Calvary charges. Causes them to retreat.

Can be a little expensive in early game (480 funds) (Upkeep: 155).

Norse Archers

These archers are strong and dependable units that carry bows. Norse Archers are acually stronger than your regular spearmen (Melee wise). They have decent melee attack since they carry a sword rather than a small knife like other archers. Norse Archers start with Padded armour which is a major advantage. Not only can they withstand enemy arrows while firing back but can engage in melee battle (Which most archers cannot do). The armour these archers have is a total of 16!

Pros

Good missile attack (Esspecially in early game).

Good armour which allows them to last longer when fighting other archers.

Can engage in melee battle and pose as a threat.

Cons

Can be vunerable to calvary soldiers and calvary charges.

May need support from other allied units when in melee battle.

Vunerable to crossbow men since their armour cannot protect them.

Norse Swordsmen

These swordsmen are your main infantry and should be used against any faction you at war with. With their good attack and defense these soldiers can be deadly in any situation/location. Later in the game they wil become your military backbone. These solid soldiers will provide powerful front lines. Norse swordsmen are very effective in melee and can withstand any infantry type. They can pose a threat to calvary. You can depend on these swordsmen to fight till the end and thats why they are you military backbone. These soldiers count as heavy infantry (basically early heavy infantry).

Pros

Strong melee unit which can withstand almost any soldier type.

Cheap knight with good stats (400 funds) (upkeep:150) less than Viking Raiders!

Cons

May be expensive to bulid up military bulidings just to recruit these soldiers.

RIght in the beginning of the game the first step you engage in is "expanding". You accomplish this by conquering nearby rebel settlements. Since Denmark has many nearby rebel settlements it is advised that you expand as quickly as possible. I have mapped out a attack plan for you in this section of the guide. But first here are some things to keep in mind while expanding your empire.

Do not engage in a war with other factions in Early game.

Spend wisely when recruiting units, make sure you do not purchase too much.

When capturing settlements, do not bulid expensive buildings (I will explain the economic plan later).

First plan of action

You are given two decent armies right in the beginning of the game. One contains a general and one doesnt. The army with the general has strong soldiers and could attack right away. Send the army to attack Hamburg right away, then can take the settlement with ease. Now for the other army, it would be advised to send them into your capital settlement because they have no general. There is always a little chance of a army with no general to rebel aganist you because of no leadership.

You start off with a ship on the west side of your capital. Send this ship to the inner part of the islands so it is easier to transport armies. This will be very important when you are invading other settlements. It is good to have at least two ships at your command.

Second plan of attack

This is your capital. In order for you to be able to form a suitable army you must focus on military bulid. Start building what is indicated in the picture. This will enable the recruitment of spearmen. You will need these soldier to take the setttlments in the next plan of attack step. It is recommended that you not build any unwanted buildings. Such as balistics or castle upgrade.

Third plan of attack

These settlements are going to be the hardest to obtain. You are going to be in a race between Poland for the settlements. It is important you invade as quick as possible. Do what ever it takes to obtain these settlements. The one highlighted in yellow is going to be the hardest to obtain because of time. That settlement is closest to Poland and is easy to capture. Use the army in humburg to invade the western settlement. once you can recruit spearmen, use the army you had settled in your capital plus some spearmen to invade the top settlemen. That settlement contain quite a bit of forces so overwhelming them is the best attack. In order to transport this army over to the top settlement use the ship you have. This will transport the army much faster. Once that army you have captures the top settlment, have that army invade the Yellow settlement if you can. Given that Poland does not have it yet.

Fourth plan of attack

There are two settlements above you to the north. The one indicated in red is your best choice of capturing. The one indicated in white is very powerful. The settlement contains Viking raiders and crossbow men. It is recommeded that you leave the settlement alone until you have more powerful soldiers in later game. If you invade now it will be a big cost of money in which you could have used to capture other settlements. Keep in mind both of these settlements contain viking raiders so you have to send suitable armies to invade them. Use ships to transport your armies, it will be much faster.

Fifth plan of attack

There is a hard to see settlement above Poland and to the left of Russia. This is a good settlement to obtain. It is easy to capture and can be developed. It is a good settlment to have if you are going to go to war with Russia. Use a ship to transport your army to this settlement.

Now that you have all the settlements you could have captured it is time for economic growth. There will be more details about this in the next section.

When taking settlements select the Sack option. This means you will take most of the peoples resoruces and thereby increasing you funds.

Growth/ Economic Plan

In this section It is now time for your economic plan. With the settlements you have right now fortify them. Do not engage in any more battles because they will harm your economy. The key to a good economy is Trade and Farming. The castle you normally have is Hamburg, this is going to be the settlement that contains most of the military. In order for you to advance anywhere you need FARMS . The best way to produce funds is by converting most of your settlements into towns, thereby transforming them into cities. Towns have more economic bulids. The more population you gain the more your settlement can grow.

It is important to view your economy every now and then. The funds indicated in red is your payed money. These are funds taken away from your income because of things you need to pay for such as Army upkeep and buliding construction. The funds indicated in green is your income every turn. These comes from trade, farming, mining and etc. When you are bulding upon your economy it is important that the Green funds are more than your Red funds. If it were the other way around you would go into debt, and thats bad. The funds indicated in Blue in the amount of funds you will have next turn.

Here is the basic bulding layout for Towns. Use this to refer to when developing your settlements. Important: When you have no general in charge of your settlement set the town to Growth Policy. This tells the settlement to focus on growing the population. A mount and Bailey will get you nowhere. It is a waste of money. Towns are vunerable to attacks if not protected properly.

Keep in mind that Towns cannot produce heavy infantry. In this case towns will not give you Norse Swordsman.

This is the basic layout for a castle. In order to have a castle you must first create a wooden castle. Then population must meet the requirements for your settlement to become a legit castle. Castle will provide the best defense against attacks. If you at war with another faction it is smart to have castles at their borders to have a good defense to their armies. Castles are your main military power houses.

Diplomacy

It is always best to have good relationships with other factions. If you just stay netural it is more likely that faction will attack (For no reason). Your starting capital can produce diplomats so its recommend you keep sending them all over the map. Send some to the west where France/England are. Send some to the south where Holy Roman Empire, Milian, and Venice. Send some to the east where Poland, Hungary, and Russia are. When you first speak with them get them to agree on trade rights, this will help your faction grow more.

When you can, try to follow this dipomat policy. When you can give more than what is expected than charge for it. This right here will help you indeed! That extra 500 funds might not be much, but if you repeat it over and over, it adds up.

If you want to ensure you will not get doubled teamed by poland and Holy Roman Empire during you early game ally with them. It is a good way to start harmless to each other. Iam all for going in guns blazing and taking everybody out but in this case you cannot. If you were to wage war against almost any faction the pope gets mad and commits you of christian crimes. This will lead you to a cease fire towards the faction your at war with. But while you are a cease fire your enemy gets more time to build up there forces. Its really unfair but later in the game you will be powerful enough.

Future Plans

At this point in the game you have the necessary needs for you to invade Europe any way you want. Just keep building on your economy and military and things should go very well. Now when it comes to future plans its all up to you, but if you were to ask me:

Attack Russia, they are not part of the Christan religion so you can destroy them with ease.

Build up an army to invade scotland all the way over there in the British Isles.

Straight up invade Holy Roman Empire/ Poland, this may be difficult but its possible. I recommend getting allies to support you. The Holy Roman Empire always has faction who dislike them.

Thank you for reading, I really hope this has helped you in any way. If you have questions please ask and if you want any advice just go ahead and ask. I will make more faction guides if people need it. Good luck!!!
