Officers and Soldiers

Officers and Soldiers

Introduction

This guide will show all different types of Captains, Soldiers, and Officers from their factions in Story Mode and Multiplayer. Keep in mind some of these pictures are not exactly the best quality nor resolution, but it's hard to take pics when these guys keep fidgeting. Also, some factions do not have certain types of units, such as Siv's Raiders, who lack a Shield Captain.

EDIT: As of the Marching Fire Update, Captains have been moved to Arcade and Skirmish while the ones in Dominion and Breach have been renamed to Officers and can now be Executed like normal Heroes. Soldiers can now stun Heroes out of Executions and Revives, Also, their death animations by the Heroes' specific weapons have been removed, meaning you cannot clear a large group of them through a chain of moves without wasting much Stamina. Instead, Heroes use the lock-on light or heavy attacks to kill Soldiers (as if you were fighting a Hero).

Story Mode however, still has the old Soldiers and Captains, so the upgrade is Multiplayer-only.

Note: Nearly all of these pictures were taken before Marching Fire's Visual Update.

Daubeny's Milita Colors: Cyan, White, Yellow (Exotic)

A small group of mercenaries led by Hervis Daubeny, they reside in Westhold Castle. After the Blackstones left Westhold in ruins, Daubeny fled south, where he now presides over a arena in Ashfeld. Their symbol is that of a yellow lion.

Iron Legion Colors: Green, Yellow, Black (Iron Legion)

One of the most largest Legions, the Iron Legion is the main faction of the Knights besides the Blackstones. Their numbers signifcantly decreased due to Viking attacks, and they were nearly wiped out by Apollyon's rise to power, but gradually recovered by the efforts of the Lord Warden who is their leader. They joined the other two factions in the Battle of the Shard. Their symbol is a black sword thrusted downwards into the ground, roots spreading from the blade.

Blackstone Legion Colors: Yellow-Orange, Black, White (Blackstone Legion and Blackstone Elite)

Named after the "black glass" Obsidian, the Blackstone Legion is the main antagonist (and protaganist) in Story Mode. Once one of the sub-legions, they grew into a powerful force when Apollyon took over as the Eighth Warlord, they established themselves over all three factions, crushing any opposition. Apollyon's goal is to cause the three major factions to wage war against one another, and ultilizes the Legion for this purpose. Their fortress was the gigantic castle known as The Shard. Their symbol; a sword facing downards with a skull on one side, and a knight helmet on the other.

Crows Colors: White, Blue, White (Not listed, Gale, Spirits, or Viking Defense)

The Crows is one of the largest viking clans before Apollyon brought them to ruin, they served as the uniting clan for most of the Vikings and held a food storage called Svengard. One of the leaders, Warlord Jarl Gudmundr was in charge of said food storage, he was known to command a pack of wolves to assist him in battle. After the Crows disbanded due to the Blackstones burning most of their food and leaving little left, which caused them to turn on each other, their numbers and power dwindled. Their symbol is a blue crow oustreching its wings.

Crows Archer

Ragnar's Crows Colors: White, Blue, Dark Red (Siv's Raiders)

After Apollyon ravaged the Vikings, the Crows spilt into seperate gangs which began ransacking each other for food. One of these groups, was led by the criminal Ragnar, who resided himself in the village of Gron, feasting on the food they pillaged. He was eventually killed by The Raider for treason against the Vikings. The rest of his gang was absorbed into the Warborn. (I don't know what their symbol is cause the mission title blocks it)

Ragnar's Crows Soldier

Ragnar's Crows Archer

Ragnar's Crows Shield Captain

Siv's Raiders Colors: White, Blue, Dark Red (Siv's Raiders)

Siv's Raiders were a brutal gang of Vikings who were one of the splinter groups from the Crows. They resided in Fort Skallborg in the mountains. Their leader, Siv the Ruthless, mounted the heads of those they killed on pikes and kept any Vikings not part of the gang in cages and the fort's prison. Eventually, The Raider bested Siv, and integrated her Raiders into the Warborn. (Don't know their symbol cause its blurry)

Siv's Soldier

Siv's Captain

Warborn Colors: White, Light-Green, Black (Not listed, Rangers comes close.)

The Warborn are the main Viking faction in the Story Mode, they rose to power after the Crows fell by the Blackstone army. The Raider led the Warborn to unite the splinter Viking groups, after that, he led a massive fleet of ships to raid the Imperial Palace of the Samurai. They later met up with the other two factions in the Battle of the Shard. The Warborn clan is led by Jarl Stigandr. Their symbol is a black bird skull (Bird skull 2 symbol).

Fujiwara Colors: Blue, White, Red (Fujiwara)

Fujiwara is the current leading Samurai clan led by Empress Ayu, the clan was orignally based in Koto Village, but after the fall of the Imperial forces, the defeat of General Tozen, and the assassination of the Emperor. Ayu and her friends; Momiji and Okuma, freed The Orochi, who set out to unite the fractured Empire. This led to Fujiwara becoming the largest Samurai clan and main army of the Empire, they were the main force that led the assault during The Battle of the Shard. Their symbol is a red circle with two black koi circling each other

Imperials Colors: Black, Red, White (War-Torn)

While the name of the clan that led the Dawn Empire before Fujiwara is unknown, they must have led for many years to establish such a large presence throughout the Myre. Led by a Emperor and many notable military leaders such as General Tozen and Commander Fujikiyo, the Imperials were a force to be reckoned with. However, they lost to the Warborn clan and The Raider, who defeated their army and pillaged the Imperial Palace. Their symbol is a white Torii.

Ranja's Samurai Colors: Red, White, Yellow (Not listed, Red Wine comes close)

Ranja's group is one of the three clans that Ayu has to defeat in "Thinning the Herd". Like the other Daimyo exiles, Ranja is a war criminal, but shes also pious, claiming she has "been chosen" to lead the Samurai. You even find her praying at a shrine to a god. Their symbol is three golden flowers in hexagons

Ranja's Soldier

Ranja's Captain

Kizan's Samurai Colors: Black, Yellow, White (Grove)

Kizan's group is one of the three groups Ayu has to defeat in "Thinning the Herd". Like the other Daimyo exiles, Kizan is a war criminal. Ayu describes him as being greedy, and that he would take more than he would give to his people. Their symbol is a black moon

Kizan's Soldier

Kizan's Archer

Kizan's Captain

Dokuja's Samurai Colors: Black, White, Red (Jester's Cloth)

Dokuja's group is one of the three clans that Ayu has to defeat in "Thinning the Herd". Like the other Daimyo, Dokuja is a war criminal. He is cowardly, and will send his minions to deal with Ayu while he flees, eventually he will be caught in a corner, and will attempt to overwhelm the player with his soldiers. He also continually tries to persuade Ayu to join him. Their symbol is a black Oni.

Dokuja's Soldier

Dokuja's Captain

Seijuro's Army Colors: Neon Green, Black, White (Watch)

After Apollyon's forces disposed of the Emperor, she assigned Seijuro as the new ruler, while casting the rest of the Daimyos into exile to fight amongst themselves, hoping to embroil the Myre in a long and bloody civil war. While Seijuro swore to kill Apollyon, he decided to deal with the other Daimyo first, however, Ayu brought a quick end to the eminent war by sending The Orochi to sneak into the palace and open its gates. After fighting their way to the palace, The Orochi challenged Seijuro to a duel and defeated him. Rather than killing him however, he assigned Seijuro as a general of the Fuijwara army.

All types of multiplayer soldiers appear in Dominion, Skirmish, and Breach. All types of officers only appear in Breach and Skirmish, Shield officers appear only in Skirmish. Archers appear in Breach and some opening cutscences for Dominion. Pikemen appear exclusively in Breach, they have more health, range, and damage than their Dominion counterparts.

The types of soldiers you get depend on the territory your fighting in. Example: Fighting in territory between Knights and Samurai will spawn Knight and Samurai soldiers.

They come in two colors; orange and blue. Depending on who controls the map (look at the flags, shields, and banners) will dictate which soldiers will appear on the map's defending side, while the attacking side will be whatever faction is attacking that territory. Example: Samurai flags and accessories will mean Samurai soldiers will be on the defending side.

This section (and any additional ones) will cover most of the Event soldiers, these soldiers are only seen in special events that are held in the game, such as March of the Underworld. Their appearance is changed to fit the theme of the event. Because of my laziness, I missed a few of the Event soldiers, but I will still include a description for them. (Credit to https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198856160519 for providing the Apollyon soldier and Frostwind soldier.)

Apollyon SoldiersLiving by Apollyon's rule of "wolves over sheep", these soldiers color their armor black in the warlord's honor. They appeared in the "Apollyon's Legacy" event, which came along Season Five: Age of Wolves.

Frostwind SoldiersFrostbitten and near freezing, these soldiers are still motivated by a burning hatred for their enemies. They were introduced in the "Frostwind Festivial" event, which was around Christmas. These soldiers were covered in a layer of frost, with icicles all over them.

Skeleton SoldiersThese undead soldiers have risen from the mass graves of the Faction War, but apparently still retain their will to keep fighting each other. Introduced in the "March of the Underworld" event, these skellies wear an assortment of hats and scarves depending on their faction. Unlike other events, March of the Underworld also changes Archers, but not Officers.

Champion SoldiersAmong the three warring factions stand three legendary champions, Belval the Medusa, Heidrek the Warthog, and Musashi the Crane. To honor these heroes, these soldiers have decorated themselves in armor similar to those of the champions. They were introduced in the "Rite of Champions" event, which came alongside Season Six: Hero's March.

I was only able to get the Defender's soldiers.

Assassins and TemplarsThe battle between Assassins and Templars have existed since the first recordings of human history. Order and Control against Agnosticism, this ages old conflict has found its way into the world of For Honor due to a glitch in the Animus. These soldiers appeared in the "For the Creed" event, with appropiate Assassin and Templar markings and armor. Unlike in the other events, there is no Templar version of the Viking or Samurai soldiers, as there is no Assassin version of the Knights.

Scorched SoldiersWhen Mt. Ignis erupted in the midst of the Faction War, it sent everyone into a panic. Thousands of people died due to fire and smoke, hundreds of homes and villages were burned, and the natural disasters that followed ravaged the region. It was almost as bad as The Cataclysm that destroyed the world all those years ago. Despite this inferno, the Faction War raged on, soot-covered soldiers fighting amongst the fiery landscape. These soldiers were introduced in the "Reigning Inferno Event" on Aug 16-30, 2018.

Credit goes to https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198856160519 for these pictures.

Black Prior's RiposteDuring Season 5, Campaign 3 of the For Honor Faction War, the Knights conquered the harbor of Eitrivanen, but it was Vortiger and his Black Priors that truly claimed the territory that day. The Knight Commander Badefol was fighting a two-pronged attack from Jarl Jafnhar of the Vikings and Daimyo Daimon. His forces spread thin and weary, all seemed lost.

But then the black ships of Vortiger's forces arrived, corpses of Vikings, Samurai, even Knights hanging from them. With brutal efficiency they slaughtered everyone who opposed them, be it ally or foe. Badefol tried to bring Vortiger to justice for his crimes, but he too was added to the corpse pile. These soldiers were introduced in the "Black Prior's Riposte" Event of Year 3.

Rabbids (April Fools)Hailing from the Raving Rabbids series, the army of deranged bunnies have invaded the For Honor universe through their modified time-traveling washing machine! Introduced as a April Fools joke in 2019, all soldiers (except archers and officers) were replaced by Rabbids. They act the same as regular soldiers, but upon death, their body will fade into a cooked turkey instead of a ruined corpse.

They ultilize plungers (or toilet brushes if their pikemen) alongside smaller versions of the shields. Also in the intro cutscenes, human soldiers wearing Rabbid hats appear, this is due to the Rabbids' model not being suitable for the animations performed in those scenes.

Horkos CultA organization formed after the fall of the Blackstone Legion by individuals who shared Apollyon's beliefs of War. They quietly grew their numbers by converting faction leaders on all sides to their cause, amassing their army to strike at the opportune moment.

That moment came during the Heathmoor Festival, during the Truce of Wyverndale. Hidden among the celebrating crowd, the Horkos Cult, led by the Warmonger and leader Astrea, laid waste to the castle and its inhabitants. Catching them completely off guard, the defenders stood no chance as they were overwhelmed by the Horkos Corruption.

Showing their true colors, saboteurs from all factions rose up to signal the Horkos armies, spreading the Corruption far and wide. They attack any faction, as they represent pure unrestrained War. (No Archer variants)
