Why Encased Has An Issue With Steamcloud Saves Between Deck And PC
The reason that steam cloud saves won't work upon installing Encased to your deck is because the game defaults to its linux version on Steamdeck whereas if you were to install it on a Windows PC it would use the Windows build.
There is no cross-compatibility for saves between the two formats, hence the initial unavailability of your saves between platforms
(I'm dumb and not good at computer stuff but this is how it was explained to me)
Choose Proton Codec
To make sure this doesn't happen you have to tweak the proton compatibility settings for Encased on your Steamdeck. To make this change follow these steps:
1. Select Encased in your Steamdeck library
2. Click the settings symbol
3. Select 'properties'
4. Select 'compatibility'
5. Choose the Proton version you wish to use (so far any should work, I think...)
6. Let the game update, now your steamcloud saves should work
NOTE: Changing the compatibility will ERASE any existing saves you may have started on Steamdeck before making this change. I hope you see this guide before getting 10 hours in!
Additionally, when booting the game for the first time after enabling proton, Encased will ask you to make a new profile. This may be confusing because the original profile you started on PC (if you did so) will not be selected by default. Just go to Encased's 'profile' menu and your original profile, and saves will become available.
