STORY LINE :

In the distant future, the crew of the commercial spaceship Nostromo are on their way home when they pick up a distress call from a distant moon. The crew are under obligation to investigate and the spaceship descends on the moon afterwards. After a rough landing, three crew members leave the spaceship to explore the area on the moon. At the same time as they discover a hive colony of some unknown creature, the ship's computer deciphers the message to be a warning, not a distress call. When one of the eggs is disturbed, the crew realizes that they are not alone on the spaceship and they must deal with the consequences.

TRIVIA :

It was conceptual artist Ron Cobb who came up with the idea that the Alien should bleed acid. This came about when Dan O'Bannon ran into a wall with the screenplay in how to handle the last half of the movie. He needed a good reason for why the crew members don't just shoot the thing and kill it but still not make it an indestructible monster that can't be killed. The acid blood was the idea that solved this problem.

To get Jones the cat to react fearfully to the descending Alien, a German Shepherd was placed in front of him with a screen between the two, so the cat wouldn't see it at first. The screen was then suddenly removed to make Jones stop advancing and start hissing.

The facehugger was planned to be painted green, but Dan O'Bannon, seeing the unpainted facehugger on-set, and noting how inventive its Caucasian flesh tone colour was, argued for it to remain as is.

The dead facehugger that Ash autopsies was made using fresh shellfish, four oysters, and a sheep kidney to re-create the internal organs. Filming had to be done quickly because the organic material would go bad very fast under the studio lights.

In H.R. Giger's original illustrations that inspired the look of the Alien, the creature had eyes. For the movie, Giger insisted that the creature have no eyes, thus giving the bleak appearance of a cold and emotionless beast that hunts by smell.

Dan O'Bannon's original draft title was "Star Beast", but he was never happy with this. It was only after re-reading his script that he noted how many times the word "alien" appeared, and realized that it was a perfect title. It works as a noun and an adjective, and it had never been used before.

Copywriter Barbara Gips came up with the famed tagline: "In space, no one can hear you scream."

The original cut of this movie ran three hours and twelve minutes.

Sir Ridley Scott's original cut was a lot bloodier, but because of the negative reactions of test audiences, and the possibility of an "X" rating, scenes with violence and gore were cut down.

For the scene in which the facehugger attacks, the egg was upside down above the camera, and the operator thrust it down toward the lens like a hand puppet.

In the chest bursting scene, Veronica Cartwright (Lambert) screams when blood splatters on her. Her screaming and horrified reaction were genuine, just as the shocked responses of the other cast members.

The reason why the interior of the alien ship looked like bones is that artist H.R. Giger wanted his paintings to look like an abattoir of cattle bones.

STORY LINE :

57 years after Ellen Ripley had a close encounter with the reptilian alien creature from the first movie, she is called back, this time, to help a group of highly trained colonial marines fight off against the sinister extraterrestrials. But this time, the aliens have taken over a space colony on the moon LV-426. When the colonial marines are called upon to search the deserted space colony, they later find out that they are up against more than what they bargained for. Using specially modified machine guns and enough firepower, it's either fight or die as the space marines battle against the aliens. As the Marines do their best to defend themselves, Ripley must attempt to protect a young girl who is the sole survivor of the nearly wiped out space colony.

TRIVIA :

Bill Paxton continuously apologized to Carrie Henn throughout filming every time Hudson had to swear in front of her. Carrie later admitted that she didn't mind, mainly because she really didn't know what any of the words meant.

Bishop states that he can't harm a human. This is why he places his hand on top of Hudson's during the knife trick. This could be a reference to the Laws of Robotics by Isaac Asimov.

When Bishop is "doing the thing with knife" the scene is sped up to give the impression that Bishop is lightning fast. Apone can be seen rocking his head back and forth, also at a ridiculous speed.

In both the standard and special edition versions, the fifteen minute countdown at the end of the film is indeed fifteen minutes.

Sigourney Weaver's Best Actress Academy Award nomination for this movie was the first ever for an actress in a role in an action and sci-fi movie.

According to Bill Paxton, he improvised many of his lines including "Game over, man! Game over!" His famous line "We're on an express elevator to hell, going down!" was probably improvised as well, as it doesn't appear in the shooting script.

The grappling gun Ripley used at the end of Alien (1979) is briefly visible in the opening scenes, while the escape pod door is being cut open - still stuck at the bottom of the escape pod door, where the gun jammed 57 years earlier.

When they have landed and deployed in the troop carrier, Apone tells the Marines they have 10 seconds until they arrive. If you count from here until the first Marine jumps out of the carrier and his boots hit the ground, it really is ten seconds.

The full-size queen puppet was actually too big to fit into the elevator. For the shot where she is seen there, her tail was removed, and yet the back of the elevator still had to be opened to accommodate the prop; smoke effects, dark lighting, and a black curtain at the back obscure this.

The alien screams are Baboon shrieks altered in post.

One of the alien eggs used in the film is now exhibited in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

The armored personnel carrier (APC) is a modified tow-truck that British Airways used for towing airplanes around at Heathrow. The only trouble was that the truck they purchased weighed 75 tons. By stripping out most of the lead used in its construction, they were able to remove about 35 tons. It was still so heavy that the construction team had to reinforce several floors to carry the vehicle's weight.

STORY LINE :

Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is the only survivor when she crash lands on Fiorina 161, a bleak wasteland inhabited by former inmates of the planet's maximum security prison. Once again, Ripley must face skepticism and the alien as it hunts down the prisoners and guards. Without weapons or modern technology of any kind, Ripley leads the men into battle against the terrifying creature.

TRIVIA :

This film is believed to be set just days or weeks after the events in Aliens (1986), in 2179.

While off set, Sigourney Weaver had to wear a wig as her then two-year-old daughter Charlotte didn't like to see her mother bald.

Making the convicts bald-headed due to a lice problem was David Fincher's idea. When he told Sigourney Weaver this during their first meeting, she immediately thought it was a great and bold idea. When Fincher asked how she felt about shaving her head for the role, she jokingly replied "It's fine with me only as long as I get more money!"

Much more of the autopsy scene was filmed than ended up in the final film. A rough cut of the scene originally contained so much gore, that it even made crew members who had worked on it sick to their stomach.

Although the Alien that hatched from the dog was a rod puppet, early filmed tests used an actual dog in an alien costume. The dog was a whippet owned by one of the special effects people, which was used to be dressed up in a suit and muzzle. However, the special effects team thought the dog's movements made the Alien look rather comical, so the idea was scrapped in favor of the puppet.

Charles S. Dutton is a real life former convict who cleaned himself up before getting into acting.

(at around 10 mins) Dr. Clemens' line about Fury-161 being one of 'Weyland-Yutani's backwater prison planets.' was the first time the name Weyland-Yutani was spoken out loud. It had appeared on computer screens and props in the previous two films, Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), but characters always referred to it as 'The Company' in dialogue.

The first film in the franchise where they show the alien (xenomorph) eating their victims.

Hoping to give the destroyed Bishop a more complex look that could not be done by simple make-up, the final product was done entirely through animatronics, while a playback of Lance Henriksen's voice played to guide Sigourney Weaver.

This is the only film in the Alien Quadrilogy that does not feature an android character unique to that film. The only android that appears is Bishop (in a severely damaged state), and he had previously appeared in Aliens (1986).

This is the only film in the Alien franchise that is actually a "numbered" sequel. Even so, the number in the title isn't an normal integer, but in superscript, which technically means 'to the third power.'

In the original drafts of the script there was no Ripley.

ALIEN - RESURRECTION (1997)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15g12dGxWX4

STORY LINE :

The saga continues 200 years after Ripley sacrificed herself for the sake of humanity. Her erstwhile employers long gone, this time it is the military that resurrects the one-woman killing machine through genetic cloning to extract the alien from within her, but during the process her DNA is fused with the queen and then the aliens escape. Now Ripley must decide where her allegiance lies.

TRIVIA :

The film takes place in 2379.

Actor Ron Perlman nearly drowned while filming the underwater sequence. At one point, when trying to surface, he hit his head on a sprinkler in the ceiling, knocking him out cold. He was rescued by nearby film crew members.

The opening shot of Ripley cloned, albeit as a young girl, was based on photographs which Sigourney Weaver had given the special effects crew of herself as a child.

When pre-production was underway, the original 'Alien Queen' could not be located and the molds that were used to build the original were damaged beyond usefulness. Fortunately, the original life-size puppet was located... in the personal collection of an avid Alien (1979) fan.

Although it appears that the cast spend most of the time wandering up and down endless spaceship corridors, in reality there were only two built for the film.

All of the spaceships in the film were miniatures, as visual effects supervisors believed CGI was not effective enough to create realistic spaceships.

The Newborn's skull was made of plaster so it could be sucked out of the window into space. Cast only at 1/8-1/4" thick, it was scored into various pieces. Each piece was individually attached to a wire, so when struck against the window and cracked, each fragment could be pulled out one-by-one.

This is the only Alien movie not to be shot in the United Kingdom. One of the reasons for this was that co-producer Sigourney Weaver didn't want to travel.

In her initial scenes with the Newborn, Sigourney Weaver makes a point of not looking in its eyes. This was a lesson learned from when she made Gorillas in the Mist (1988) in not making initial eye contact with a potentially dangerous animal.

Winona Ryder was a big fan of Alien (1979) and jumped at the chance of appearing alongside her idol, Sigourney Weaver, for that reason.

Originally, the fourth alien movie was to be a rendition of the popular comic Aliens Vs. Predator, which combined the Alien creatures with Predator (1987) since 1991. It took another 7 years before Alien vs. Predator (2004) saw the light.

The alien eggs were made to appear more vivid and pulsating at the request of director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. After watching Alien (1979), he thought the eggs were too static.

Prometheus (2012)

STORY LINE :

Following a faint trail of clues, the accomplished archaeologist, Doctor Elizabeth Shaw, and her partner, Charlie Holloway, along with a seventeen-man crew, embark on an ambitious, deep-space scientific expedition. Aboard the revolutionary space-exploration starship, USCSS Prometheus, the team sets foot on the rocky terrain of the desolate exomoon, LV-223, in 2093, to investigate the existence of the superior extraterrestrial species known as the "Engineers". But, there, inside a mysterious, complex structure of cavernous dark chambers and an intricate underground system of tunnels, more enigmas await. Now, a terrifying discovery threatens not only the outcome of the bold outer-space mission but also the very future of humankind. Is the world prepared for the answers to the fundamental questions of human existence?

TRIVIA :

The film takes place in 2089 and 2093. The bulk of the movie takes place 29 years before Alien (1979).

Sir Ridley Scott named the film "Prometheus", seeing the name aptly fit the film's themes: "It's the story of creation; the gods and the man who stood against them." In Greek mythology, the Titan Prometheus was an immortal servant of the gods, who stole and gave to mankind the gift of God fire, an immeasurable benefit that changed the human race forever (for better and worse). It made mankind dangerous to the gods.

To prepare for his role as the android David, Michael Fassbender watched Blade Runner (1982) (another Sir Ridley Scott film), The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) (for David Bowie's androgynous performance), The Servant (1963) and Lawrence of Arabia (1962) (mentioned by Peter Weyland). Fassbender also studied Olympic diver Greg Louganis, drawing inspiration for David's walk from Louganis' physicality.

Charlize Theron was originally cast as Elizabeth Shaw, but had to decline the role due to scheduling conflicts. Later, another change in schedule freed Theron to do the film, thus allowing her to take the role of Meredith Vickers, as Noomi Rapace had already taken the role of Shaw.

The movements of the black goo consumed by the Engineer were based on the movements of starlings. To find a method of depicting the Engineer's DNA destruction, the visual effects experts carved vein-like structures from silicone and pumped black ink and oils into them, and then filmed the changes occurring over an extended period of time.

The androids' names in the Alien films follow an alphabetical pattern: in Alien (1979) it's Ash, in Aliens (1986) and Alien³ (1992) it's Bishop, in Alien: Resurrection (1997) it's Call and in this film it's David.

Sir Ridley Scott described the Engineers as "tall, elegant dark angels." Some early designs made them look more elephant-like to conform with the appearance of the dead Space Jockey in Alien (1979), but it was later decided that this look would be their exoskeleton suits, with the Engineers inside looking more humanoid. Concept designers Neville Page and Carlos Huante cite classical statues of Greco-Roman gods, the works of J.W. Turner (a painter whose trademark was brightness) and William Blake (a painter who employed religious symbolism), the Statue of Liberty, Michaelangelo's David, and Elvis Presley as visual influences for the design of the Engineers.

Ann Scibelli created the sound of glistening ice forming on the stone cylinders by applying Pop Rocks (carbonated candy) to materials like wet metal and stone and then spraying the materials with water to produce the "popping, cracking" sound.

While Sir Ridley Scott suggested that the cast could have slept and effectively "lived" on the Prometheus interior set during initial filming, this didn't happen due to health and safety precautions.

The scene where Vickers refuses to allow the infected crew member on board is almost exactly like the scene in Alien (1979), of which this is a prequel, where Ripley refuses to allow the crew to bring the infected Kane on-board, including some of the same dialogue.

The make-up process to age Guy Pearce took five hours to apply and an hour to remove it.

The Hammerpede's design was inspired by translucent sea creatures with visible arteries/veins/organs and cobras.

ALIEN - COVENANT (2017)

More Info : ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2316204/?ref_=ttls_li_tt )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svnAD0TApb8

STORYLINE :

In 2104, almost eleven years after the disastrous expedition to the distant moon, LV-223, in Prometheus (2012), the deep-space colonisation vessel, USCSS Covenant, is on course for the remote planet, Origae-6, with more than 2,000 colonists in cryogenic hibernation to build a new world. Instead, a rogue transmission entices the crew to a nearby habitable planet which resembles Earth. As a result, the unsuspecting crewmembers of the Covenant will have to cope with biological foes beyond human comprehension. Now, what started as a peaceful exploratory mission, will soon turn into a desperate rescue operation in uncharted space. Is there an escape from the treacherous, mysterious planet?

TRIVIA :

Alien Covenant begins on December 5th, 2104, and ends a few weeks later in 2105. This is 17 years prior to Alien (1979), which takes place in 2122.

Unlike David, Walter speaks with an American accent. While this was no doubt done in the film to help distinguish the two characters for the audience, in-universe it could possibly be explained by the two synthetics different origins-David was a unique model created personally by Peter Weyland (who was British) as a son and successor, whereas Walter is a mass-produced commercial model.

The Neomorph's physiology and body structure was inspired by the real-world bodily autonomy of the Goblin Shark. Its teeth are able to come forward when attacking prey to do more damage by pointing directly out allowing for a better grip.

Upon emergence, the Neomorph greatly resembles a Runner chestburster, having limbs and moving quadrupedally. It becomes more humanoid and bipedal upon maturity.

This was the first 'Alien' film to be released after the death of H.R. Giger, designer of the original Xenomorph. He was briefly involved in Prometheus (2012) but died from fall-related injuries in 2014.

Ridley Scott originally considered the derelict ship in Alien to have been a type of bomber. Prometheus then suggested that to have been the purpose with the Engineers' ships. Covenant has now fully presented this ship carrying out that very function by David on the Engineers' own homeworld.

The Xenomorphs design was based on that of an ecorche (sculpture of a human figure with the skin removed to display the musculature),while its movements were based on those of a praying mantis and a baboon.

David is named for Michaelangelo's sculpture of the same name. He also has the flayed corpse of an Engineer in his laboratory, posed in the same manner as the statue.

David's garden is an exact recreation of the Arnold Böcklin painting The Isle of the Dead (which H. R. Giger also painted a version of in his biomechanical style).

Like Ash in Alien, David calls the creatures the "perfect organism".

The Planet 4 Xenomorph has a human skull underneath its smooth dome, something the original Xenomorph from Alien (1979) also featured.

Each "Alien" film features a different type of group interacting with the Xenomorphs-- commercial transport operators in Alien (1979), the military in Aliens (1986), prisoners in Alien³ (1992), smugglers in Alien: Resurrection (1997) and Research scientists in Prometheus (2012). While the main characters in this film are scientists, they are also colonists.
