Collecting A Virus Sample

Bonus Reward Table
Virus Samples are a significant element in World War Z. These specialized containers securely hold a highly hazardous and infectious substance within a large glass canister. While transporting these perilous vials to the end of a chapter carries its risks, it also promises rewards.
In Co-op Campaign episodes, you'll find these containers in specific locations throughout each chapter.

When you come across a Virus Sample in World War Z, you can pick it up by approaching it and interacting with the button prompt that appears. Once collected, the Virus Sample will be attached to your survivor's backpack for the remainder of the chapter. Keep in mind that you can carry a maximum of three samples, and in most chapters, you'll find up to two Virus Samples.
It's important to note that once you've collected a Virus Sample, you cannot discard it or give it to another player. You'll bear the responsibility for your decision throughout the chapter, and it may have consequences down the line.
Carrying a Virus Sample comes with significant risks. Once picked up, you become vulnerable to infection.
Physical damage, like gunshots, explosions, or zombie attacks, can harm the Virus Sample container. However, fire or gas attacks, such as those from Gasbags, won't affect it.
You can get infected just before or during incapacitation, especially when pinned by special zombies. Friendly fire can also break the container, causing infection while you're down.
The container visually deteriorates as it takes damage, with two stages of degradation. After the first, frequent damage can lead to infection. At the second stage, infection risk significantly increases, and you have only 12 seconds to clean the sample leak.
Another consequence of infection is an increased risk of subsequent infections. Different difficulties have different breaking points.
Regardless of the container's condition, your end-of-chapter bonuses remain unaffected. Success means delivering the sample to the end, regardless of accidents.
If you look at the container in the game, you can see it in more detail. When it is damaged, a green smoke will appear around the container.
is a special zombie with a unique connection to Virus Samples. When defeated correctly, he drops an additional Virus Sample.
To collect this extra sample, aim for areas like his legs to disable him, then finish him with a melee attack. This is the only way to obtain a third sample outside of the two randomly spawned in each chapter.
Teams that end a game with all three samples receive even greater rewards, making up for missed or lost samples. However, be aware that only one Bomber can drop an extra sample in a chapter. Subsequent Bombers won't yield more samples, even if the carrier dies.
