Thorgrim - Dwarf Quarreler, starting 30 turn guide

Thorgrim - Dwarf Quarreler, starting 30 turn guide

Quick Start Outline

Dwarfs have a lot of units- but a good Quarreler stack can dominate the early game and give you a great start. This fast start guide includes conquering Skarsnik and building a Quarreler stack for Thorgrim.

Choose Thorgrim Grudgebearer as your starting Lord and pick your campaign difficulty and End Times scenarios.

I chose Legendary, Ironman mode, and End Times turned off for the creation of this guide. I'm still not an expert.

If you are just starting, choose Normal or Hard Difficulty, or a higher one if you want more of a challenge.

Turn 1 - Move your Engineer into your army and right-click to move and attack the orc army near you. Try to win with as few casualties as possible by utilizing your Gyrobomber and Quarrelers to destroy the orcs before they reach your front line of Dwarf Warriors.

Attack the orcs in The Pillars of Grundi. Buy two Miners with Blasting Charges.

Upgrade any buildings you think need it. Goal is Mustering Hall to level 2.

Turn 2 - Finish off the orcs in Mount Squighorn , occupy and buy Dwarf Warriors.

Turn 3+

Get your Mustering Hall ( Barracks ) at Karaz-A-Karak up to level 2 in order to buy Quarrelers.

Keep buying units until you have a full stack, buy a Thane Hero if you can, and wait for a good time to hopefully attack Skarsnik and his faction the Crooked Moon orcs.

Turn 5+

Defend against the last of the Bloody Hand orcs, and get ready for a war with Skarsnik.

Goal: Conquer all of The Silver road province and begin a war with Crooken Moon / Skarsnik

Goal: Defeat Skarsnik and the Crooked Moon faction to gain the Ambusher trait and Mount Gunbad.

Be hesitant to invest too much in Mount Squiqhorn - it may fall or orcs or Skaven later.

You can trade nearly your whole army to defeat Skarsnik, either in a manual battle or autoresolve battle. Buying Quarrelers soon- so you don't need your Dwarf Warriors or Miners.

Skarsnik may attack with two of his armies - but only be able to use one because his Lightning Strike ability will be on. This can make him lose battles.

For manual battles:

His army may have lots of Nasty Skulkers which can use Stalk to move around the battlefield without you seeing them.

His army may have Calvary so you need to watch your flanks.

A main strategy for the Dwarfs is to position your Archer units in a checkerboard formation- leaving spaces to shoot between units.

Use Thorgrim, Thane heroes, and smaller formations of meele units to block the enemy front line.

Once you defeat him you will gain the a lord Trait which will gives you +20% to ambush sucess- meaning that your Quarreler army will now have the ability to do ambushes more often !

Work toward getting more Quarrelers and taking all of the Deadrock Gap province. You want an army that is Thorgrim, Heroes, Quarrelers and 1 Gyrobomber.

Mount Gunbad has Brightstone Mine AND a Gold mine- making it one of the richest Regions in the game.

Quarreler Build

Goal: Build an army of nearly all Quarrelers to dominate the early game and set yourself up for whatever type of Dawi campaign you want .

Build your Mustering Hall up to level 2 and start recruiting Quarrelers. If you have enough money and territory- you may choose to hire a second lord to do this if your Thorgrim army is busy fighting.

Thorgrim Grudgebearer leveling:

Choose Inspiring Presence and then Thunderer x3 to buff your Quarrelers.

Also recommened is Grudge Against the Foul, Obstinacy ( a skill far to the right on the top row )

and High King .

Technology: Marching Songs, Gather the Throngs, Vanguard Proficiency, and Masterwork Crossbows.

These will help buff your quarrelers.

In siege battles, you can try to use all your Quarrelers ammo up on shooting the enemy over the walls, then move them into melee. This can help win some tough early battles.

Stack your army with only Thorgrim, Thane, Engineer, Runesmith (if one spawns- no need to build an early building for it), 15 Quarrelers and 1 Gyrobomber.

This should set you up with a great early game army.

Past The Early Game And Final Notes

Gyrobombers are a new unit as of writing this guide and are very powerful.

You can use this unit to fly over the enemy and drop 10 big bombs on them, then return to your line and decimate units. Keep them out of range of enemy archers or other shooting units.

Beware of the Skaven to your south and any Skaven anywhere- they will betray you and attack.

An Alliance with the noble Dawi Neighbors of Barak Varr is a good Diplomat move. Hold off any other early alliances until you establish yourself some.

Thanks for checking out this guide and I hope it gives you a good starting army and some Dawi victories.

Sincerely,

ElrosX
