Top 10 Tips

Introduction

Hi, so you are reasonably new at Realm of the Mad God? (Rotmg for short)

This guide is a few simple tips, that MUST be followed when starting, if you do all of these, you should become a better player very quickly.

Of course if you don't follow these tips, you, like most, will find yourself stuck in a constant death streak and trust me, it's hard to see any hope when you get in one.

Hopefully this will help you and improve your playing style!

*Update: will try to keep a new section of the best tips from comments*

Terms & Definitions

Below I have listed a short list of terms you will her used during this guide and in game. I have added short definitions which should help when you come across a term you haven't seen/don't understand.

Nexus:

subterms: 'Nexusing'

The 'Nexus' is the safe point in the game in which all the other players can access. You arrive here each time you log onto realm.

Realm:

Realms are found in the nexus, they look like small caves that each have a name and a number/85 on below them. Entering one of these will get you onto the beach, and direct you to quests. Kill or be killed.

God-Lands:

aka: 'glands'

The god-lands is an area in each realm (there maybe multiple godlands in each realm) in which there are "gods". Gods are the strongest standard enemies you can find in realms. The god-lands can be reconised due to the ground, a dark gray rocky looking terrain which may have lava. If you see a large group of level 20s on your map, it is safe to assume they are in the god-lands. (Or at an event).

Events:

Events are larger enemies that spawn in the realm and are announced in chat by 'Oryx the mad god'. Events are more challenging enemies for higher skilled players and often drop pots or higher teired items including unteired if lucky. Some examples of events are: 'Cube god', 'Skull shrine', 'lord of the lost lands', 'hermit god' and 'sphinx'. It is good to learn their patterns but newer players are advised to stay away as even higher experienced players often die to these.

Pots:

subterms: 'Potting'

"Pots" are items that can be consumed. They are usually found in the god-lands (see below) When consumed the "pot" increases the stat specific to it by 1. This on the larger scale, lets you pump up your stats to a notable difference.

I am looking to expand this section. It is not yet completed. There is a short list that should get you on your way though.

The Top 10 Tips!

These tips are in no particular order and idealy should all be followed when playing.

10. Nexus early; it is hard when you are playing to say "I'm not gonna die" this, often leads to a painful death. It is fine on a fresh character with no gear, but when you start getting attached it is horrible to lose and nothing is worth more than your character. It is also suggested to change your nexus hotkey to something closer by. Mine for example is "E" (Good point raised in the comments below!).

I cannot stress this one enough, I have recently lost 2 characters in which I have invested months on, hundreds of hours. Both would still be around if I wasn't so foolish and cocky.

9. Stats > Equips; Want that AMAZING sword? Sorry buddy but you are unmaxed. This is when you have a new character and haven't invested into drinking the pots you can find by killing gods. Potting up your character is essiential for long term use. And should always be done before equipting with an awesome loadout.

8. Patterns; You need to learn the patterns. Each enemy has only a few attacks. You need to learn each of their attacks well enough to have the dodging done subconsiously. This will allow you to stay in the god lands for long periods of time without nexusing, which will earn better loot.

7. End Game content; The endgame content in this game includes the 'Wine Cellars' and 'Tomb of the ancients (Tombs)' Keep in mind this is built for players, with more experience, better equips and better characters than you. In most cases a few hits can knock a new player out.

6. Trading; This is more a optional thing, you at any point don't NEED to trade, but if you are concentrating on a particular class it is heapfull to focus your items as well. When purchasing make sure you have a good idea of the price. If you are unsure, ask a few friends and get a rough estimate, you don't want to waste wealth into a few starting items. Also if you make friends with a higher level player, it is best to stay away from begging and/or making offers on their high tier loot.

5. Take your time; Don't rush into something you are unsure as to whether you can handle or not. Uncertanty and trial will lead to death.

4. Vaulting; As mentioned, Maxing is better than putting high tier weapons on your player. Vault anything of high value you find, it might come in handy later or help you max via selling for stat pots.

3. Class choosing; For beginners Wizard is the starting class, this is one of the most powerful classes in the game. But it, due to it's low defense stats, is a risky one. Priest, although on the same stance on defense as wizard, has a healing ability which will easily save multiple lives including yours. The Priest is also extremely high range and can easily take off targets from afar.

2. Recovering after death; This game is unforgiving, You Will Die! But, what do you do after death? It can sometimes be hard, but there is unseen force that pulls you back in. You need to start all over again. Remember: "Maxing is essiential"

1. Enjoy the game; It's a game, in your early stages you can't be too concerened with loosing a character. Have fun, muck around, play with friends, this game is meant to be enjoyed.

More Tips (Including Comments!)

- Use realmeye for trading! https://www.realmeye.com/current-offers

- Can make spare accounts for storage space

Misc.

These are some things that make the game easier:

AutoFire Toggle: (Defaulted 'i') Fires untill you toggle off.

Off center: Best used with rotation I find, difficult to learn initially but practise in your vault will pay off and make you a pro in no time!

It basically gives you more of the top of the screen and less of the bottom, you are about 3/4s the way down. This allows you to see the shots sooner and helps you navigate rooms and around monsters.

Rotation: (defaulted 'Q' & 'E') mentioned above as an aid to off center at teh very least. Rotation, as the name implies, rotates the screen around your player, if off center this allows you to direct the extra viewing space and can help you see things you could not see before. (vault Oryx for example)

Trouble Shooting

Section contains a few answers to problems I see in chat. If you have one I'll get around to answering it in this section!

Game not loading / loading screen:

This is not your fault and happens occansionally. My only real suggestions is to restart your browser/realm, and try logging in again. If this doesn't work, try again later.

"CCleaner" has been suggest for steam users (exit game first)

Conclusion

Hope you enjoy Realm as much as I did.

Searching "rotmg" on google will get you the Wiki and forums as the 2nd result, reading these every once in a while will help you understand the game and its mechanics.

The developers are most likely newer than you, so bear with their crap.

Have fun.

xoxo

~Danny.
