Whoever made the website for edditing flags (naqct.surge.sh). I don't know who you are, but if you're reading this - THANK YOU!

Finally, this method involves save editing to cancel completion of a quest. While it's relatively safe (as you can backup/restore the original save file), use this guide it at your own risk.

Cancelling Completion Of "Emil's Determination"

BACK UP YOUR SAVE FILES. You'll find them at "C:\Users\<user>\Documents\My Games\NieR_Automata". Just copy the entire folder.

Go to https://naqct.surge.sh/ (save flag editor) and open your save file. Same directory as above. Filename: SlotData_0.dat, SlotData_1.dat or SlotData_2.dat. Pick whichever one has your latest save. You might only have one if you don't use other save slots.

Find and remove (untick the checkbox for) the following 2 flags: q900/FIN, q900_FIN. (one has underscore, the other one has slash in the name)

Click save. This will trigger a download. Place the file back into save folder.

"Emil's Determination" should no longer show up as completed.

Triggering The Quest

Go look for Emil in any chapter where the quest can be done.

Talk to him a couple of times to learn about his home.

Go to his home and steal the mask again. You can't pick it up - that's fine.

Go to Abandoned Shopping Center, where you will find Emil. You should be able to trigger the quest again do it as usual. If you don't find him there, try looking for him circling the usual routes and talk to him again.

Save before fighting (if you want to beat the quest again after getting ending Y).

Defeat the boss, but when it enters into self destruct sequence, let it self-destruct.

If you happen to kill him and prevent self-destruction, simply do not save when prompted and reload.
