Basic Information

Every single player, who at least managed to kill a few machines at the factory, used this weapon. Or at least saw it floating behind 2B. This weapon is pretty much the canonical weapon of the unit 2B and I think that a lot of people use it together with Virtuous Contract, just to "stick to the lore", or because it suits the character. And it really does.

Obtaining The Weapon

Caution: If you do not wish to be spoiled about the location of the weapon and other details, it is advised that you stop reading now.

Anyway, you have just started your brand new, fresh save. You can even smell the freshness.

You check the mail box occasionally, when you receive mail. Shortly after starting the Route A walkthrough and doing a quest or two, you will receive a message from the Commander:

After receiving the message, you will, obviously, read it out of curiosity. Even if you have already completed the game a million times, you will read it. I’ve finished the game a lot of times and I still read my messages in the new saves. So, read it. The Commander will tell you that there are some things left from the previous mission, where you, as 2B, were beating the Goliath class machine Engel. And since four more of these things appeared, you had no choice, but to make a massive explosion, using your Black Boxes.

So, how to get it: after you’ve received the mail from the Commander, a red dot named “???” will appear at the factory. Open your map and find the factory, zoom out using your scroll wheel if you need to. Then look for that dot. Remember that your fight with Engel took place on that bridge next to the factory, so look for something on the map that looks like the bridge. The weapon will be stuck into the concrete. Come and make a few screenshots with it, then grab it, as well as loot your previous body. It will have all the loot that you collected during the prologue.

Lore

So, the weapon is canonically 2B’s signature sword, right? She uses it in the cutscenes, also if you’ve watched the anime, then you know that 2B used the Virtuous weapons, such as the Virtuous Dignity (The White Spear of the Samurai Of The East). If you look at the first line of the weapon story for Virtuous Treaty, it says:

“FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH MY LOVER”

As a new player, you might think: “Well, 2B most likely has a crush on 9S, judging on things like that dialogue option “I’m fine. There is something calming about your voice, 9S.” and other stuff.” Then, you upgrade it to level two. The next weapon story line says:

“FAILED TO CONNECT WITH MY LOVER”

Nothing special again, as you might think it just refers to the fact that 2B cannot find an approach to 9S, or something like that. Then you upgrade it to level 3, exited that soon you will be able to max it out.

“FAR AWAY WENT MY LOVER”

Hmm, I am actually not sure, what this one means. Maybe this is referring to 2B being far away from 9S after he got into the Copied City, or when he was helping 2B to get out of the Abandoned Factory, after the unsuccessful attempt to get peace with the “religious” machines. And then you’re finally happy because you got the materials to upgrade the weapon to level 4.

“WITH DEATH WENT MY LOVER TO ETERNITY”

Here you grab your head with your hands and sit down, in confusion. Wait, what? No.. No way!

And then you start route C/D.. and you see the moment when 2B dies. And you finally understand it. Understand that this story belongs to 9S. And it really hits you hard. And you cry with happiness, when during ending E, 9S and 2B are salvaged and are alive.
