Mount and Blade Napoleanic Wars. Basic Weapon Guide

Introduction

Hi and thank you for choosing my guide to weaponry in Mount and Blade Napoleanic Wars. This short but sweet guide is packed with information on what class suits you. It will help you to decide what class and what weapon you should use. If you have any questions please contact me.

FIREARMS

This section is for firearms.

Infantry Musket

Mount and Blade Napoleanic Wars. Basic Weapon Guide image 5

The musket provides the perfect balance between firepower and melee. All infantry muskets are fitted with bayonets and with the reload being around 7 seconds so you'll be thankful. Many players will bayonet charge you after firing if they miss so be prepared.

Anyway back onto the musket itself. It is generally a 1 hit kill weapon but the bayonet can take more than 1 stab sometimes. It has poor accuracy at longer ranges so you won't be trickshotting with this thing. At mid range the chance is high that you will hit them and at close range you can try point blanking but most players don't stand still for too long. The reload is around 7 seconds and you can't move when loading so I recommend you find cover.

So as a summary. If your a guy who likes to take the odd potshot but isn't scared of getting their hands dirty the infantry musket is for you. Most classes have this as a basic weapon so ammunition will be plentiful, even though getting through 30 shots is rare.

Cavalry Musket

Mount and Blade Napoleanic Wars. Basic Weapon Guide image 10

Basically, an infantry musket witht the bayonet making it rather bad in melee combat. Generally used by cavalry but some infantry classes will get one like the Partizan. Perform nearly the same but has a slighlty faster load time and slighly better accuracy. Apart from that, it's just and infantry musket. The British Cavalry get a cavalry carbine which is a very short barrelled musket. It has fast reload and poor accuracy.

Rifle

The rifle is smaller than a musket but packs a larger punch and is twice as accurate. It has no bayonet so its melee capabilities are rather bad like the cavalry musket. It has a longer reload than the infantry musket, around 10 seconds. Its one of the most accurate weapons in the game and a skilled user can hit targets from a distance where their weapon is inneffective.

The disadvantage is obviosly no bayonet so you may need infantry supporting you as well. Most rifles get equipped with a bayonet sabre (sabre briquet) which is essentially a butterknife. But i'll get onto that later in the melee weapons section.

So to summarise, if you like to stay at a distance and pick your targets off then this is the gun for you.

Musketoon

Mount and Blade Napoleanic Wars. Basic Weapon Guide image 18

The musketoon is a short barreled shotgun. It has terrible, accuracy and reload as well as no bayonet making it poor in melee. Despite them bad things though it is highly effective against charging cavalry players, being as its likely to pepper them and their horse with pellets. Also, for grouped infantry. There aren't many classes that get the musketoon but the Kaidertum Osstereich's Grenzer unit can have it. Sailors and Partizans may also get a musketoon.

So to summarise, if you like charging in and having no respect for life at all or just hate cavalry, this weapons for you. Also. be careful of friendly fire if its on because it generally doesn't hit where you point it.

Pistol

Only officers and pirates can get the pistol and if you do get it, swith it out for an infantry musket. The pistol is a fast firing, close range weapon that has no melee capabilities at all hence why officers are armed with a sword to. It may not kill your target with 1 shot or even hit them beuase even at close range it has terrible accuracy. However, with its mere 5 second reload and that you can walk while loading it is a good choice.

SWORDS AND OTHER MELEE WEAPONS

read the title!

Butterknife

Yes a butterknife. Used by partizans and sailors alike this "weapon" is small, can't be used to block with an does near to no damage at all. It can hit remarkably fast however and with training you can dodge your enemies attacks. But good luck anyway because seriously it isn't that great.

NO IMAGE. YOU KNOW WHAT A BUTTERKNIFE LOOKS LIKE!

Sapper Axe

Mount and Blade Napoleanic Wars. Basic Weapon Guide image 30

The sapper does get armed with a range of tools. A hammer, which can be used as a weapon but can't be used to block with, a spade, which can also be used as a melee weapon and you can block with it, a sabre briquet, see below and a sapper axe.

I want to talk about the sapper axe. It is mainly used for destroying failed buildings but can be used as a decent melee weapon if it comes down to it. You can drop the sabre briquet to pick up a infantry musket to use the bayonet but who would want to do that when you have a freaking axe?

It does medium to high damage per hit and can be swung quite fast. Definitly use it instead of a sabre briquet.

Light Cavalry Sabre

Mount and Blade Napoleanic Wars. Basic Weapon Guide image 35

Generally only used by cavalry and the UK's rifle officer unit, the light cavalry sabre is a curvy and rather long sword. It is decently fast to use and hits hard on horseback with it being nealry 1 shot kill every time. Even on foor it is a nasty weapon to go against becase of its damage per hit. Apart from that that's all to be said really. Every faction has their own version of this sword as well.

Heavy Cavalry Sabre

Mount and Blade Napoleanic Wars. Basic Weapon Guide image 38

The light cavalry sabres big brother. This sword is a formiddable sword on and off horseback and can 1 hit you if hit right. You must block these swings becuase you can't afford to take a hit from it. It is however a rather slow weapon to swing, even on horseback. It is guaranteed to 1 hit you though if they hit on horseback and if you survive then you must have a guardian angel. Once again all factios have their own version. The one below is British (Huzzah!!)

Sabre Briquet (Sword Bayonet)

Mount and Blade Napoleanic Wars. Basic Weapon Guide image 41

Some infantry classes who have the infantry musket will also have a sword caled a sabre briquet. It is fast and handy for when someone decides to facehug you. The sappers, Artillery, infantry, riflemen are just a few who use this sword.

However, this sword is very small does little per hit. It is almost embarrasing to get killed by this thing. Howver, if your a riflemen who is cornered, this may save your life. If you have a bayonet though use that instead.

Officers Swords

All factions have different officers swords, too many to list. So heres a summary on each fations officers swords.

United Kingdom: Uses the standard officer sword. Fast, medium damage weapon. The Scottish Highland Unit has a broadsword style one which does more damage and is a tad slower. Rifle Officers and Light Infantry officers get a light cavalry sabre.

Russian Empire: Uses a Standard Officer Sword. Identical to the British Empire. Basic and simple medium damage, good speed.

Kaisertum Osstereich: Also uses the basic Officer Sword.

Empire Francois: Uses basic officer swords and line infantry sabres ( posh officers sword) until about 4 classes down in the infantry section. The switches to Imperial Guard Officer Sabre (my favourite). It's like the light cavalry sabre but has a fancy blue blade which is beautiful to look at.

Konigreich Preussen - Same basic officer sword except the Lutzoweches Freikorps officers who get a sabre. Very nice looking gold decorations on it which look awesome with the black uniform.

Tactics

A couple of tactics.

Feinting: Works best with the bayonet, hold your left mouse button down while lick spamming the block button. The result is your character throws his gun about. It confuses the enemy and makes your attacks hard to block.

Spin Attack: Used in groupfighting, it requires a fast hand to do it. Basically, you put your guy into a low attack/stab motion with the BAYONET. You then spin arond and let it go. The result is that it will catch them off guard and with a bit of training you can go onto chambaring to block as well.

Swipe Attack: A good technique for autoblock. This will trick your opponent into thinking you missed the attack. To perform simply put your BAYONET into any attack position and stab Past them but bring it back around before its over. This will hopefully confuse your opponet ito dropping their block.
