Introduction
I decided to make this guide since I didn't see anything about it here on steam. Much of this or even all of it has been done before and exists on the internet somewhere. This will or should be an easy reference for those who want to get the best stats on their characters that they can.
The Statuses
So here are your basic stats:
First row:
Power - Raw strength level
Affects the destructive power of heavy weapons that require strength base power for strength-
based weapons
Skills - Technical attack level
Affects the destructive power of weapons that require great dexterity base power for "skill"-
based weapons
Defense - Defense against physical attacks
Affects the resistance to physical attacks from monsters base defense against physical attacks
Magic - defense against magic
Affects the resistance to the magic attacks that monsters use base defense against magical
attacks
Second row:
HP(stat) - Affects HP and poison resistance
Represents basic physical power, affects resistance to poison around how much your
HP(health) will raise next level up* & poison..???
Spirit - Defense against status magic
Affects resistance to a monster's status magic resistance to and how long staus magic effects
you
Charm - Affects status magic
Affects the success rate of the character's own status magical power success rate of status
changing attacks/magic
Luck - Frequency of finding treasure
Affects the appearance rate of treasure chests within dungeons what monster will drop.
higher luck = rarer items
!Notice! -- Luck changes only through what is currently equiped. If your equipment doesn't change it,
it will be 5.

How Equipped Weapons affect Leveling Up
Leveling up is fairly simple. Beat monsters and walk over("grab") any experience crystals(ECs)
they drop. However, they might not drop any ECs and the amount of experience per crystal
varies from place to place and from game to game.
Amount per crystal varies by:
1) distance placed from home
2) order is which the artifact->land is placed
3) boss monsters give 10 times more than normal monsters
The amount needed to level up goes in a pattern.
Base amount(10) + previous amount needed + 40 times the # of level ups already gotten = new
total amount

The Cycle
Leveling up happens in a pattern and goes in a cycle of 4. After 4 level ups, the pattern resets.
When you level up each stat is given so many points based on what weapon is currently
equipped and after so many points the stat increases.

Using Only 1 Weapon
Assuming that you use only weapons of 1 type when you level up throughout the entire game.
This is to show you how you get the numbers for points.

Technically, I could say at any multiple of 4 is how many points are needed for a stat to go up by 1. I choose,like so many before me, to use 100 because it's easier to use and easier for others to understand.

The Best Stats And How To Get Them
So this is the part that most everyone will be looking for and skip to.
How do I get the best stats for my character?
Here are the top stat options I have found.:
1. Minimum stat of 79, HP as high as possible:
2 Sword
2 Axe
32 Staff
62 Glove
This gives: 99 / 79 / 79 / 79 / 86 / 79 / 94
+20 required for max stats
+7 required for 93 HP
In case you can't figure it out on your own, That's 2 levels using a 1H sword, 2 levels using a 1H Axe, 32 levels using a Staff, and 62 levels using a glove as your weapon. Thought I'd put that out there before someone asks if that's 2 handed sword or 2 levels using a 1H sword or something.
(We all have our moments when our brains just don't work.)
2. Minimum HP of 93, other stats as high and as even as possible:
20 Staff
78 Glove
This gives: 99 / 78 / 78 / 69 / 93 / 78 / 88
+30 required for max stats
3. Minimum overall stat as high as possible:
14 Sword
14 Axe
28 Staff
42 Glove
This gives: 99 / 82 / 85 / 82 / 82 / 82 / 89
+17 required for max stats
+11 required for 93 HP
4,5,6. Same as previous, more Charm for less Power and Defense:
Same as previous but with:
-4 Sword, +1 Staff, +2 Glove, +1 Bow
-8 Sword, +2 Staff, +4 Glove, +2 Bow
-12 Sword, +3 Staff, +6 Glove, +3 Bow
These give: 99 / 82 / 84 / 82 / 82 / 82 / 89
..................... 98 / 82 / 83 / 82 / 82 / 82 / 90
..................... 98 / 82 / 82 / 82 / 82 / 82 / 91
same + requirements as previous
Since it is possible to make a pendant with +20 to all stats and all essences and resistances, options 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 will all get you to max quickly.
Option 2 is best for a character you plan on importing to someone else's game, since equipment bonuses aren't counted on imported characters.
Options 3, 4, 5 and 6 are good if you are interested in an alternate pendant that is only +15 to stats, all essences and resistances, but with the fast revive ability.
If you want to import your character into another game as the 2nd player, then you want the base HP stat at 93. The 93 HP stat is the final break point for increasing HP regeneration, and is something like double the speed of having the stat lower. The difference in battle is very noticeable.
And of course, you are free to play with changing the weapons to try for different stats then these.
There is no way to max all the stats to 99 without using some sort of cheat.
Before anyone asks, yes that's 98 levels on all of the leveling options. The max level for a character is 99 and you start at level 1 so you can only gain 98 levels on any character.
And here is a Level Up Calculator someone made along time ago. It still works even for the steam version of the game. The calculator already accounts for your starting level in it's formula.
