Quest/Event Walkthrough and tips:

If you want a walkthrough for every quest, I recommend This Guide[gamefaqs.gamespot.com] :

Artifact Placement:

For artifact placement, I recommend this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2526704249

Or one of the less rigid placements in: This FAQ[gamefaqs.gamespot.com]

For either option --> use This FAQ[gamefaqs.gamespot.com] to know which quests give what artifacts:

(also I just noticed that I've been using quest and event interchangeably. Oops. Thankfully, in this case, they are talking about the same thing, so I've mostly just left it that way.)

Event-Related Missables

Missable Diary Entries:

!! The Cactus Diary entries for Blacksmithing, Golem Workshop, Mana Orchards, Instruments, and Monster Corral are PERMANENTLY MISSABLE. Prioritize talking to cactus after unlocking them!

(Entering the workshop is usually the trigger for them after the prerequisites are unlocked iirc. Corral is triggered by walking in the back area of Dormina)

-- Prioritize talking to cactus IN GENERAL and don't take detours! Don't chance it! --

!Prioritize doing #2 Niccolo's Business Unusual, #3 The Wisdom of Gaia, and #5 The Lost Princess ASAP.

! Recruit the sorcerers when prompted. Talk to Bud at Home. (#62 is missable if you ignore Bud and don't bring him to see the various wisdoms when you have the chance. Yes, I have turned down recruiting the sorcerers before, lol)

Missable Boss:

Deathbringer 2 boss can be missed --> go back to bone fortress again and kill it before #40 The Crimson Dragon quest.

Missable Character Entries:

Make sure you talk to Alex at both Gato Grotto and Geo when you first see him just to be safe, before completing the Jumi Questline (#33 Teardrop Crystal)

!Make sure you talk to the wisdoms as they appear for their character entries

Missable event items:

! Once you complete #37 Catchin' Lilipeas --> go to Polpota Harbor for a unique ring

! Choosing Pearl during #33 Teardrop Crystal will get you a unique sword.

! Take Daena (in one the domina inn rooms and say the second option "soul lives forever" etc) to see Gaia in Luon Highway. She'll give you an early exp share ring before tempering can be unlocked.

Talk to her during Niccolo's Quest and do NOT complete #17 Heaven's Gate, do not enter Gato after doing #1 Niccolo, #5 lost Princess, #9 Murmuring Forest, and #23 Flame of Hope, or see Gaia yourself (to be safe) before doing this or she will disappear.

Missable Items:

For some items you can only get a limited number of them per playthrough.

See the item list in the section below

Missable Quests

1) These quests will FAIL if you leave the dungeon area/Enter certain areas or enter your house!

3. The Wisdom Of Gaia (Enter your house or by entering Gato after completing #1 Niccolo, #5 lost Princess, #9 Murmuring Forest, and #23 Flame of Hope. Avoid going to see Gaia yourself just to be safe.

5. The Lost Princess (fails upon Entering the Tower of Leires (Moon's Mirror)

15: Pokeihl Dream Teller (Ulkan Mines)

20: Diddle Had it! (to be safe, do NOT leave the underworld if Pokeihl asks you)

25: Treasure Map (Triggered at SS Buccaneer. Don't leave the area when you trigger the quest)

36: Reach for the Stars (Duma Desert)

45: Niccolo Part 2 (Don't enter your house!)

46: Niccolo Part 3 (Don't enter your house!)

47: Niccolo Part 4 (Don't enter your house!)

!! There are probably more than these ones listed! Be VERY careful before you leave a dungeon! To be safe, if you get a scene upon entering a dungeon, don't leave until it's finished!

2) Quests that fail/can't be completed upon finishing another quest before it:

#3 Gaia's Wisdom --> can't be done if # 17 Heaven's Gate is complete (also Daena will disappear if you go to Gaia again before you talk to her at the inn! Avoid going to Gato, just finish her quest first) Talk to her at the crossroads during Niccolo's quest just to be safe!)

#5 The Lost Princess --> Can't be done if #21 The Looking-Glass Tower is triggered before it (don't even enter Tower of Leires (Moon's Mirror) until this quest is done.

#4 Where's Putty? --> Can't be done if: #64 Catchin' lilipeas is completed before it

#8 Huntin' Du'Cate --> Can't be done if #64 Catchin' Lilipeas is completed before it?

#18 Daddy's Broom --> Can't be done if you've placed 18+ lands or finish any of the three main story quests, #13 Heaven's Gate, #33 Teardrop Crystal, or #40 The Crimson Dragon.

#25 Can't Look Back and #36 Reach for the Stars cancel each other if you try to trigger them while the other is active or talk to the other relevant NPC while one of them is active.

#49 Li'l Cactus (Fails if you complete #24 Cosmo while this quest is active)

#65Gilbert Love is Blind-> Can't be done if: #58 Gilbert School Amour is completed before it.

#66 Wimpy Thugling --> Can't be done if: #29 Fluorite is completed before it

3. Quests that can just be Outright failed if you do something wrong:

#3: Wisdom of Gaia: Saying you won't go with her or choosing the wrong options will fail the quest. Talk to her during Niccolo's quest at the highway to be safe. At the inn, say the 2nd option (souls live on) and then say that you will go with her.

#11: In Search of Faeries: If you refuse when Matilda asks for your help

#25 Can't Look Back ( Fails if you talk to Kathinja at Duma Desert (Sand Rose) while this quest is active.)

#35 Treasure Map: (if you take too long in a room, you'll be caught.)

#36 Reach for the Stars (if you talk to Kathinja at Duma and then go to Fief Snowfields and trigger the event there)

#51 Nordic Snowfield: (Save when you hit level 7! You only get ONE chance to pick the correct fairy)

#52 Buried Treasure: (At the treasure chest, give the Dudbears and Roger something. I've always given a Halo coin, so I'm not sure about giving any of the other items)

#59 Gilbert Resume for Love: (Don't leave the room! this quest fails if you get the spell prompts wrong and you leave the room)

The updated spell text: "Heavens bless the earth with life giving showers of rain. The ancient memories of mother earth fill our souls with bliss. Become the pillar of our energy and know the ultimate truth"

#67 Pee Wee Birdie: (Either by refusing to help or by talking to her bird egg too much. Seriously. Don't talk to the little bird egg thing too many times. Just don't.)

4. Quests that Need Specific Mana Levels:

#43 Seeing Double: Needs Shade Level 3 for Colorblocks (Domina)

#66 Wimpy Thugling: Needs Dryad Level 3 for Duma Desert (Sand Rose)

#67 Pee Wee Birdy: Needs Wisp Level 3 and Salamander Level 3 (Domina) Note: The missables list linked above mentions shade 3, so you might want to just get Wisp, Salamander, and Shade to level 3 for domina just to be safe. (you need Shade level 3 for domina anyway for Seeing Double)

Missable Achievements

1) Do ALL 67 Quests IN ONE PLAYTHROUGH and then beat the final boss. (Completing the Tree of Mana Artifact quest ENDS THE CURRENT PLAYTHROUGH!)

2) After each quest, talk to cactus at home to get a diary entry for it. Do this for all 67 quests.

3) Do all 67 quests to kill their various bosses, and kill deathbringer 2 by entering bone fortress and going to the boss room again (before doing the crimson dragon quest!)

Get encyclopedias -->

1) Weapons/armor: Talk to mark in Domina when you first enter it, he'll be sitting down near teepo

2) Items: from Talk to Jennifer while she's in Domina market.

3) Produce: From the tree at your house

4) Golems: Professor Bomb, entering your workshop after doing his quest, Junkyard

Instruments: Student, Entering workshop after doing Gilbert's quest in Geo

5) Monsters: Pets, entering back area of Domina after getting sorcerers and doing Lost Princess and Niccolo's business unusual.

6) Difficulty Settings (Forbidden tome): unlocks on second playthrough and onward

! Make sure you talk to Alex at Geo before completing the Jumi Questline (#33 Teardrop Crystal)

When you've completed all encyclopedias, go into your house and enter the right room then click on the desk with the books.

32 Crabs:

Can Attempt: Once per playthrough during the Summer Lovin' Event.

(But it can be save-scummed in the remaster since we can save anywhere in dungeons now! >:)

Event: #27 Summer Lovin (Entering Artifact Torch of Coral, Madora Beach): Kill 32 crabs:

7 --> First screen: (YES, 7! The 7th is a sneaky jerk on the far right and if you take too long it will leave before you even see it)

8 -> First cave

8 -> Second cave

9 --> Final cave (7 initially, then 2 appear after; top left, then bottom right and wandering)

The final cave is by far the hardest part, imo. you have to angle yourself diagonally down-left to hit the bottom-ish crab of the three clustered before it can bolt for the bottom right corner. The one hugging the top right will leave soon after. The timing is pretty tight.)

Demi-Human Pets

Demi-Human Pets need Artifacts to be at certain mana levels to appear:

Chobin Hood --> Jungle (Medallion): Drayd 3

Goblin --> Lumina (Firefly Lamp): Shade 3 and Dryad 3

Mad Mallard --> Lake Kilma (Stone Eye): Wisp 3

Narcissos --> Junkyard (Broken Doll): Gnome 3

Sahagin --> Duma Desert (Sand Rose): Drayd 3

Succubus --> Fieg Snowlands (Frozen Heart): Shade 3

Tomato Man --> Norn Peaks (Skull Lantern): Salamander 3
