This guide aims to be a complete guide to help players complete their Ghost List, with detailed descriptions on how to react to each ghost as they appear in the game.

The goal is to get you these three achievements:

Glanced all targets.

Photographed all specters.

Photographed all traces.

They represent the Ghosts, Specters and Traces in the Ghost List, respectively. This mean you have to Fatal Glance XXX ghosts, as well as photograph 101 Specters and 68 Traces.

Oh, and heavy spoiler warning. Have fun!

2. Understanding The Guide

Each of the three categories, Ghosts, Specters and Trails are first given their complete list as per the in-game Ghost List, and secondly, a detailed descriptive guide on how to find them in the game, in order.

The ghosts are listed in the same order as they will appear in your Ghost List and are separated by chapters so it's easy to keep track of your progression. In the game the ghosts have no numbers so I numbered them as they appear in the Ghost List, allowing you easily to keep track of them.

In the detailed guide section, the order of the ghosts is given based on the order you generally encounter them in the game, so it's easy to keep track of what to look out for next. In case you just want to find a guide for a specific ghost that you are missing, just search for the given number in the list.

In the list, the locations for the ghosts are given where the game marks them to exist, but in the detailed capturing sections the locations are for where it's optimal for the player to capture the ghosts. I hope that makes sense. As an example: capturing the game's first Specter from the Ichiru Manor Room 102 where the ghost itself is in the room above, Room 203.

If you see a ditto mark, " (double quotation marks), it means the location or description is the same as the column above it.

You can use Reload Last Checkpoint from the menu to retry capturing ghosts however many times you need to in case you miss the timing. Just notice that some checkpoints can be far in between and can set you back quite a bit. Keep an eye out on the Saving text on the bottom right corner. Usually the game auto-saves after each encounter that drops an item. Do note, however, that any ghosts you've added to your Ghost List since the last checkpoint will be removed.

3.1. Ghost List

Ghosts are hostile apparitions which appear both as scripted enemy encounters as well as random encounters.

To unlock a ghost to your Ghost List, you must perform a Fatal Glance on it. To do so, you first need to capture a (Fatal Frame?) photograph of the ghost when it's displaying an animation that led to its death lore-wise. Secondly, you have to Touch it on its moment of "death" once you've depleted its health to perform the Fatal Glance.

Ghosts will linger a little longer if their Fatal Glance condition is met, so if the ghost disappears immediately after dying, you didn't successfully photograph their special animation.

4.1. Specter List, Pt. 1

Specters are a type of non-hostile ghosts that appear briefly in various places in the game, usually either by standing still for a moment before dissipating, or moving in such a way that you only have limited time to capture their photographs.

4.3.1. Specters - First Drop

A Vanishing Trace # Name Location Description S001 Peering Shadow Ichiru Manor - 1F : Room 102 Once you get the Postmortem Photograph from Hisoka, walk through the broken down wall and enter Ichiru Manor. As soon as you step inside Room 102, a ghost appears on the second floor and peeks through the collapsed floor, allowing you to aim up and take a photo. S002 Hands in the Water Ichiru Manor - 1F : Guest Room Hallway When you step on the pool of water in the Guest Room Hallway, turn to face the room to the south (Room 101) to see a set of hands in the water. S003 Man Peeking Through Old Building - 1F : Passageway At the end of the Passageway where the ceiling has fallen down, there's a note (Mr. Hikami's Downfall) on the floor, pick it up, and a ghost will appear behind the rubble in front of you. S004 Hanging Man Old Building - 1F : Staff Hallway After taking the Psychic Photograph of the locked door, turn back and start crawling back underneath the rubble. Once you see the indicator on your screen, stop crawling (or a beam will block his face) and look up with your camera. S005 Man Looking at a Key Old Building - 1F : Staff Room Once you pick up the Key on Red Keychain in the Staff Room, a ghost will appear behind you. Raise the camera and Yuri will automatically turn to face the ghost, just aim a bit up to get the ghost in the frame. S006 Searching Man Old Building - 1F : Staff Hallway / Owner's Room After opening the door to the Owner's Room, there will be a very faint ghost just directly ahead of the door and just a little to the right of the closet. S007 Peering Man Old Building - 1F : Staff Hallway After the cutscene, when heading back to the Staff Hallway and crawling under the rubble, as soon as you see the indicator, raise the camera and you'll see a ghost peeking from beyond the Staff Room's door. S008 Staring Man Ichiru Manor - 1F : Access Stairway When following Hisako down the stairs, look into the room to your left and you will see a ghost peeking near the doorway.

4.3.2. Specters - Second Drop

Hikami # Name Location Description S009 Woman on a Cliff Pool of Purification - Jumper's Point After you get the Camera Obscura, proceed forwards and a woman will appear on the edge of the cliff just beyond the wooden gate. S010 Hanged Woman Unfathomable Forest : SE - Hanging Tree After you capture Fuyuhi's trace next to the tree with the noose, the woman appares in front of you, aim a bit up to take a photograph of her. S011 Swept-Away Maiden Unfathomable Forest : Pure Water Bridge Once you enter the smaller bridge towards the shrine, turn 90° to your right, and you will see the maiden being carried in the water's currents towards you. S012 Girl Watching from Behind Unfathomable Forest : Shrine of Dolls Path After trying the back door and picking up Fuyuhi's Note 3, head back to the four-way fork in the road and the three kids will appear behind you, next to the shrine. Yuri will automatically turn to face them, but you need to walk back a little bit to get all three in frame. S013 Girl Watching from Behind " " S014 Boy Watching from Behind " " S015 Pushed Woman Unfathomable Forest : NW - Lookout Point After trying the shrine's back door and entering the forest to find Fuyuhi, the woman will fall off the cliff face. You will have to be very fast as she disappears pretty much instantly as she hits the ground. I

4.3.3. Specters - Third Drop

Postmortem Photography # Name Location Description S016 Drowned Woman Ichiru Manor - 1F : Guest Room Hallway Once you enter the L turn in the hallway, the woman's (Nao Migiwa) ghost appears to the left, at the end of the corridor. S017 Man in the Shadows Ichiru Manor - 1F : Lounge Hallway After the hatch on the wall closes by itself, the three ghosts (Akira Oinuma, Mizue Fu-katsu & Nao Migiwa) appear in Linen Room to your right. You have little time to move to the doorway so you can get a photograph of all three ghosts. Best way to do it is to hug the left side of the corridor and run to where the hatch is, then turn and move instantly afterwards. S018 Woman in the Shadows " " S019 Woman in the Shadows " " S020 Hands Waving in the Dark " After the hatch has closed, a set of hands appear in the Passageway up the stairs to the left of the hatch. They will disappear if you get up the stairs and move closer. S021 Man Shrouded in Darkness Old Building - 1F : Staff Hallway As soon as you open the door to the Owner's Room, the ghost will appear in front of the cupboard. S022 Man in the Darkness Old Building - 1F : Owner's Room After you pick up Messy Note 1 from the cupboard, the man will appear behind you. Ren will automatically face towards him when you equip the camera. You can aim a little up to get a core shot. S023 Man Beckoning Upward Ichiru Manor - 2F : Room 202 Once you get close to the small stairs to the second floor, a man is seen walking into Room 201 from by the window. S030 Man Beckoning Inside Ichiru Manor - 2F : Room 202 Once you enter Room 201, run to the middle of the room and turn directly to your left to face the hole in the wall. You'll see a man at the very end of the building in Room 203. S017 Man Hanged by the Neck Ichiru Manor - 2F : Room 203 Look inside the hole on the floor in the middle of the room, a ghost will appear above the hole. You need to equip the camera and walk backwards while looking up to capture his photograph. S028 Man Hanged in a Hole Ichiru Manor - 2F : Room 203 After you get the psychic photograph of the locked door on the second floor, walk towards Room 202 and you will see the man hanging on the left side of the hole. S025 Falling Woman Ichiru Manor - 2F : 201 & 202 Veranda After getting the Key on Yellow Keychain and beating the Man Hanged by the Neck to get Messy Note 3, you will be facing a cracked window. Walk towards it and you will hear a woman's falling scream. She will fall past the right side of the window really fast.

Rotate the camera vertically and walk to the window so you can see her better as she falls. You can use Reload Last Checkpoint from the menu to retry this however many times you need to. S026 Woman who was Hanged Ichiru Manor - 2F : Guest Room Hallway As soon as you open the door with the Key on Yellow Keychain, the hanged woman appears on the other side of the door. Back up a little bit and look up to capture her. S027 Man Transfixed by Sunset Ichiru Manor - 3F : Rooftop Once you open the door to the rooftop, you'll see the man next to the broken down railing to the left. S031 Man Hanged by the Neck Ichiru Manor - 3F : Rooftop There's an cracked window next to the second door to your right on the rooftop. Walk to the left side of the window and walk backwards while looking at the window and you'll see the hanged man inside. Keep to the left side of the window and look up towards the right side of the room through the hole (where the second window panel would be). S029 Man Staring at Something Ichiru Manor - 3F : Observation Room After opening the door to the room, a ghost can be seen directly ahead in the corner. S032 Woman in the Netherworld Ichiru Manor - 3F : Observation Room After the cutscene when Rui is about to jump down, get to the window and you'll see the woman to the left of Rui.

4.3.4. Specters - Fourth Drop

Spirited Away # Name Location Description S033 Woman Who Leaps Down Mountain Trail : Behind Ichiru Falls Once you get Haruka's Note 1 from the small Shrine and exit the cave, a woman will leap down the cliff from above you.

Rotate the camera vertically and walk out with it ready. You should get it with one or two attempts. S034 Wistful Shrine Maiden Pool of Purification : Pool of Purification Upon entering the pool, a Shrine Maiden can be seen walking in the middle. S035 Maiden Swept Downriver Unfathomable Forest : Shrine of Dolls Path After seeing Haruka's Trace on the other side of the bridge, walk to the bridge and you'll see the maiden in the water, coming from the right towards the middle of the broken bridge. S043 Looming Man Unfathomable Forest : SE - Bewildering Wood After you touch the burlap sack mask on the ground, Kyozo appears a little bit ahead, rushing towards you. S037 Man in Agony Unfathomable Forest : SE - Riverview Basin Walk into the small dead end to the left of the tree with the noose and you'll see a man writhing on the ground. S038 Wandering Shrine Maiden Unfathomable Forest : SE - Bewildering Byway Once you get close to the bridge, you'll see three maidens walking towards it. S039 Wandering Shrine Maiden " " S040 Wandering Shrine Maiden " " S041 Murdered Shrine Maiden Unfathomable Forest : Pure Water Bridge As you cross the bridge, you'll see the man chasing the maiden on the other side. S042 Man Gouging Out Eyes " " S044 Fleeing Child Shrine of Dolls - 1F : Front Shrine Stairway Once you get the token of the hanging doll, exit the room and the child will be on the opposite doorway, a bit to your right. S036 Figure from the Water Lower Storeroom : Memento Cloister Wade yourself to the large flooded room with the doll shelves, take a left and the figure will raise from the water in the southwest corner of the room. S045 Masked Man Shrine of Dolls - 1F : Sanctum Hallway - S After turning the corner to the left, you'll see the man walk up the steps from the middle of the Flooded Sanctum to the left. S046 Fleeing Child Shrine of Dolls - 1F : Hallway of Dolls Upon opening the door to the Western Storeroom, you can see the child on your left, sprinting towards the shelves on the right. S047 Man Carrying a Reliquary Womb Cavern : Submerged Passage Near the start, when you walk to the hole on the wall to your right, you'll see the man walking there.

4.3.5. Specters - Fifth Drop

The Veiled House # Name Location Description S048 Fleeing Child Shrine of Dolls - 1F : Sanctum Hallway - W Do the Phantom Exposé on Koto Okudera (Girl in Yellow) at the hole on the floor, and she will appear above it and will start running away. You will have just barely time for the Type-7 to charge before she disappears into the wall. S049 Fleeing Child Shrine of Dolls - 1F : Workshop Do the Phantom Exposé on Koto Okudera (Girl in Yellow) who is in the closet from under the doorway. Yurine Uno (Girl in Black) will appear on the just outside of it and run towards the other side of the Workshop with the shelves. S050 Fleeing Child Shrine of Dolls - 1F : Sanctum Hallway - E Do the Phantom Exposé on Rui in the closet, walk South and Yurine Uno (Girl in Black) will appear in the hallway, running away from the closet. S051 Fleeing Child Shrine of Dolls - 1F : Sanctum Hallway - S When entering the hallway, a child appears at the doorway to the Returning Hallway. S052 Tall Woman Watarai Residence - 1F : Porch After defeating Kyozo, walk to the door he kicked in, and you'll see the game's creepiest ghost standing between the large tree on the right and the smaller one to its left.

4.3.6. Specters - Sixth Drop

Immortal Flower # Name Location Description S053 Waiting Woman Mikomori Station : Ticket Gate / Platform Once you go past the ticket gate and onto the platform, there's a woman inside the train car. You can see her through the train's front window or through the side window. S054 Old Woman in the Door Shrine of the Ephemeral 1F : Garden Hallway - E When getting to the corner, an old woman is seen walking at the end of the hallway. S055 Shrine Maiden in a Room Shrine of the Ephemeral 1F : Garden Hallway - N Upon hitting the midpoint of the hallway, a Maiden can be seen in the window to the South. S056 Shrine Maiden in a Room Shrine of the Ephemeral 1F : Lodger's Room After entering the room, the Maiden can be seen by a small table near the window to the East. S057 Man Staring Back Beneath the Shrine - Lattice Window Hallway After entering the photographing the Casket Altar, look through the lattice window to see a man jumping towards you. S058 Tall Woman Ephemeral Station : Control Room When coming back in to turn on the power, the tall woman stands outside the window near the switch. You have to be hugging the control panel and looking up at the top of the window frame, the time window is very small since she moves her head out of the way. S059 Tall Woman Forest Station : Hikami Tunnel Exit While going down the path towards the item, the woman appears to your right, this time being roughly at eye level between two bushes.

4.3.7. Specters - Seventh Drop

4.3.8. Specters - Eight Drop

The Witching Hour # Name Location Description S065 Shadowy Man Kurosawa's Antiques 2F : Yuri's Room After defeating Fuyuhi's ghost, pick up Yuri's Notebook 1 from on top of the drawer and the man will crawl from underneath the table at the foot of Yuri's bed. S063 Man in a Hallway " After defeating Fuyuhi's ghost, check upon Yuri, Ren turns towards the window and you need to instantly take a photo to capture both the man and the falling woman. I recommend you wield Ren's Camera Obscura and instantly do a multishot (4 should suffice). S064 Dropping Woman " S066 Man in a Mirror Kurosawa's Antiques 2F : Hisako's Room After defeating Fuyuhi's ghost in Yuri's Room, but before continuing Surveillance, go grab The Female Perspective journal from Hisako's room. As you exit, a ghost can be seen in the mirror. S067 Peering Woman Kurosawa's Antiques 2F : Store Hallway When turning the corner or coming up the stairs to the hallway next to Miu's room to check upon her, a ghost can be seen closing the door to her room. 16. Second Thread: Purple TiesThese bonus missions where you play Ayane (Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive) are unlocked once you finish the main game at least once. Although it is a bonus campaign, these four Traces are necessary for the completion of the Ghost List and to unlock the achievement.

T065 Tsumugi Katashina in the Tunnel Hikami Tunnel : Materials Storage Instead of going directly to the thread designated path, continue along the tunnel. Once you get close to the fence separating the tunnel, Tsumugi can be seen walking away on the other side. T066 Tsumugi Katashina in the Forest Unfathomable Forest : Rubble from Landslide After crouching under the trunk, take the left path and keep to the left until the lantern. Turn right there and take a few steps and you will see Tsumugi coming to the same path from the left. T067 Tsumugi Katashina in the Shrine Shrine of Dolls - 1F : Front Shrine Hallway After you enter the shrine and take the corner to your left, Tsugumi will be standing next to the doorway towards the Returning Hallway. T068 Tsumugi Katashina Entering the Shrine Mountain Path : Path to the Shrine Once you get to the base of the steps to the Shrine's gate. Tsumugi will be seen ascending the steps in front of you.
