There is little information on the origins of the structure, although it is generally agreed that Konni was founded in 2018 as a private military company. Its staff was notably composed of former members of the special forces and enlisted personnel. A major turning point came in 2019 when ultranationalist leader Vladimir Makarov and his Inner Circle fighters joined the group after the defeat of General Roman Barkov's troops in Urzikstan. It is unclear, however, whether at this point the two structures merge - with Konni absorbing the Inner Circle - or whether they remain separate while collaborating. In addition to his fighters, Makarov brings with him the wealthy Milena Romanova, a supporter of his cause. The wife of a real estate tycoon, she inherited his fortune after his assassination and became Konni's financier.

On April 6, 2019, Vladimir Makarov launched two simultaneous attacks on the Verdansk stadium and airport, causing significant damage. He was nevertheless captured by Task Force 141 and incarcerated in the Zordaya penitentiary. Following this, Konni reorganized, with Andrei Nolan taking command.

Despite Vladimir Makarov's incarceration, Konni continued to remain active. At the end of 2019, the group took possession of the Al Mazrah underground bunker complex, in the United Republic of Adal. Formerly used by the Soviet Union for the development and testing of chemical weapons. Konni takes over the work and "improves" it, causing the area to be irradiated on the surface. Following these experiments, the group built the Defense Research Center and Building 21 where it continued the development of radioactive gases. The work was then moved to the island of Ashika in Japan.

On August 12, 2022, Konni fighters ambushed a Shadow Company convoy in Al Mazrah, stealing three ballistic missiles that were to be smuggled to U.S. allies fighting Russia in the Middle East. Finally, although the Al Mazrah operation was a major tactical success for Konni, it alienated the powerful Shadow Company. Taking advantage of a workers' revolt on Ashika Island, the Shadow Company launches a raid there. Despite fierce resistance, Konni was forced to abandon the area. In July 2023, Konni organized a counterattack, but without notable success.

From February 2023, the group experienced a troubled period, pushing it to reach an agreement with the Las Almas cartel and the Al-Qatala rebel group in order to gain access to the Koschei underground complex, the Al Mazrah infrastructure and the village of Taraq in order to be able to continue its activities. On July 12, 2023, Konni temporarily regained control of Building 21, before the premises were retaken again by a counterattack in August which allowed the Shadow Company to secure the scientific data contained on the site.

In August 2023, Konni launches powerful attacks on Al Mazrah where they eliminate the Las Almas Cartel and Al-Qatala from the Koschei compound. Repelling a counterattack from Al-Qatala, they install ballistic missiles. The Shadow Company responds by launching Operation Rogue Arsenal and manages to destroy the missiles and seize Konni's stock of chemical agent. However, two Konni operators - Ivan Alexxeve and Andrei Nolan - managed to recover the gas containers and informed Vladimir Makarov who is still incarcerated at this time.

On November 10, 2023 around two a.m., a Konni commando infiltrated underwater and stormed the Zorkaya prison complex and freed Vladimir Makarov. Despite this success, Vladimir Makarov had Ivan Alexxeve executed, whom he criticized for his slowness in taking action, and replaced him with Andrei Nolan, considered more dedicated and aggressive. A few hours later, another assault was launched on the port of Sakhra and seized several missiles which were in the custody of Farah Karim's fighters. Following a series of successes, Konni also manages to seize the remaining stocks of the chemical arsenal of the late General Roman Barkov despite the intervention of Task Force 141.

Konni takes his loot back to the Atomgrad compound in the Urzikstan Mountains. Located by American intelligence, the places are invaded by John Price and Farah Karim who manage to destroy the missiles before their launch. However, Konni had carefully housed two other missiles away from the Atomgrad complex and fired them at the Kastovian military base in Arklov, killing 158 people and injuring more than 200. The next day, Vladimir Makarov's men blew up a civilian plane flying from Kastovia to Sochi. Konni's men then went to the crash site to plant evidence incriminating the Urzikstan Liberation Force. This part of the operation, however, was a failure following the intervention of Farah Karim and Alex Keller who quickly arrived in the area.

Even if at this stage Konni seems to have gained the advantage against Task Force 141, an unexpected alliance will rebalance the forces. Indeed, Task Force 141 is contacted by the fallen general Herschel Shepherd who managed to locate Milena Romanova on a private island off the Turkish coast. Ostracized by American authorities, Shepperd hopes to find himself associated with a major victory to regain his honor. Led by Captain Price, the special forces landed at the end of the day and faced fierce resistance from Konni's troops. Cornered, Milena Romanova cracks under the pressure and reveals the position of Vladimir Makarov in Saint-Perersburg.

The next day, Task Force 141 stormed the building block occupied by Konni and, after fierce resistance, Andrei Nolan who organized the defense was captured. Despite a close interrogation, Nolan does not give in and does not provide any information. On the other hand, his cell phone and radio inform Task Force 141 that an important personality is being moved by Konni to Siberia. Convinced that it is Vladimir Makarov, Task Force 141 ambushes the convoy, but the VIP turns out to be General Shepperd who was captured by Konni. In exchange for his life and freedom, the general offers his information and Shadow Company's strike force.

Following this alliance, Task Force 141 launches a double operation. The first on Gora Dam in Verdansk to prevent Konni from blowing up the dam and drowning the town downstream. The second operation consists of storming a disused military airport in Urzikstan, which appears to be used by Vladimir Makarov as a headquarters and as a shelter for his stock of chemical weapons. A first team infiltrates on the ground, while the Shadow Company provides air support which decimates Konni's troops who suffer very heavy losses. After heavy combat, the ground team secures Makarov's arsenal which is destroyed by an airstrike. Better yet, Makarov is considered killed during the fighting, decapitating Konni.

But a few days later, American and British intelligence picked up communications where Makarov's call code was used and seemed to indicate that he was in London. Using radio communications, Task Force 141 locates abnormal activity underground in the city. Once there, the intervention forces realize that Konni has planned to destroy The Channel Tunnel while Vladimir Makarov appears still alive. Once again, his plans will be thwarted, but John "Soap" McTavish will pay for this victory with his life. After killing "Soap", Makarov still manages to escape, raising fears of an imminent resurgence of Konni.

Equipment

Thanks to its massive financing and its broad strategic autonomy in relation to Russian political power, the Konni group has an extremely abundant and powerful arsenal. This arsenal is also very diverse, including Russian and Western equipment.

Small arms include almost the entire range available in Modern Warfare 3, including Western weapons. Logically, Konni's mercenaries have specific Russian weapons such as the Kastov 545/762 assault rifles, the Vaznek-9K submachine gun, the Pulemyot 762 light machine gun and the KV Inhibitor or KVD Enforcer precision rifles. Anti-vehicle weapons include the RPG-7 rocket launcher and the Strela-P man-portable anti-aircraft missile.

The Konni Group also has a wide range of transport and combat vehicles. Transport trucks, armored or armed, jeeps, amphibious transport vehicles as well as wheeled combat Wheelson robots. Koni also maintains a large fleet of helicopters including Light Helo (transport and lightly armed), UH-60 Blackhawk of American origin and Mil Mi-24 assault helicopters, heavily armed, armored and capable of transporting a team of fighters. The Group also has Mil Mi-8/17 transport helicopters.

During Operation "Danger Close", we can also note the presence of at least one Sukhoi Su-25 ground attack aircraft and one T-90MS heavy tank on the Koni base. However, some of these devices were destroyed during the bombardment of the area.

Quite surprisingly, this private military group even seems to have at least one submarine which will be used during Vladimir Makarov's escape. However, it is unknown whether this vessel is indeed the property of the Group or was "rented" for the operation.
