CoD crashing

CoD crashing

1. CoD Crashes

So. I have put a few hours into this game and I really like the Zombie mode. Sadly the game is plagued with constant game crashes, which just ruin the fun. Especially in Zombies, since your gear isn't protected by crashes and you loose everything.

After searching the internet, as well as reaching out to Activison themselves, I think I may have found a solution.

2. Talking To Activison Support

While trying to find a solution to the crashing problem, I even was crazy enough to reach out to the Activisions Support Team. They gave me a few tips, I quote:

"-Run as administrator

-Right-click on the program, go to compatibility, select disable full-screen optimization

-Allow program through antivirus

-Allow program through the firewall

-Clean Boot: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

-Disable Windows game mode

-Disable Overlays (Such as Discord, GeForce, etc...)

-Check drivers and update for the GPU and CPU: (Missing or corrupted advised the player to reinstall if the crashes persist)

-Check Windows updates

-Check for corrupted files on the operating system (System File Checker - This is Not official TS but this has been proven to work on fixing issues related to OS and drivers )

-Update driver."

After I have tried all the fixes the crashes still occured. It felt like they even happened more often.

When I reached out to them again they gave me some more things to do:

"• Try a reset of Graphics option to Default Settings or Minimum

• Disable any Services or Applications that may interfere with the game: https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/23848

• Disable Discord Overlays, NV Highlights Overlays, GeForce Experience Overlays

• Reboot PC in case of pending installs

• Port Forward: https://support.activision.com/articles/ports-used-for-call-of-duty-games"

Only thing I really did from that was to disable all kinds of overlays that I could think of (Steam Overlay, Discord, in my case AMD Adrenalin Software overlay and Game Bar)

At first the game seemed to run for a week or two. However the crashes started again.

3. Possible Fix

Since all of the "fixes" Activison recommended me didn't work I wasn't sure where to look for a possible solution. For a final time I searched the internet again, hoping I could maybe something more useful than "Ehh you gotta update your windows and GPU".

And then I stumbled across a reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ModernWarfareII/comments/11qcfx3/working_solution_for_game_shipexe_0xc0000005_0_n/?context=3

In there the author talks about some things they did some things to fix their game.

Then I found a comment by u/K3YJ

(I know it says DMZ, but it's basically the same game)

They were talking about how they tried to disable their XMP Profile in order to fix the game.

I have tried that myself and I have not crashed since. It is a bit of a pain since you will give up quite some Mhz from your RAM, but if you are ready to have this sacrifice, your CoD game will run smoothly again. I am not sure if this works for everybode, it did for a lot of people though.

I hope this gives some of you out there another option to try and fix this game of tangled and messed up code, in order to "enjoy" again.

If it doesn't there are some things that I personally haven't tried. For example from the original reddit post or the port forwarding Activison recommended me.

Well anyway. Hope this guide helps those unfortunate ones that are plagued with these crashes.

Until then,

Stay safe and take care.
