Nolan North Sustained A Serious Injury On Set

Nolan North, the actor of Nathan Drake, had to film the motion capture scenes for Uncharted 3, one of the Stunts made him break two ribs on set. Just like Nathan Drake, he continued anyway. Of course the process was very painful for him.

Nathan Drake's Original Model Was Based On Johnny Knoxville

Random Facts about Nathan Drake! image 3

I think we all know who Johnny Knoxville is. Every PlayStation fan (or Uncharted fan in general) knows Nate's iconic appearance. The double shoulder holsters, the worn-out denim, his three-quarter sleeve shirt and his beautiful messy hair.

But his original design? It looks completely different than his iconic model.

Example

Nate's Model Changed From Game To Game

I think it's pretty obvious that his model looks entirely different with each game. I mean, Uncharted 3 compared to Uncharted 4 should show it best.

the MBTI® personality test gives people insights into why they do what they do. Various sites also test Video Game characters, of course Nathan Drake wasn't an exception. Usually he scores an ESTP personality which stands for Extroverted, Observant, Thinking, Prospecting. According to Myers & Briggs Foundation, a person who scores an ESTP is flexible and focused on immediate results.

These people tend to prefer action at all times and they learn best through hands-on experience.

Sounds like Drake, doesn't it?

Nate Originally Had To Fight His Brother In Uncharted 4

Random Facts about Nathan Drake! image 20

Nate's older brother, Samuel Drake, first appeared in Uncharted 4. He wasn't really planned in the first few games, but somehow they managed to fit him right in.

In an interview with the Game's Original Director, Amy Hennig, she revealed that she intended Sam to be an antagonist in the story. His return would've been more antagonistic than reconciliatory. However the finished product still saw the brothers fighting, just not how Amy Hennig originally intended.

Nathan Drake Is Technically A Mass Murderer

Everybody who played any Uncharted game should know that Nate kills a ton of people in the game. I mean it is a key part of the gameplay. He spilled blood of thousands of people throughout his adventures.

In an Interview about the Uncharted movie, even Tom Holland said : "It’s something we thought about very seriously. We didn’t want the character to kill people like crazy all the time. Look how far he goes for treasure! So a lot of the time we see violence in the movie it’s self-defense."

He never got caught up to this point

Nate Doesn't Really Play Video Games

We all know in the beginning Nate plays Crash Bandicoot... and he played awful.

Also later in the game, Nate and Sam need to solve a puzzle involving portraits of pirate captains. However one portrait neither of them recognize it, that's because it's an easter egg about Guybrush Threepwood of Monkey Island fame. To be honest, I didn't even know who that is

Easter Egg

Nathan Drake Is Afraid Of Clowns

Most people probably think that Nathan Drake is fearless. I mean considering his actions throughout his adventures, it makes me think so too.

In the End of Uncharted 2, Nathan revealed that he is absolutely scared of clowns.

After Elena Fisher asked Nathan how scared he was, on a scale of 1 to 10, that she might've been dead, he responded with a 4/10 and said 10/10 were clowns. Can't blame him

Nate Originally Was Supposed To Have A Son Instead Of A Daughter

As we all can see in the Epilogue, Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher have a daughter. However, it was originally intended for Nathan and Elena to have a son instead.

This was revealed in an interview with the Game's Co-Director, Neil Druckmann. He also stated that he doesn't really pay attention to gender when creating characters.

Nate Doesn't Actually Get Shot

That's right! Nate never takes bullet damage. While playing Uncharted, you must think that the red-ish screen when getting shot means "YOU ARE TAKING DAMAGE, TAKE COVER" or something like that. Turns out, that's not true at all. The red-ish screen that indicates you got hit, is actually there to represent Nate's "luck" is running out. Eventually the enemies will get a clear shot and kill Nate if he took enough near-misses.

In short :

The red-ish screen is indicating Nate's "luck" and not his damage. That means he never gets shot outside of cutscenes.

Why Didn't Nathan Drake Use The Grappling Hook In The Previous Games?

Random Facts about Nathan Drake! image 47

As some of you may know, Nathan Drake didn't have the Grappling Hook in the previous Uncharted Games. Some of you also might ask, why didn't he used it in his previous adventures?

As we all may know, the Events of the previous games take place after Nate's Brother, Samuel Drake, was presumed dead. The Grappling Hook was a gift from Sam, it reminded him too much of Sam so Nate decided to store it instead of using it.

Nathan Drake's Name Isn't Actually Nathan Drake

Nathan would claim throughout the entire series that he is a descendant of Sir Francis Drake (which he is not, Sir Francis Drake was said to not have any children). In Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, it is revealed that he is not a descendant of Sir Francis Drake and in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, it is revealed that Nate's real name is "Nathan Morgan".

Why did he change his last name to Drake? After they escaped the orphanage, they decided to change their surnames and went with "Drake" in honor of their mother and to give them a story.

There actually is a comic and a novel about his other adventures.

In 2009 there was a four-part "motion comic" called Eye of Indra that functioned as a prequel to Uncharted 1 : Drake's Fortune. In Uncharted 1 are actually references to these comics.

Also, in 2011, Christopher Golden created a non-canonical novel called Uncharted: The Fourth Labyrinth. It was considered as an official standalone story, it isn't a Prequel nor a Sequel.
