BergHotel German-Hungarian Heavy tank series

BergHotel German-Hungarian Heavy tank series

Overview

The BurgHotel (translating to "Mountain Hotel") was a heavy tank initially designed by Germany in late WWI and named after the famous Mountain Top Hotel in Hungary which was destroyed by Russian artillery a few months prior. It was the greatest tank designed during its time, it had heavy armor, good firepower, and a decent engine. Unfortunately there were not enough built (only 3) to have any significant impact on the war. Only 1 survived the ordeal and was put in the Hungarian's hands. They took the design and modified it heavily and produced more before and during WWII which saw heavy combat against the Russians.

Ausf B

The first production version of the BurgHotel was the Ausf B, which boasted 20-35mm of frontal armor, 5 45mm cannons, 16 MGs, and a 137 hp engine. While slow, it had enough engine power to climb its way over hills and across trenches. Only 3 were built, 2 were destroyed, and the 3rd was damaged and recovered to Hungary right before the war ended.

Ausf D

The second production version was the Ausf D, being a complete version of the Ausf C. The Ausf C was the surviving Ausf B which had most of the upper hull cut off and a new turret added to the front. seeing as it was a lot of work to modify the Ausf B, and how they only had 1 of them, the Hungarians made some changes to the Ausf C design, including an improved 225 HP engine, 2 75mm cannons in the new turret, and an up armored version of the original turret design. It also had 50mm of frontal hull armor and 60 and 70mm of armor on the turrets. It saw combat on the Eastern front early in WWII but was quickly regarded as inadequate for fighting the heavily armored russian tanks.

Ausf E

The Hungarian's answer to the Russian Kv1 and T34 tanks was the Ausf E. While the only improvement in armor was some external plates, the design removed the side guns and was equipped with more powerful main armament. considering how these modifications were easy enough to do in the field, some were never given addon armor. It was heavily praised by crews, but some still wished for a more powerful cannon.

Ausf F

To address the firepower issue, the Ausf F was introduced; more armor, a single, more powerful, 75mm gun in the lower turret, and improved 45mm guns in the main turret. This variation was quite rare (about 4-5 were modified this way) as there was already a highly advanced version in the works.

Ausf G

The Ausf G started production at the same time that the few Ausf F's were produced. The Ausf G became the mainstay of the Hungarian tank forces soon after it started rolling off the production line. It had a new 87mm cannon in a single turret design with a shortened hull. The turret face had 140mm of armor at a slope and 95mm of armor on the hull front. As it was much smaller than its previous designs it was much more nimble than them. It, however, was not able to capture the crossroads blocked by a new Russian IS tank.

Ausf G1

The Ausf G1 was the answer to the IS threat, it had a 108mm long barrel cannon and 140mm of hull armor with a reangled lower plate. only 15 of this version were built as the 108mm cannon was in short supply. It proved effective at dealing with the new Russian heavies and were split up across the different tank companies.

The Final Version: Ausf H

The final version made was the Ausf H, with 150mm of frontal hull armor, 200mm of turret armor, a lengthened hull for a new engine, a wider turret, and a 98mm cannon. This final version proved to be very efficient at defense and offense with its new gun and armor. capable of taking on any tank built at the time.

Download And Thanks

Thank you all for reading my story of this tank i made to take on all the missions of the game! I ended up using the G1 for the crossroads mission and the first late war mission, while the G for the second mid war and the H for the final mission.
