Absolute Basics

The idea is this:

Bribe both factions to be neutral to you. Then they won't attack you.

Go to areas where civ and uta fight each other. Watch them die, pick up goons and blueprints for bigger ships without making any enemies.

Use the goons to make the uta friendly and then bribe the warp gate guards until you reach higher level zones.

use the higher level zones to get bigger ships.

You can get a large ship easily this way. You don't even have to kill anything to get one.

that's it for the basics. read on if you want in depth stuff.

Farm Goons

More in depth than above (step by step process)

Bribe both factions to be neutral to you.

visit areas where uta and civ fight each other. these include

1 "uta vs civ" events

2 if you visit a base, sometimes the enemy faction comes to attack it. they usually die quickly too.

3 "cheap hotel" events

watch them die pick up blueprints and goons.

use goons to make UTA "friendly"

once UTA is friendly, bribe the warp gate.

You have two goals

Goal 1 is to make it to a high level area to get big ships. Big ships makes it easy to farm since they can carry so much. After you get a "mule" or a "big bus" life will just be ridiculously easy.

Goal 2 is to find a star that has "civ strength level 3" and "uta strength level 3". these sections are the best for everything. they have bigger ships, everything dies quickly, and the rewards are much better. these are the best sections for farming goons.

save before you go to each next sector.

Before you go to the next sector, have enough goons to make both factions neutral to you. make them neutral or they will attack you.

go straight to the base that doesn't like you and increase your relation by giving them goons.

if you get attacked as you port into new sector, reload and try again.

farm in new sector just like before.

The first sector takes the longest. Each sector after the first is a lot faster than the previous one.

You will feel like you're making hardly any progress for like 4 hours. Then you get all the medium ships and large ships in like 30 minutes and it's awesome.

Limitations

You can get to a level 30ish sector with this strategy.

That means you can get a large ship without ever killing anything. I have my "Right Hook" to prove it.

The reason you cannot go into bigger secftors is because you have a goon limit on your big ship. It is 150 until you do a really hard quest.

Bigger sectors require 152 goons. and you only have 150.

Go into the highest level sector you can find. (hopefully it is civ strength 3 vs uta strength 3)

get large ships all day

get strong enough to pass the level 18 quest. after that, your goon limit will go up and you can go to bigger sectors.

Tips

here are some tips to help you

(1) Use the ships with the biggest crew capacity that you have. Nothing else matters. Collecting rez doesn't matter. Fighting doesn't matter. Crew capacity is the biggest thing. You can replace all the combat slots with crew capacity modules to get even more goons.

(2) Set default crew on ship to 0%. its the slider in the F3 menu. it's on the bottom right. It makes farming faster

(3) when starting the game, make a universe with as many possible sectors as possible. This gives you more options to jump to for each star and your chance of finding a few 3 strength vs 3 strength stars is increased.

(3) make weapons/technology abundant. Your chances of finding a store that sells crew boosters is much higher and that will make your grind much faster. These are like crack to you

(4) this playstyle is very different from the constant fighting. it's a very relaxing way to play. watch tv or listen to the radio while you play. it'll take awhile anyway.
