A (really) Brief Intro.
I decided to build a guide to Haven. Based on my own experience (that of a crafter, moreso than a warrior) and want to share some of the quick leveling materials. As a note, I was/am tired, and in great pain due to surgery upon writing this.
As another note, at the time I am writing this, I could find no other written guide. Also I have only been playing for 2 fulls days. I am sorry if this doesn't have all the bells and whistles you may have expected.
Material Aquisition
Leather Aquisition (grinding!) - Simply put, on Haven Island, there are two leather types available.
There's FULLGRAIN leather, which can be aquired from Boar and Pig. For the sake of this, We'll focus just on the leather portion. The rest of the materials (in this case) are just trash.
There is also QUALITY Leather, which can only be aquired after reading the book regarding it. The leather can be aquired by killing Springbok deer, and the rat creatures in the rat dungeon.
Cotton Aquisition - There's a rather convenient cotton patch just outside of the Southwest end of Haven. Use it to get full stacks of the stuff! Simple, and BORING!
Granum - Look for a rock of sufficient size... Walk over to it with any item you want to break, and proceed to harvest it. Simply put, anything can be a pickaxe, but for the sake of my mental health, I will assume you spent the 5s to get one, and are using it.
Flakestone Aquisition - Despite what the community says, crushing all of the granum isn't always the best way to get flakestone. If you desire more flakestone per 10k stack, use the thermal extractor, with Nitre. Using a ration of 10k granum to 1.5k nitre, and you'll get approximately 200 flakestone per stack. (seems low, but is sadly accurate by my estimation) I started mining using a pickaxe that I made myself, a flakestone pickaxe. It was much easier to get more flakestone once I started using it in all of my crafts.
Nitre Aquisition - Nitre Crystals can be found atop the mine SouthWest of Haven. They can also be found in town at one of the merchants for 50c each. Long and short, it'll be easier to just harvest your own.
Amarantum - You get this material after you have sufficient level in ore extraction. (it comes naturally) If you haven't already figured it out by now, you need to use the crusher at the Southeast corner of Haven. I will say this ahead of time. Mining the material is an AFK like task. (I did so as I was writing this very guide in fact!) Crush 3-99 full stacks of 10k, and you'll have maxed out the stats needed for amarantum to start appearing. Save those in your bank, as you will use them later.
Bone Tissue /Emalji Aquisition - Remember the leather? Guess what?! MORE PIG KILLING!!! But if you're like me, and dont really enjoy the constant back and forth, I might recommend following the road South East out of town. Past the graveyard, (Though you can use it too... even moreso if there's more people there!) follow the path to the left. You'll soon see a campfire on the right of that path. Go there! you can kill pigs, and butcher them if you so choose, and even sell the unneeded parts to the merchant, though the NPC is a pain and expects (requires) you to buy at least 1 item from them. If you go this route, I recommend buying a single arrow for the use of the merchant. You can get a bunch of bone/leather at this location. (Because I am writing this running on 2 hours of sleep and pain medication, I'll be lazy and just note that Emalji can be substituted for any Bone tissue in recipes.)
BONUS!
Many people online? BEST BONE HARVEST! - The graveyard, don't worry about fighting. (though you can if you want.) It's really simple. Run around the graveyard, and loot the loot bags that other players have already looted the items they wanted. They almost always leave the carcass. Loot the carcass, and butcher it. when you get near the weight threshold, sell the trash, and just keep the bone tissue. You'll see why later. When you get a couple of stacks of 10k you'll be able to mass produce weapons that you want. Always use a whole stack, as you'll find the little petty stacks don't give much in the way of skill advancement.
Ground Fur - This can be acquired from the various bears on the island. Killing them is not always an easy thing. I noticed that when I found 1, I usually found three.(May I'm just lucky?) but this material can be substituted for most leathers.
Cooking Up A... Drink?
Cooking - In order to get your cooking levels up quickly, it may be advisable to pick up a cooking tool such as the cooking pot or spit roaster. (I recommend the cooking pot) then visit the river. Collect as much water as you can carry, then head back to the nearest campfire. Using the campfire and your cooking tool, proceed to cook the water. The result doesn't really matter. Destroy the procduct, and head back to the river for more water! That's right! You are power leveling your cooking skill!
Kinda a lame way to do things, but there's no doubting that it is effective!
Armor Crafting (Didn't Think To Add Books)
Armor Crafting - Once you have had the time to collect some leather/cotton, it may be advisable to craft some armor of your own! This time around, I will make it somewhat simple. There are 5 parts of the armor for you to craft. Each peice requiring different amounts of leather/cotton. For instance helmets seem to require the smallest amount of lether/cotton to make. I hope you like grinding, because all of my guides will involve a measure of it! (Note: for the leveling portion don't bother adding any padding or base material. Just craft them as 0% / 0% so that you can get as many of them as possible.)
Bow Crafting
Bow Crafting - simply put, you are about to waste a ton of materials on this one. I will start by suggesting using only bone tissue for this one. The bone tissue tends to require a lot more strength, meaning until you get high enough level most of the bows you craft will be utter trash. Do not be disuaded! Use 4-5 stacks of 10k bone tissue and you'll start making a ton of good bows. (mainly becuase your bow crafting skill will likely be maxed, or really close to it.) Any trash should just be thrown out after producing. Don't be the guy that's giving bows away to noobs, because they'll likely never be of use to them.
Weapons Crafting
Weapon Crafting - Weapon crafting is a little strange in that you only need a small amount of knowledge to get things moving. You can get the book easy enough, and its pretty cheap too! For that matter you can une most of the materials you used in the guides above for this as well. I will note that I tend to waste a TON of materials (MATS) on crafting and always try to make the best weapon I can early on. To this I had to of course, grind the living hell out of making bone weapond with fullgrain leather. I tried making wood weapons, but the gathering time to ge the wood made it far too time consuming, and not worth the effort. Thus, I found using bone tissue/emalji worked far better, and was much more sustatinable. We are not actually using the bone weapons, and let's face it, they are trash. We are making them to be destroyed, and in order to quickly level up the skill, so that we can make even better weapon with less effort on materials that we would otherwise WANT to use. (Flakestone for instance on Haven)
Authors Notes
At the time that I wrote this, as stated at the top of the guide, I have not left the area of Haven. Therefore I cannot mention all of the materials available on the island just yet. I do however plan to get more information soon.
I plan to add the areas with the various extractors, and the nearest locations to each of them for their materials later on.
