NPC's Not Hauling?
NPC's seem to get really really lazy when it comes to hauling. From crops left by your fields to leaving all that delicious clay and limestone just lazing around. There are numerous reasons as to why they aren't hauling anything.
Jobs
They may not be hauling due to their priority on tasks. On the "Jobs" Tab in the top left, you can see your settlers skill levels and priority tasks. Priority tasks work on a scale from 1 - 5. 1 being their highest priority and 5 being lowest priority. If its a blank space under the job, Its turned off entirely.
Your Settlers may not be hauling because their priorities tell them not to do so. Set the hauling task to 1. If this hasn't fixed your problem, keep reading.
Animals
Animals can haul items for you to and from stockpiles. That's right, those 7 dogs you tamed have a purpose. Every animal (as far as I'm aware) that can be tamed can haul. Your Settlers, the more there are and the more tasks there are to do, no matter what you do, they will leave hauling to last.
Animals fill this void of tasks. You first need to:
1. Tame an animal.
You can tame animals by selecting them and press tame. Taming takes a long, long time and
depending on the animal, it can harm your settlers. Taming dogs is a good start. If you have no
dogs on your region, wait a while. They'll show up after a few seasons.
2. Visit the Animal menu on the top of your screen.
Here, you can see all domestic and pet animals. Animals will not haul until they are tamed.
3. Make sure the haul box (The left box) is ticked.
This is all your tamed animals will do. Without hesitation or complaints, they will do it.
You can select each animal individually to see how much they can haul. Cows can carry a lot
more than a dog.
Stockpile Problems?
Your settlers or animals may not be hauling because your stockpile(s) are full. This happened to me after building new farmland. I strongly suggest having numerous types of stockpiles. Construct a room and fill it with shelves (Shelves can be found in the research menu). Once your shelves are constructed, select one and disable materials. Create a stockpile on the available floor space left and disable everything except materials.
Tip: You can also make 1 shelf and disable materials, then copy paste its schematics and this will, once its constructed, it will instantly copy the original shelves settings.
