Mouse Steering Options
As many of you may already know there's no specific mod available who has this functionality. I struggled to get it to work and now I'm finally able to share the solution with you.
Required Mods
You actually just need one specific mod for it to work, fortunately it's a quite popular mod that many of you may already have:
Vehicle Control Addon from Mogli.
Configuration
First of all, you need to set up the mouse steering by going to the in-game Keyboard Control settings.
Scrolling down you will find VEHICLE - DRIVING:
Search for "Steer right" and "Steer left" as highlighted in orange then click on the "MOUSE" column highlighted in blue.
ATTENTION this is important: You have to select either right or left mouse button to steer because if you don't, it will conflict with the camera.
For example after you clicked "Steer right" on the "MOUSE" column press the left mouse button and drag your mouse to the right.
Your configuration should be something like this:
TIP: Don't forget to save!
After this configuration your mouse steering should be working by pressing left mouse button and dragging it to left or right. But you'll soon notice that the steering wheel steers itself back instantly and for that we have a fix.
Vehicle Control Addon SettingsOn the Vehicle Control Addon mod settings we have a option called "Free Steering" and you have to activate that.
After turning it on your mouse steering should be working properly with the steering wheel not steering itself back.
NOTE: Since this is a workaround you may encounter conflicts especially with cranes and frontloaders that share the same input as your steering and it stands to you to configure them to work with your setup.
