Poo Farming

Fertilizer is absolutely vital to a growing farm. Fertilizer significantly reduces the growing time for crops and for coffee, reduces the growth time between crops, which is super important as only with fertilizer can you get three coffee crops before the season ends if you plant within the first few days of Spring.

Fertilizer also has a bad habit of disappearing when a crop dies or the field is left fallow, but you can solve this by replacing seasonal crops at the end of the season with sugar cane or wheat to hold the fertilizer and also by never leaving a fertilized field empty.

However, just getting fertilizer in large enough quantities can be difficult. Your farm animals can provide vombat and roo poo to compost, but unless you have a huge number of them, that's not a viable option, especially early in the game.

That's where poo farming comes in. Roos prolifically poo all over the island. While you could go out and find that poo, it's better to just round up a crowd of roos and place them in an enclosure close to your farm and ideally, next to your compost bins. Fence this enclosure to ensure they do not despawn and do not get out into your crop fields where they can eat your precious vegetables. As long as they rendered, they will keep pooing. Collect the poo and compost it for a reliable source of fertilizer. Just be aware that having a large number may have negative impacts on the performance of the game leading to stuttering and FPS drops.

So how do you round up roos? Get the torch/flashlight from John., it has a secondary stun feature which will temporarily stun animals at night. Stun roos and then drop a trap on them. Move the trapped roo to the poo farm enclosure and release. Wash, rinse, and repeat until you have enough roos to supply your compost bins. This gets easier with a vehicle, but can be done on foot.

Ideally, if you place your poo farm full of roos near your farm, working on the farm all day will keep the roos rendered and you can come back to 50-200 poo waiting to be collected and turned into fertilizer via the compost bin.

Flower, Bush, And Fern Farming

All flowers, bushes, ferns, and lily pads will naturally propagate if placed into a flower bed surrounded by empty flower beds.

All you need is one of each of the flowers, bush, fern, and lily pads placed in cluster of empty flower beds and time. Before you know it, they will grow on their own and multiply with no need for you to do anything.

You can then harvest them for your decorating needs.

Glowing Mushroom Farming

While the previous two alternative farming methods are straight forward, this one is a bit harder to do and may be patched out by the Developer.

There's a secret that if you place a flower bed on a dead crop, the flower bed will spawn a certain flower, or plant, depending on how long it has been dead and what crop you used.

After lengthy testing, I found the easiest way to start farming glowing mushrooms is to grow a corn plant during Winter in a patch in your flower bed farm, let it die in Spring, and then the day after it dies, place a flower bed on the dead corn stalk. That should give you a glowing mushroom. You cannot place glowing mushrooms normally into a flower bed and thus this is the only way to farm glowing mushrooms. Let the glowing mushrooms do their thing and you'll end up with a never ending crop of glowing mushrooms, just leave a few in the flower beds.

It seems other crops follow the order of desert rose, billy button, blue belle, desert rose, common health, bush, fern, then glowing mushroom, jackaroo paw, and then seemingly indefinite flannel flower for days 1-10 after the day the crop died when a flower bed is placed on a dead crop.

Corn starts with glowing mushroom, then jackaroo paw, flannel flower, blue river daisy, butterfly orchid, orange daisy, bird of paradise, pink daisy, white daisy, yellow hibiscus, red hibiscus, and then goes to seemingly indefinite glow button for the subsequent days after the crop dies.

So if you're not in Spring and want to get certain flowers, this secret can be used to acquire certain Spring flowers outside of Spring.
