Introduction
Hello there!
This "guide" (its more a build draft easy to copy with short notes) focuses on how to play a Psyker variant which truly feels like you are a melee spellcaster - a Spellsword. Or ist it a Battlemage? A Battle Wizard? Is there a difference at all? And... what about Warlock/Hexblade? Those are way edgier which means they are cooler!
Can't we be cool too?
If you stick to reading this guide you'll find answers!
Core Skills
We do use Smite in dire situations for damage, crowd control and ...
... generate high amount of peril easily.
To vent that built up peril we do use Venting Shriek as our combat ability. But the real deal are the up to 6 stacks of soulblaze which we apply to every enemy in a huge cone shaped area in front of us.
Soulblaze focused passives such as these two are the icing on our Spellsword's cake.
Being a melee Psyker we are crit focused after all. Even though we don't use Scrier's Gaze we stack a quite respectable crit chance regardless.
Our Beloved Force Sword
Ah... yeah... a weapon suitable to our unparalloled minds!
The new Force Greatsword is a jack of all trades generalist weapon. It can do everything but excels at nothing. So its perfect for our aim to melee as much as we can. It's weapon special is an actual spell - fits the tone of our build very well and is fun to use.
The combination of Shred/Blazing Spirit makes sure that each strike of ours has a respectable chance of setting stuff afire as well!
After all, heretics are nothing but BUGS BENEATH OUR HEELS!
Full Build
This is what being an arcane empowered melee maniac looks like under the hood. Feel free to adapt here and there to your liking.
Curio And Gun
Whenever we have to use ranged weaponary, it is mainly to get rid of far away hard to reach specials - such as snipers / bombers as well as counterfire gunners/shooters here and there.
Hence why I prefer this gun:
Synergises very well with our focus on crits, fast and mobile. Respectable damage and okay ammo economy. It's push is a little spell - adds some flair. If you prefer any other gun or even the odd voidstrike staff - all power to you!
Curio wise I like to stack 3 of these:
All three perks are consistently useful. Stacking toughness beats health or wound blessings imho. But once again, I'm not here to tell you you are not allowed to take a different approach.
This Is A Battlemage, I Swear!
Unfortunately, this is not true:
