Redacted Penance: Warp Battery

Redacted Penance: Warp Battery

Introduction

Warp Battery is probably one of the most dreaded penances by Psykers in Darktide. It does require some planning on your end, and possibly a team that actively cooperates with you. However, it's quite doable when you know exactly what you're doing.

You will need to keep your Warp Charges at maximum (either 4 or 6, depending on what talents you take) for 300 seconds (5 minutes). Note that this is 300 seconds consecutively. If you drop below max charges at any point, the timer will reset.

First things first. This penance can only be completed if you take the Warp Siphon keystone on the bottom left side of the Talents tree. Warp Charges are regularly awarded for killing elites and specialists, but grabbing Psychic Vampire grants you a 4% chance of generating a Warp Charge whenever you or allies in coherency kill an enemy of any kind. This already gives us an idea. There is another talent, In Fire Reborn, which grants you a 10% chance of gaining a Warp Charge when an enemy affected by Soulblaze dies. These two talents are mutually exclusive, so I suggest picking Psychic Vampire. It will come in handy when your teammates start blasting anything they see.

Here is my Talents tree as I used it to complete this penance. It's probably not optimal, but it works well enough:

Assuming we play with random Rejects found in the Mourningstar, we'll want to be able to kill as many enemies as fast as possible. This rules out Brain Rupture as it takes quite some time to use and it doesn't guarantee a one-hit kill every single time. Instead, we'll take Assail which can easily chew through hordes and also deals decent damage to elites and specialists. This will be our secret weapon to avoid being overwhelmed.

Then, we'll need a ranged weapon. This is very important. We need the Big Iron. Get yourself a Zarona pattern revolver, pay Hadron a visit and get a +10% damage against Elites blessing on that thing. Also, for good measure, I added a +25% damage against Flak Armoured. Just in case.

Next we'll pick any melee weapon. If we do things right, this will be relatively superfluous. I picked a random one from my inventory (which also happened to be the only one I had).

Strategy And Execution

Warp Charges last 25 seconds each and stack 4 or 6 times, and we'll likely get most of them by killing Elites ourselves; Psychic Vampire can grant us a charge regardless of which enemy is killed or by whom it's killed, but the low trigger chance means we can't rely on it. So we need to get kills, fast. Ideally, we want to be slightly ahead of our teammates most of the time. We also want to have a very crowded map with as few dull moments as possible. Remember: every time you enter an elevator or a loading door and your teammates are lagging behind, that's a Warp Charge we might lose!

I chose the map Smelter Complex HL-17-36, Malice difficulty, with the Shock Gauntlet modifier. High Intensity is also good if you feel confident you can do it and your teammates won't get stuck in a horde, but it's not really necessary.

Smelter Complex HL-17-36 initially seemed like a poor choice when I noticed there was an elevator ride about one third of the way in. In fact, even with good timing, you'll likely lose a charge there. But right after that you'll get a decent amount of elites, and they're all well spaced.

Our trusty revolver will likely kill all Scab Flamers, Scab Gunners, Scab Bombers, Dreg Gunners, Tox Flamers and Poxbursters with one shot. Mutants, Ragers, and Scab Maulers might need a double tap. Remember when I said we want to be ahead of our teammates? Being slightly ahead means we get to wait between shots. We have more time to line up a shot, or we can afford a reload before someone else is there to steal our kill.

Time your kills right and you'll be able to keep the Charges at maximum level even when the game spawns relatively fewer elites. Now go, Rejects. It's your time to shine.
