How To Win With The Lost
So here's the deal. you're playing The Legend Of Bumbo by Edmund McMillan and James Interactive. Awesome. But wait, they added a new character and it's hard as hell! Oh no! How will you overcome this challenge? Well, fear not, because this little guy is actually one of the strongest characters in the game.
First, you'll notice a couple things. For one, his damage is balls. One puzzle damage and one spell damage. Just awful. He also starts with three moves, which is pretty good but not quite enough to make up for the bad damage. The unique thing about the character, though, (aside from dying in two hits,) is the weird little ghost tiles on the puzzle board. It's unclear what these do at first, but upon playing around with them you'll discover that they add +1 charge to all your active items. This is important, because he also starts with The Negative, which is a very powerful active item with a charge of 1 room, and it lets you deal 1 damage to every enemy in a column.
Ok, cool. Great. Incredible. But he still seems pretty bad. And he is, for a little bit. You'll probably struggle to make it past the first chapter, because you have to deal with how bad your damage is. Here's a short rundown of how you get past the first chapter: Always poop. Try to get big bone and teeth combos. Use the dead dove to your advantage.
But when you make it past the basement, the whole world is your oyster. Unlike most characters, the stat wheel is not the best thing to spend your money on in the shop. Head on over to Jimbo's needle emporium on the right and take a gander at his wares. There are two things you will want to get your grubby hands on:
1. Spell Hurt More
2. Spell Charge Less
Why are these so good? Well, the thing about the negative is that it starts good, but you can make it so much better. Even dealing 2 damage to all the enemies in a column is way better than dealing 1 damage. But the big one you want is Spell Cost Less, because when you use it on the negative its charge goes down from 1 to 0. What does this mean? It means you can use it once at the start of each turn. This makes the item ungodly overpowered and way better than something like Brimstone. Once you get a couple extra damage on the negative and take its spell cost down to 0, you've already won.
What if the needle seller isn't selling his strongest needles? That's okay, just take a spin on the stat wheel and hope you get puzzle or spell damage up. If you get a luck upgrade, just restart the run. An extra move is decent, but won't carry you past the 2nd chapter.
That's really all you need to know to win. Have fun injecting yourselves with needles.
