v1.4.2c Farm Guide for Story Mode (All difficulties)

Introduction & Why It's Important To Farm These Areas

In this guide, I will be listing off locations that are easy to farm for any character so you can have an easier time collecting Uniques, Set Items, or just good rares to plow through the second half of the game where it can spike in difficulty for most underdeveloped characters.

I've read several walk-through guides on Steam and none of them mention the areas I'm about to list as being places to farm, so it's either assumed that players will know to do this or they didn't farm these locations either.

The game gets much easier with several Set item...sets, and they usually drop once per major boss in the Story Campaign, but sometimes they won't and will prevent most players from utilizing overpowered Set Items like the RavenScar for Hunter or the Incantus/Occultus gear for Thaumaturge. Arcane Mechanic doesn't rely on Set Items as much, depending on the type of build being used. But still, there are several classless Set Items that help every class and can be essential to spend 1-2 hours farming the following locations so you can easily complete some of the harder achievements as well as enjoying the game without having to dance around opponents every fight in fear of death.

This isn't as efficient to do in multiplayer due to needing to reset game sessions. Doing so causes the second player's portal to no longer exist, so it slows down on farming. Also, you must enable respawns after ending a game session in order for this to work. It is initially off as a default setting in the Options Menu.

Croakwood - Werewolf Den (Level 8-11) Rares And Set Items

Warning: You must have defeated Gruumsh first before exploiting this. I consider it more of an exploit considering you don't have to fight anyone to get easy and awesome gear for levels 9-11.

Go to Croakwood and make your way to the Wolf Den north of the Ink Gate in Croakwood. If you decided to call a truce with Gruumsh in the Story, the wolves there will always be friendly and the treasure chest you can open near Gruumsh will be able to open again. In there will be a chance of getting every Set Item up to lv 11 as well as rares and about 600 gold. I cannot confirm if Magic Find increases how many rares come out of this chest or the frequency of Set Items. I've never had Unique Items drop from this chest. On Average you'll get a random Set Item capped at level 11, 3 rares around lv 8-11 and 600 gold.

Next, use Town Portal to exit the area and then end the game session. Resume Story and use the Ink Gate in town. At the very top of the portal selection, the last portal you used should be available, which was the Wolf Den portal. Use the teleport and you'll be able to repeat the collection process without having to travel through some monsters to get there. There are two Magic Monster packs along the path to the Wolf Den from the Croakwood Ink Gate, so it is a valid option of raising Reputation and Exp while you farm that treasure chest.

Note if you choose to slay Gruumsh, you'll still get friendly wolves when you come back, but when Chapter 2 starts, they'll be enemies.

Rookery - Old Tunnels Boss Fight, Mastermind Genius (lv16-22) Rares, Sets, Uniques

The Rookery is available in Chapter 2, at around level 16. This boss fight is required to continue the story, but something important to mention, it is one of the few bosses that can respawn after ending a game session. Even better, the boss known as Mastermind Genius, can drop Uniques as well as Set Items and Rares up to level 22. The photo above is where the Tunnels are located.

Here is the boss. After defeating Genius, use Town Portal at a safe area, preferably near the descending stairs on the left side of the boss room map. Sell items .etc, then exit the game session and use the Ink Gate to teleport back for quick farming. The rest of the RavenScar armor as well as the finishing pieces of Borislav, Incantus and Occult Set Items can be found on this boss, giving you the tools to easily beat the final boss without needing to destroy any of his towers that support him.

There is a tough fight with rats along the way to Old Tunnels with a lot of ranged rats that can make it difficult to safely walk back every time you reset the game for monsters to respawn. I recommend just using the portal trick since the monsters in the tunnel are mostly poison with slow projectiles that can be dodged. Very easy to farm for Reputation as well and will give the experience needed to equip some of the good gear the boss drops.

Industrial Port (Pier 13) - Elite Behemoth (lv 18-23) Rares, Sets, Uniques

Similar to Mastermind Genius, Elite Behemoth is a boss the players fight before needing to return back to the Secret Lair and defend it in the Tower Defense segment. This boss is alone if you come back and provides roughly the same benefits as Genius (around lv 22 gear). It can be easier to farm for other players and drop Set Items plus Uniques, so consider doing this as well. The behemoth is located on the far left of the map, on the top floor which is up three flights of stairs. 8 Pale Ones often spawn to the left corner where the Behemoth spawns, so it may be more useful to you if wanting to farm for Undead kills as you do this.

Just do the same thing of Town Portal next the boss and exit game session, then resume story and portal back.

Rooftop Mayhem - 3 Treasure Chests And 8 Magic Monsters (lv 26-30)

v1.4.2c Farm Guide for Story Mode (All difficulties) image 24

This is not truly an easy fight, but it can be if you already did some farming for the Set Items or can do about 12k damage quickly. The 8 magic monsters are a set of helicopters and gargoyles with about 12k hp each on Heroic (I'm not sure about the other settings). They drop level 26-30 equipment but don't have the same drop rate as the previous bosses mentioned, so high Magic Find is a must to get anything good in a short amount of time. Same applies to the three treasure chests right next to the Magic Monsters.

I'm mentioning this area because it takes about 5 seconds to reach them via the Ink Gate, so you can easily do this in multiplayer since you don't need to use the Town Portal trick to quickly get back to monsters you want.

Closing

Those locations were the easy areas I noticed that can be farmed for loot. Hope this was of help for anyone enjoying Van Helsing 1. I haven't played Final Cut yet and I'm working my way through the seperated chapters before seeing how they mashed it all together with the other classes and revamped skill trees, so I don't know if any of this is applicable to the complete version of the game.

Have a good day.
