Jadwiga's Legacy Scenario Guide

Outline

Jadwiga's Legacy Scenario Guide image 1

In this scenario you play as one of three Polish civs/leaders fending off wave after wave of barbarian invaders - Teutonic Knights, Turks, Russians, Swedes and The Mongols.

It's a perfect game if you love to turtle and play defensively!

The basic strategy is this: forward settle your Polish allies, using "culture bombs" to steal their resources (cos without luxuries they can't expand while giving you the amenities to do so). Also settling next to an ally gives you security to build improvements, infrastructure and trade.

Victory

To win this game all you have to do is score more than your allies. In Civ VI the easiest way to do that is with Empire. Just build more cities.

You have to simultaneously expand and build an army. Use the policy Feudal Contract to start off with. Chivalry after you research Mercenaries.

The Barbarians

As you are locked into an alliance with the other Polish civs you only ever war with barbarians (and city-states). But these aren't your ordinary barbarians.

Composed of several color-coded tribes (The Mongols, Turks, etc.) these guys spawn without regard for "fog busting" (a term referred to sentried scout preventing barbarian encampments spawning in the regular game) or even settling. So for example if you settle where The Turks historically invade Vienna and Poland, they will just spawn in your territory anyway.

So there is no point in this game chasing down barbarian scouts. They will come regardless. Instead hunker down and prepare. As a rule of thumb attack those tresspassing into your borders.

The policies Discipline and Logistics lend itself to this strategy.

The Winged Hussar is the perfect unit to push back invading barbarians, to settle a city or improve a strategic or luxury resource.

City Placement & Resource Management

Start with Colonisation and spam 4-6 settlers and forward settle your allies. That is place your city as close as possible so that you can "culture bomb" their luxuries. (Polish civs can claim tiles from other civs by building encampments and forts).

Also things to consider: security. Settling next to an ally gives you security as you have each others back so to speak. It means barbs won't attack you from at least one side.

Exploit "rough" terrain to fortify and defend against the barbs. Avoid removing forest & marsh. Instead exploit them. Lady of the Reeds is a useful pantheon to have if you do settle marsh.

Also avoid building farms unless it's in a secure location. Avoid improvements on bonus resources too. Barbs will just pillage them. Harvest resources instead. It's only a 60-turn game.
