Introduction
Playing in Savage Lands, you can have moments, when you think, that this game is too hard or too frustrating. For the first time, hardly anyone can survive until the next morning. Why? Merciless, brutal world who has waiting for your one mistake.
How to play, to survive? Here's a guide from player - for players :) I hope, it will be helpful.
I'm sorry if my English is imperfect - I tried to write the best I can.
What Dangers Is Waiting For You?
Cold - cold can kill you the same quickly, like the ravenous bear. Always accompanied our hero, and deadly power of cold increases when it snows, when blowing snowstorm, when we enter into the water and at night, when the last rays of the sun disappears on the horizon.
Hunger - Hunger increases when the hero runs, or doing something physical, like cutting trees or mining.
Enemies - wolves, skeletons and bears - these are just some enemies who will try to kill you. Meeting with them very often end not only wounds, but also bleeding and diseases.
Weather - weather in Savage Lands can be very fickle. Without any warning can appear snowstorm that freezes our hero to the bone and strongly reduces the scope of our vision. Less dangerous, but also perceptible is the falling snow.
Time of the day - While traveling during the day is relatively safe, at night there are new dangers. When the island begins to sink in the orange glow of the setting sun, some creatures wake up to life: heavily armed skeletons, plague wolves, and meeting them without proper equipment, can finish immediate death.
Beginning
At the beginning, you will land close to the beach. On the shore you can find basic items:
tattered bag - (bags serves to increase the space in your inventory, and to do this function, they must be always placed in the first eight boxes of your inventory (later, I will write more about bags)) and in it: 3 pieces of meat, 2 apples, 2 nuts.
12 pieces of shrets cloth
2 flints
basic clothing
crude axe
The first step you should do is put some of these things to your quick access bar. You must always keep weapon at the ready, as well as food. When you eating baked meat, it regenerates your Cold, Health and Hunger. NOTE: apples and berries do not provide heat - but nuts, yes.
Opening the crafting menu button (K), you'll find the icon presents a leather bag (third from left).
Here you can craft torches, bags (later, you will have more recipes), bandages and more.
Below you will find the position "Basic bandages." When you click on it, you will see in the middle a possibility to create that object. If you have all the ingredients, inscription (in this case, Basic bandages) will be white, and in the middle you will see highlighted word "CRAFT". Exceptions are items that require a forge (it's any object that has a wood in the recipes) - then, despite you have all the ingredients, word "Craft" is not highlighted, until you stand at the forge.
Create 3 pieces of the bandage and put it on the quick access bar.
At this stage, your crafting window is very poor, but do not worry - the recipes will appear as soon as you get further components and objects.
First Day
Look around you. You should see lying on the ground stones, flint and wood and plant "Frost fern". All objects that can be raised, shimmers from time to time on white.
At the moment, you have very little space in your inventory, so I advise you to collect only stones (minimum 6 units) and flints (5 pieces), ignoring for the moment everything else, including wood. Why? Wood can be obtained from each tree, and one piece of wood occupies one slot, which at the moment is a waste of space.
Do not make fireplace on the beach, or do not build a house, even a lento. You don't find here any animals, and when sun go down, dangerous enemies will be prowl on the beach.
At this point, you have two paths to choose:
You can walk along the coast in direction where you want, and have hope that you will find a shelter or other structure from some residents, or take a chance and go straight into the wilderness.
When you go along the sea, you have the possibility (but not guarantee) that maybe you will find stones, flint and some structures, where is usually a random weapon or tool and / or cloth and food. On the beach, you have very, very small chance to meet animals and without them you don't be able to obtain food and materials for crafting, but during the day, the beach is the safest place.
1.
If you started game here:
turn your back to the sea and go to the left along the sea. You will find abandoned building and two lentos. Around them, you will find a random weapon or a tool and/or food, stone, flint, cloth.
2
But, if you started game here:
turn your back to the sea and go to the left along the sea. You will find lento and extinguished fireplace. Take a look around and try to find a stone, flint, weapon or a tool and food.
Then, if you standing that you have sea behind your back and lento in front of you, go ahead in a straight line - you will find the village where is the forge, and in a background rises one of the dragon towers.
3
If you started game here:
turn your back to the sea and go to the right along the sea. You will find abandoned building and around him, you will find a random weapon or a tool and/or food, stone, flint, cloth.
Then, if you keep walking to the right (very long walk), you discover village quite far from the sea.
BUT, if you go from the spawn point to the left along the sea, you will find lento and extinguished fireplace.
If you have good visibility, you will see in a background one of the dragon towers.
Then, if you keep walking to the left, you will see crashed/broken boat and very characteristic log based on a rock:
Keep going, until you see lento and extinguished fireplace.
This is the same place from the point "2".
If you standing that you have sea behind your back and lento in front of you, go ahead in a straight line - you will find the village where is the forge, and in a background rises one of the dragon towers.

If you started game here:
turn your back to the sea and go to the right along the sea. You will find abandoned building (the same, like in point "1") and around him, you will find a random weapon or a tool and/or food, stone, flint, cloth.
Then, if you keep walking to the right, you will discover crashed/broken boat (the same, like in point "1") :
Keep going, util you see lento and extinguished fireplace.
BUT if you go from spawn point to the left along the sea, you will discover one of the villages with the forge. It's very hard to explain, where she is, so I made a movie - not beautiful :) but it shows where the village lies.

"Finally" create a very good map, with spawn points and several locations:

According to this map, his spawn point 1 is my “3”, his 2 is my “2”, his 3 is my “1”, his 4 is my "4"
"DrkRaven" and "darkreaper_44" create great map with whole world:

Going into the wilderness, you can quickly get food, materials for crafting, but you risk, that you meet a difficult enemy, or even an entire group (eg. Wolves).
Priorities
Here's how it should look like your list of priorities:
Weapons and tools
Food
Crafting materials
Campfire
Shelter
All these points must be accomplished, if you want survive the first day. While the day, try to traverse the map and watch for an opportunity to accomplish the conditions of the list.
Weapons and tools - it will be a hammers and a hatchets. They are both weapon and a tool. Using hatchet, you can cut trees and using hammer, you can gather ore, stones and flints from the rocks - the large and the small rocks. Basic weapona and tools can be found at the abandoned structures (stone house, lento) and in the village. They can also create your own, if you have the right amount of wood, sinew and stone.
Food - It will be a deer meat, wolf meat, boar meat, bear meet and also apple, nuts and blueberries. There is also a meat called "Cured meat", which can't be created, but can be found and is fully edible. If you find "Rotting meat" or "Decayed Flesh", don't try to eat them - they are poisonous.
Crafting materials - world of SL is full of ingredients, but the most important of them are: sinew, strong sinew and leather hide. Sinew and strong sinew can be found in the bodies of dead animals (number of meat and sinew is random), leather hide - you must kill a deer. From leather hide you can make 3 pieces of sinew, and turn 3 sinew in 1 strong sinew. Strong sinew and sinew are needed to practically everything - from the stone axe, to the ebon steel plated chestguard.
Campfire - number 6, 3 and 2 will be very often present in your mind, because it 6 stones, 3 pieces of wood and 2 flints are needed to create campfire. It gives you heat and you can bake the meat.
Now, you can re-lit campfire - to do that, just add 1 flint and 3 logs (you need to have these items in your inventory and press "E", when you will be near campfire). You can re-lit any extinguished campfire.
If you build campfire in the evening, you will need to re-lit it 2 times, to safely survive all night (exactly: 8 pieces of wood / for the night (campfire 3 + re-lit 3 + re-lit 2)).
Option of re-lit is possible only, when the fire goes out completely. Only then, you can add wood and flint.
Shelter - If you were able to discover one of several villages, you can hide in one of the buildings. Enemies can not enter there, even if the door is open. Putting fire quite close to the wall of the building, can ensure you the warmth.
If you didn't find the village, or you didn't build a home, just look around and try to find a high rock, on which you can climb. Place the campfire as close as possible to be able to stand on a rock, and be near the campfire. Enemies can't climb on rocks, but if rock is too low, they will reach you, using weapon, like sword.
Some Advice
Good Set For The Start Is Crafted Chain Tunic, Hardened Leather Boots, Metal Faceguard And Leather Arm Guards.
Hunting - Although deer are harmless creatures that provide meat and skin, on the beginning, they can be hard to kill. It because they are very skittish, fast, and to get them to knock down, you have to hit 4 times (female deer) using a stone axe, or stone hammer. By going after them its very easy to overlook a pack of wolves, or a bear, who will kill you in an instant.
On the beginning, choose single wolf's. In their bodies, you will find meat, skin and sinew or strong sinew (random number).
However, if you really want hunt a deer, you must come to him from the side. Being at a distance of about 5 - 7 meters, you must start running. Quickly stand before him, hit him, and then quickly react when he bounce to the side and hit him second time. Before deer run away, you will have a chance to hit him 3 time. Good weapon, like skull mace, knocks down female deer by 1 hit (male deer needs 2 hits), slightly weaker - stone sword - 2 hits.
Shelter - Build your home in a place where you see around deer, wild boars or wolves. I recommend building a "Wooden shack" because it doesn't require a large amount of materials, and you can very easily go to the roof and observe from there nearby surroundings. If you put near the campfire, then you can sit on the roof, and be at the same time warming up by the fire. You will not even feel terrible snow storm at midnight.
Recipes - The recipes appear themselves as soon as you find the right component. Eg. When you find human bones, you will automatically appear recipe for the dust from the bones.
Pike of ressurection - this is your spawn point. You can build an infinite number of pikes, and the last activate will be your last spawn point. To activate, come very close and click on the pike the "E".
Try to put it as soon as possible.
Dragon - If you see a flying dragon and you go after him, he will lead you to his tower. In the game there are 3 dragon towers, and one of them is near the village with the forge.
Inventory - Until you don't find a home or you don't built a home, try to take only that, what you most needed: weapons, armor, tools, meat, leather, sinew, strong sinew, stone and flint. As you progress through the game, you'll be able to create bags that will increase space in your inventory. Once you have your house, throw everything on the ground, everything, you don't need to carry: excess of leather, ore, animal bones, etc. - It will protect you in the event of death. In single player mode, these items do not disappear even when you quit the game.
Use your resources wisely - assuming that your health is on 60 %, hunger on 90 % and cold on 90%, don't eat baked meat to obtain 100% in that 3 stats. Better way is wait, until your hunger and cold doesn't drop to a similar level as health and then eat, to raise all stats, to achieve the same level of hunger, cold and health. Of course, if you're going to fight with some enemies, you should renew your health, by eating a food, but if you don't - save food.
Orientation - It's possible to create a compass and he help in orientation. You can also keep track of the dragon, to discover one of the three towers. However, the dragon does not fly over large areas, and the map is not small, so only sometimes you will have the chance to track a dragon.
High rocks are often placed near important locations - pay attention to them.
Walking along the beach, you will come across a very deep trenches in the ground, which lead into the island - the shallower not always lead us somewhere, but the ones that are very deep, can show us some important location.
For a trail, you may use any object to build (button J). This can be a fireplace, or better yet lento. When you are walking, just put object from time to time (not build, only "put" his plan on the ground), and its yellow-green color make the way.
Such an object can be seen from a great distance, and if you lost, he can help you get back home.
When make a fireplace ?- Ideally, when you have to: when you are in a situation where you have a low body temperature, or night, snowstorm get you, or you are starving and carrying a raw meat. Remember, if you made campfire, think about the ingredients for the next.
Weapons and tools - Weapons and tools wear out quickly, so try to carry at least 2 items, and better yet, if you are carrying weapon (eg. A sword or mace), an axe or hatchet to cut down trees and hammer to raise the ore.
Armor - Each armor is consists of several elements: helmet, breastplate, boots and arm guards or gloves.
On the beginning, try to make items that don't contain exactly the same ingredients, like crafted chain tunic and hardened leather boots:
Looting - When you defeat an enemy or animal, first take a look around, does anything else don't try to attack you. Then take what is yours, but do it quickly, and organize your inventory only in a safe places.
Villages - Items in the villages are renewed once a day, and what appears is random. In the same cabin, you will find rotten meat, and a day later, good shoes.
Mining - The best situation is when you have the opportunity to climb on the rock. On the rock, you are safe, because enemies can't climb on rocks or roofs. This is the safest way to extract the ore. If your house is near the sea, try mining along the beach - you don't get lost so easily.
Night and day - Try to spend the day as the most productive: collect ore, meat and skin, look for villages and dragon towers. Night, which takes in the game about 35 real minutes, spend on crafting and organize your inventory. If you live in a good location, you can go to the night hunting, or cut some trees.
Bags And Chests
On the start, your inventory is very small. You can create bags to enlarge your inventory or create chests, which can be placed on the ground and treated as luggage.
Bags must be placed in the first eight slots of inventory.
After you craft the chest (pine strong box ) chest should be placed under the first eight slots of inventory, or placed into quick access bar. Throw chest away where you want, eg. In the house on the ground.
List of bags and chests:
Torn rucksack - Bag. Give 4 slots in inventory.
Tattered bag - Bag. Give 4 slots in inventory.
Boars tusk pouch - Bag. Give 6 slots in inventory.
Flesh Wrapped Bag - Bag. Give 8 slots in inventory.
Turlined backpack - Bag. Give 10 slots in inventory.
Strong leather backpack - Bag. Give 15 slots in inventory (but she needs a lot of strong sinew, much more, than turlined backpack, so I always craft only turlined backpacks).
Pine strong box - Chest. Give 15 slots.
Bleeding, Hunger, Cold And Disease
Bleeding - bleeding may occur even after one hit from the enemy. Sometimes, if the bleeding is serious, one basic bandage is not enough - you need use two and sometimes even three.
However, bandage stop the bleeding, but improved bandage (from Frost Fern) also renews our health.
The easiest way to regenerate our health is eating roasted meat. He give us 15 % of health, and apple, nuts and bluebarrys 8 %.
If you infect a disease or poison, (eating for example rotten meat) you should wait out this time, renews health by eating a food.
Cold - To fight with cold, stay near the fire and eat roasted meat or nuts. To survive the all night, you need re-lit campfire 2 times, in assuming, that you light fire in the evening (together 8 pieces of wood).
Hunger - Wherever you go, try to have with you 5 pieces of roasted meat, or better - 10 pieces.
To survive the all night without leaving a safe hiding place, you need about 8 pieces of roasted meat on the assumption that you keep hunger levels at about 70%.
Remember: The more you run, the more you fight, the faster your hunger level drops.

About Weapons And Tools
It's not necessary to write about all weapons, because all information is available in journal, so I will write only some advice:
All stone axes are good only as a tool to cut down trees. As soon as possible, find better weapons or craft it. I remind, that stone axe or stone hammer can kill a female deer after 4 hits.
Speaking of hammers, do whatever you can to have a heavy stone hammer.
When you obtain ore or stone by using stone hammer or crude stone hammer, you need to hit large rock 10 times until you get one random lump (stone, flint or ore). Heavy stone hammer gives you lump after 4 hits - large rock -, and from medium rocks, after 3 hits. It's true, that he is very slow, but this is the best tool for mining.
Stone sword is good weapon for the start; for the hunting (deer dies after 2 hits), but when you fighting with the normal skeleton, you need 7 hits, to beat him.
Skull mace it's a great, fast weapon (wolf dies after 2 hits; normal skeleton after 3), and you can have it very quickly. Just visit any village and find human bone and skull. They respawn once a day and they are always lie on the ground near a pile of bones. The most difficult component is high quality metal, but half day of minning will give you that ore.
Oak skull smasher it's very good weapon, which doesn't requires a forge. It is a little bit slower then skull mace, but it can be a next step after stone sword and before skull mace.
Reckless edge looks inconspicuous, but it is just as good as the skull mace, and it is a little bit faster. Require a lot of ingredients, but it is worth it.
And the last weapon which I want to describe it's savage steel cleaver.
This weapon has a very good damage, but it is also terribly slow. Completely unsuitable for fight with tough opponents - too slow.
BTW: Last patch give us possibility to use some weapons like tools. In my opinion, it's not worth to use a good weapon to cutting trees (savage steel cleaver) or mining (skull mace) - unless you have too many ore :)
Creatures
In game, you can met the following creatures:
Forest Stalker (Wolf) - wolves have white, black, brown or grey fur. A single wolf is not a danger, but a herd, yes. They roam the island and often howl to other wolfs. After killing a wolf, you get a random amount of meat, 1 piece of fur, sometimes 1 piece of sinew, 1 piece of animal bone and 1 piece of strong sinew. Some of them are weaker and can be kill by 3 hits from stone axe, but most require more than 7 hits.
Bear - bears are very dangerous opponents. Just two hits can kill you. At the mouths they are wear some kind of mask from antlers.
Wild boars - most frequently occur in groups, but you may also find a single animal. He leave a random amount of meat, sometimes sinew, strong sinew and boar tusk.
Defiled Skeletons- They are very slow, but they can infect you disease. Most of them leave human skull, bone dust, cloth shreeds and rotten flesh. You can met them during the day and in night, in villages and in the forest.
Tortured Skeleton (Armored skeleton) - after defeating them, we can get a human skull, human bones and sometimes a smaller piece of armor, for example boots or bracers. They can be found anywhere on the evening of the world. Burned armored skeleton can be found in a village.
Undead Fury - dangerous and fast opponent, which is characterized by red, glowing eyes and heavy armor. You can meet him in the evening, anywhere in the world. Sometimes, he leaves random armor and frequently leaves the stone sword.
Plague wolf / Lycor / Dire wolf - The beast, which is fast and a lot more dangerous than a wolf. She can infect disease. Usually occurs in the evening. It is characterized by glowing eyes, and after killing you can obtain decaying meat and skull, which after dropping looks like the skin with holes (bug). There is no information yet, to how this components can be used.
Forest Giants - These creatures are very rare and usually, you can meet them very far away from the spawn points. I met my first Giant between the Dragon Tower and the Large Stone Village (closer to the tower).
They don't move, unless you come very close - then Giant attacks and he does not have to hit exactly in you , to hurt you, because he hits at earth and everything in the area takes the damage.
Character without armor dies after one hit (at best, will survive with 9 life points), and character with crafted chain tunic will survive (at best) with 51 life points.
Fortunately, the Giants are very slow.
Deer - harmless animal valuable because of the skin. Deer are all over the map, usually the number 2, and deer with the antlers roam the world most as the loners. After killing, we can obtain a random amount of meat, leather hide, and sometimes strong sinew and sinew.
Last Day
Leave At Home EVERYTHING What You Don't Have To Carry It With You!
Valar morghulis - everyone must die.
Death happens in this game often and unexpectedly. If you died, you can respawn after 10 seconds. If you created "pike of ressurection" you will respawn just right next to him (if he activated, he glow on blue). However, if you didn't created pike of ressurection, you will be able to respawn in one of the starting points on the map.
Your character will have absolutely nothing in pocket, but he will remember all the recipes that he have learned before death.
You can also choose to create a new character and load the old world, and then everything what you build, everything what you gather will still serve you.
In my experience it is good to create a "backup" inventory - what does it mean?
Food - leave in your shelter at least 15 pieces of roasted meat - it will help you on the first day of a new life.
Create a backup of weapons and tools
Create a backup of armor
Gather some wolf fur - wolves are never here when you needed them :) and from their fur we can create bags increase our inventory.
Collect leather hide - 6 pieces and some sinews. This is the basic ingredient for many recipes.
And remember:
Video
I made a movie promoting my guide. I was curious, how it will look like and here it is! My first video :)
