Notice Board
The game has reached v1.0! Yay! Working on updating this guide as I play through the new content!Welcome to my Guide! - Hey there! Thanks for checking out my guide - its still a work in progress but the aim is to eventually fully cover every aspect of this game. I put a lot of work into these guides with custom graphics and lots of in-game research, so if you enjoy it or find it useful, rating the guide would be much appreciated :D ! Either way, thanks for checking it out, and I hope it helps you out on your journey. If there's something missing from the guide that you'd like to see specifically, please let me know by leaving a comment.
Naming Conventions - As of the v1.0 release, all inventory-based items now have names and descriptions and the guide will be updated to appropriately reflect this, replacing the placeholder names I'd given things previously. Officially unnamed things (like the enemy ghosts, "wraiths" as I refer to them) I'll continue to use my placeholder nicknames.
Controls - This guide has been written playing the game with a Keyboard and Mouse, and as such all of the controls listed within will be the default Keyboard and Mouse prompts, though the game itself still has full controller support.
Previous Versions - Some images and screenshots used in the guide will be taken from previous versions of the game, and will remain so until the game's "full" release out of early access where I will go back through and replace them all. Exceptions to this would be if the screenshots is now entirely incorrect, the only changes you should notice should be graphical quality, thanks to the recent filters and graphical improvements that were added.
Understanding The Mechanics
In Praey for the Gods you control your character in a fairly standard and recognisable way, using the [W][A][S][D] keys to move around, [SHIFT] to sprint and [SPACE] to jump. You can use equipped items with [LMB] and climb on objects, enemies or the environment using [RMB]. To check or change your keybindings, go to Settings -> Keyboard Controls on the main or pause menu.
When you start a New Game, you will be able to select from four different difficulties, Easy, Normal, Hard and Legendary. The way difficulty affects your game is as follows:
- The amount of damage done by enemies is decreased on Easy, and Increased on both Hard and Legendary difficulties
- Taking damage from the cold will reduce your health to near-death but not kill you on both Easy and Normal, but is capable of completely depleting your health and killing you on Hard and Legendary
- Whilst swimming, the player will drown if you run out of stamina on Hard and Legendary difficulties, but will be fine on Easy and Normal
- Having extremely low health will cause it to regenerate a small amount on Easy and Normal, but wont on Hard and Legendary
There are also two modes to choose from that affect the gameplay in terms of your resistances in the game, these are Boost Mode, and Survival Mode. Survival Mode is what the game launched with, whilst Boost Mode was added for people that aren't interested in managing the survival aspects of the game as much, such as Hunger, Exhaustion and Cold.
- In Survival Mode the state of your Hunger and Exhaustion meters will both positively and negatively impact your rate of Stamina Regeneration, on Boost Mode you will only gain positive effects, and neglecting the meters will not negatively impact your abilities.
- In Survival Mode, Cold Resistance will deplete over time both in and out of storms, and requires a source of heat to regenerate and will not do so automatically. In Boost Mode, it will only deplete whilst in a storm or extreme cold, such as bodies of water, and will slowly regenerate whilst outside of these areas.
When you are hit with heavy damage, your character will often be knocked down into a "ragdolled" state, with the amount of damage impacting how long you'll be stuck in this state. You can mash the Dodge/Sprint keys to stand up faster and avoid further damage.
When it comes to natural or man-made surfaces, you can climb on most in the game, with notable exceptions being gold materials and solid blue ice - generally the best places to climb are indicated with dark colours of rock, both bricked and natural. You can climb in any direction, though climbing or just hanging onto the side of a structure will continually use up some of your stamina. You can also press [SPACE] to jump in any direction whilst climbing, this method of movement is faster, and can cross gaps of unclimbable surface, but it uses more stamina than just climbing slowly.
You will also be climbing on the game's bosses and minibosses throughout the game, and these work pretty much identically to regular surfaces, though you'll only be able to climb on surfaces covered in hair, fur or feathers, with bare or smooth looking surfaces being unclimbable. Whilst climbing on the bosses, they can attempt to throw you off by shaking, during which a prompt indicating the [RMB] will appear on screen, which you'll need to tap by default for the duration (though this can be changed in the settings to holding [RMB], which I find much more comfortable). Some bosses will perform these disruptive movements after you have just attacked one of their sigil's, which I'll describe next.
Bosses can not be damaged like any normal enemy, and your Melee Weapons will not be able to inflict any direct damage to them. Instead, you will have to locate "Sigils" that can be found all over their bodies. These can be interacted with as you climb on them to "attack", each Sigil needs to be attacked three times, some bosses will attempt to throw you off of them with each attack, rapidly draining your stamina as they thrash about (this is talked about more in the previous paragraphs on Climbing). When you fully complete a Sigil, you a small amount of Stamina will be restored as well as a small boost to your resistances. Sigils can also be found occasionally in the environment and are used to interact with various environmental puzzles (one of these is used in the tutorial area to open a big door for example).
Survival Skills
This section of the guide covers everything to do with keeping yourself alive in this frozen land. From managing your player character's stats and health to crafting equipment and interacting with the environment.
Two of the most important things to be aware of whilst playing the game is your character's Health and Stamina gauges. Your Health is represented with the red circle that follows your character around, which will lower as you take damage. If it is depleted fully, you will die and restart from the last Auto Save or Manual Save. Your Stamina is represented by the white circle around the Health gauge, and will deplete when you are either climbing, sprinting or using the Sail Cloth. Your Stamina usage rate and regeneration is also affected by how full your hunger and sleep gauges are. Depending on your Resistances; which are covered in the next section, you may receive various bonuses to your Stamina Regeneration wait and rate. Small arrow icons next to the Health and Stamina gauges indicate a boost to your rate of Stamina Regeneration. Whilst having + icons there indicates a decrease to the amount of wait time before your Stamina begins to regenerate.
You can collect Golden Totems throughout the world, and when you discover 3 of these you will be prompted to upgrade either your Health or your Stamina, you can upgrade these up to double their initial levels.
Other than your Health and Stamina, you also have three other "needs" to take note of, your Hunger Res, Exhaustion Res and Cold Res. All of these should be fairly self-explanatory:
- You maintain your Hunger Resistance by eating various items that you can collect or gather in the environment, the best items for regaining your Hunger Res is cooked animal meat. Your Stamina Regeneration will be faster the fuller your Hunger Res.
- You maintain your Exhaustion Resistance by sleeping on bed rolls, by either using ones found in the environment at camps or by using a Bed Roll item. Exhaustion Res dictates the wait time before your Stamina begins to regenerate. Your Exhaustion Res is depleted whilst performing exhausting actions such as Sprinting, Jumping and using the Sail Cloth.
- You maintain your Cold Resistance by standing near sources of heat, which will usually be campfires but can also be lit torches or braziers. Swimming in icy water and being out in the open in high winds will reduce your Cold Res, and it reduces over time anyway when you are away from a source of heat. Some enemies can also reduce your Cold Res with certain attacks. You can upgrade your clothing to increase your Cold Res. If your Cold Res is low, it will affect your ability to aim with Bows. If your Cold Res is completely reduced, you will begin to take Health damage from the frigid conditions, however on the Normal and Easy difficulties you wont be able to die from cold alone.
Using Your Equipment
This section covers the different types of equipment that you will be able to find and use throughout the world, and the mechanics that they use.
Melee Weapons are generally used to fight off the various smaller foes that you will encounter in the game, and won't have any effect on larger foes. They can also be used to break boxes to gather items, but your fists can do this too, and they don't have a durability to manage. Some Melee Weapons have multiple uses, the Torch can be lit on fire and carried as a source of warmth, whereas Axes can be used to chop down trees to collect Wood.
Bows are your only form of ranged attack and can be used to fight smaller foes in the environment, but they are also frequently used in environmental puzzles out in the world or even in boss fights. Hold [LMB] whilst a bow is equipped to ready an arrow and circular reticule will appear. Because the arrow will drop as it travels through the air, you will often need to aim a bit high to hit your target, using the bottom of the reticule is useful for this. The reticule will become larger and your shots less accurate if you are moving, so stand still whenever you are firing off a shot. Arrows can also be lit on fire to deal more damage or to assist in environmental puzzles/bosses, to do this, ready an arrow with [LMB] and stand near an open flame, the tip of your arrow should catch fire, and then you can fire it like any normal arrow.
Grappling Hooks can be used to quickly travel to any stone surface within your range, or to grapple to specifically placed grapple points. When you are aiming at something that you can grapple to, a spinning white reticule will appear. When aiming at a grapple point, this reticule will appear but it will be green instead of white. Grapple points can be found throughout the environment and also on bosses, allowing for a faster climb up them.
The Sail Cloth is collected soon after you defeat the first boss of the game, and can be used to glide over long distances or stop you from taking damage after a long fall. The Sail Cloth can be upgraded to perform better, and is used by pressing [SPACE] whilst airborne. Whilst using the Sail Cloth however, you will be using Stamina, so make sure to leave enough stamina to glide whatever distance is required if you are using it as a method of escape or traversal.
The various types of melee weapons, bows and grappling hooks can be found fairly commonly around the world, however in this frigid land, these tools are brittle and will break quite easily. These pieces of equipment all have limited durability and will break after hitting enemies or destructables a certain amount of times, with higher quality pieces of equipment having more durability than lower quality ones. The Sail Cloth, luckily, functions like an extra outfit piece - it has unlimited durability, so you can soar through the skies to your heart's content. The final impact of a weapon before it breaks has the added benefit of dealing a guaranteed critical hit, so you can use your near-broken weapons strategically to take down tougher foes such as the Champion min-boss or Elite Undead enemies. Alternatively, before a weapon breaks you can dismantle it to gain back some basic crafting materials - or you can use some crafting materials to repair the weapon and making it as good as new. The cost to repair is quite expensive so you should only really look to repair your most valuable pieces of equipment, typically those with a three star quality.
Outfit Pieces give you boosts to your resistances and other beneficial effects. You can equip 3 outfit pieces at a time, one each for the torso, legs and gloves. There are multiple sets of these that can be found in the game world and they are generally rewards for completing environmental puzzles or puzzle caves. Generally, these pieces will offer a trade-off, so you should consider which you want to wear and which to commit the resources to upgrade, as you wont be able to undo it.
Exploring The Environment
If you want to experience everything that Praey for the Gods has to offer, you'll want to be doing a lot of exploring in the freezing wilderness. There are all sorts of things to find and discover out here, and this section will give you an overview of what you can find out there.
Lost on your way to finding the next boss? If you don't want to use the guide map, then you can always just look to the skies! A T-shaped light in the sky will be shining bright, guiding you towards the next boss location. This also appears on your map as an animated circular cloud if you ever lose sight of the light - handy!
Around the world, you can find several stone structures which you will be able to kneel at and pray. These are Save Shrines, and will create an auto-save of your game when you interact with them, as well as being marked on your map with a small icon. They can be found both in the outside world, and within caves.
There are a huge number of caves that can be found around the world. The purpose of these caves will either be as a handy, warmer shortcut that could serve as a passageway to another area or a boss itself (these sometimes come with permanent bedrolls and lightable campfires and as such are very useful for rejuvenating your resistances and for safe cooking of food) , or as a "puzzle cave", which involves solving a puzzle of some kind to obtain the contents of a locked-away treasure chest, these will contain either Outfit Pieces or Rare Weapons, and are very desirable.
There are various kinds of collectables that can be found in the game. Golden Totems can be collected that you can use to boost your maximum stamina or health after collecting 3 of the. Lore Notes can be also be found around the environment and will give you some insight into the... you guessed it, lore, of the world. There's a whole chapter of the guide dedicated to these items, if you want to find out more, check out the "Collectables" chapter.
Enemies And Wildlife
You aren't alone with the giant creatures on this freezing land, and you share the environment with a small variety of natural wildlife and hostile, undead beings. This section lists all of the wildlife and enemies that you will encounter in your journey. Enemies will attack you once you trigger their "aggro", allowing them to detect you. There isn't a reliable way to avoid this other than knowing where they will spawn from, as enemies will either appear from the air or claw their way out of the ground to attack you if you venture near. Enemies can be slain to gather resources, as well as weapons and tools. In contrast to the undead enemies, the natural wildlife inhabit the wilderness here and serve no kind of threat to the player, but can be hunted down for food and resources.
Map Of The Wilderness (Outdated - OLD MAP)
< THIS MAP IS OUTDATED AS THE GAME HAS NEW MAP ARTWORK - THIS SECTION NEEDS UPDATING BUT SHOULD BE MOSTLY ACCURATE, THOUGH IS STILL INCOMPLETE >
Prologue - "Awakening"
"You play a lone hero sent to the edge of a dying world to discover the mystery behind a never-ending winter. Arriving with only the clothes on your back, you must survive the colossal dangers that you encounter."
After experiencing the game's introductory cutscene, you will find yourself on a frozen beach. This first section is fairly linear so you don't need to worry about getting lost, but there are several items and collectables that you will want to pick up. Keep moving forward and you'll reach a stone brick wall, climb up it using [RMB] and enter the cave entrance.
Once inside the cave, drop down to the left and you can collect the first of many Golden Idols, which can be used to upgrade your stamina gauge (you can check the collectibles section of the guide for more information on these). This room leads to a sigil raised off of the ground. Go up to it and interact with it using [LMB], "attacking" it, which is the same way you will damage the bosses in the game. Doing so three times will open the large door in front of you. Keep going through the cave and you'll reach a wide area that with several platforms that you'll need to traverse. Jump to the first and keep going over the platforms until you reach a gap that is far too long to jump. Pick up the glinting Grappling Hook off of the floor. You can use this to target the Grapple Point across the gap and travel to it. Just to the left of this is a shiny symbol painted on the wall, interact with it to fill out an area of your map, these can be found around the game's world, often in caves. Further on, there is another large gap and a section of stone wall which you can grapple over to.
Moving forwards, you'll reach a steep area covered in deep snow. Travel up the slope, making sure to collect the Berries from the bushes on your right. You'll eventually reach a clearing decorated with various rocks and stone structures, with several lit braziers around. Drop down from the elevated area and head to the right to collect Wood and Berries from the tree and bush respectively. Once you're done and ready to progress, head over to the lit area in the middle and climb up onto the suspiciously furry rock. Interact with the sigil, and "attack" it.
Once you interact with the sigil found here, you'll be launched straight into the first boss battle of the game.
Boss I - The Satyr
Found on the game's first "tutorial" island, this boss is unmissable at the end of a simple linear path through a cave and serves as an entry test for the rest of the game. It has three sigils, one on the Head, one on the Right Shoulder and one on its Back, as well as a grapple point on its Waist. No Items are required to beat this boss though a Grappling Hook makes things easier.
Once you've interacted with the sigil, a cutscene will play as the mound of earth and rock reveals itself to be the first boss of the game, The Satyr. When the cutscene finishes, it will be towering right over you. There are multiple ways to get onto this boss, but first its recommended you run around and explore the arena before you fight it. There are two braziers on the ground that each have a piece of Cooked Meat skewered on spikes just next to them, its worth collecting these as they can refill your hunger and health meters later on, there are also a couple of berry bushes that you can gather Berries from. Keep your eye on the boss however, as it can use a Frost Breath ranged attack which will rapidly deplete your warmth meter, though this shouldn't prove to be particularly dangerous.
There are two main ways to climb onto the boss from the ground, firstly by grabbing onto the fur on the back of its legs and climbing up to its waist, where there is a small area that you can stand in to regain your stamina, as well as more fur-covered areas that allow you to continue climbing up its back. Alternatively, you can run around behind the boss; he doesn't turn particularly quickly so this isn't very difficult, to find a grapple point on its waist, which you can use to skip the leg climb altogether. The best way to get up there however, is to get to the partially-collapsed stone structures situated behind the boss's starting location. You can climb up there or use a Grappling Hook to reach the top, where a sigil on the top of an extended area can be found and interacted with. Using this sigil causes the boss to fall to its knees and will remain stunned for a short period of time. Once it has lowered its head, you can drop down onto its head and attack the sigil found there. You only need to do this twice, as this is the same sigil that you used to awaken the creature. If you drop down as soon as the head is lowered, you'll be able to attack twice without retaliation and move onto the boss's' shoulders towards the second sigil.
The two remaining sigils are on its right shoulder and on its back. Both will need to be attacked three times before the boss will fall. The boss will start to shake in an attempt to throw you off after you have attacked one of its sigils (or just periodically when you are near one), tap the [RMB] rapidly as it does this to avoid losing as much stamina as possible. Once it stops, attack the sigil again or move to the next one as soon as you can, as it will only barely give you enough time to do so before trying to shake you off again. The sigil on its shoulder is on a fairly flat area, so you can press [F] to stop climbing and stand there to regain your stamina if it is running low, which you should try to do before attempting to attack the final sigil.
Once you have attacked all three of the boss' sigils three times each, the boss will fall and a cutscene will play, during which you will be taken to "The Temple". Congrats, you've completed the first area of the game and opened up access to the entire game world.
Boss II - The Devourer
<text>
<boss graphic>
<text>
SIGILS: All located around the middle of the Tower's visible body
GRAPPLE POINTS: Several around the middle of its body, can be used to reduce climbing time from the various points of the Tower's body that are safe to stand on when it is immobile.
ITEMS REQUIRED: None
Once you enter its arena, "The Tower" will dramatically surface from the lake, be ready to run as soon as control is given back to you, as whilst it is immobile, it will frequently fire off energy blasts at you. These blasts are highly damaging and move very quickly, but dont track once they have been fired, so you should be able to avoid them if sprinting/dodging directly away once it is fired. You can see when you are being targeted when the light shining from the Tower's mouth is shining on you.
Sometimes the Tower will also spin its head around in a circle, spewing out a putrid-looking black fog, which also spawns many small blue orbs that travel towards your position. They will damage you on contact, so try to keep away from them. There is only really one way to get up onto the Tower and defeat it. You have to run around the circular arena and step on three pressure plates to raise several orbs from the ground. Keep still on the pressure plate and the Tower will fire at you, directly hitting and lighting up the orb that you just raised. Do this for all three orbs around the arena, and you will be able to activate the large pressure plate at the back of the arena, with will briefly stun the Tower, causing it to fall down with its mouth in the water.
Use your Sail Cloth to try and glide over as much of the freezing cold water as you can, then swim over to the Tower. You can climb up onto it here, and as you do it will raise back up into the air, allowing you to climb down and reach its three sigils. They are moslty around the middle area of The Tower and are not hard to find, if you have trouble, jump down onto the protruding spike-platforms (which you can stand on, allowing you to restore your stamina), you can usually see the sigils from these platforms. The Tower will shake periodically as you climb it, and will shake every time you attack a sigil. It can still perform its black fog attack whilst you are climbing on it, and the blue orbs will float down towards you and stick to its fur, which can be a hazard whilst climbing. If one is coming towards you, either drop down to a lower platform or leap forwards away from it to avoid taking the damage.
Once you have attacked all three sigils three times each, the Tower will be defeated and a cutscene will play, after which you will be taken back to the Temple.
Miniboss - The Champion
SIGILS: Back
GRAPPLE POINTS: None
ITEMS REQUIRED: None (Grappling Hook or Melee Weapons highly recommended)
DROPS: Champion's Sword, Large Health Potion, Bedroll, Small Health Potion, Wooden Arrows, Warmth Potion, Lots of Resources
The Champion is a large enemy that can be encountered in the world that serves as a sort of miniboss. They have a single sigil on their back and are much deadlier than normal enemies. They weild a staff-like weapon that can be used to deal heavy strikes up close and fire off magic projectiles from long range. Their close range strikes can be difficult to dodge and deal a huge amount of damage. The best way of doing so is to dodge backwards, dodging past its legs to stop just behind them, or even between its legs, though this is riskier because you can be knocked down briefly by its legs as it steps forward. The Champion can also raise its weapon high above its head, charging up and creating several particle effects, before bringing it down hard to the ground with a large and highly damaging impact, which will leave you close to death even at full health.
The Champion has a single sigil on its fur-covered back, and can be very hard to reach. You wont be able to jump up from the ground to grab onto it right away. There are two ways for you to reach this sigil. The first and less resource-heavy, is to to draw it towards the edges of its circular arena, wait for it to raise its weapon to strike, then use your Grappling Hook to grapple up to the top of the stone structures. Climb up as quickly as you can and stand as far away from the edge as you can, because the Champion will fire off two energy blasts in quick succession from its staff, these blasts have a decent area of effect when they impact, so you can be damaged and blasted off the wall from an energy blast. Stand here for a short time, and the Champion will start looking around for you as it loses sight of you.
After it has looked around, it will turn away from the edges of the arena and walk back to his starting position. As soon as it turns, jump off from the stone structures and use the Sail Cloth to glide over and grab onto the back of the Champion. The second, more resource-heavy way to deal with the Champion, is to attack its legs. You can do those with either Arrows or Melee Weapons, but Melee Weapons are more effective. It can take quite a lot of damage to knock down the Champion, but after you beat it down enough, it will fall down to its knees for a brief time, allowing you to jump up onto its back and reach the Sigil. For reference on how much time this takes, it takes about two full-durability Torches to knock it down to its knees, and remember - it takes three attacks on the Sigil to defeat it.
Once you are climbing on its back, the Champion will try and shake you off very frequently, but will eventually start its charge-up slam attack. As soon as it stops trying to shake you off, quickly attack the Sigil and press [F] to drop off of its back and run directly away from it as fast as you can, so you don't get caught in the area of effect of the attack. You'll need to do this three times to bring down the Champion, but will be rewarded with a huge amount of items and resources for doing so.
Boss III - The Boar
SIGILS: Chest. Rear Leg (Left), Shoulder (Right), Top of Head
GRAPPLE POINTS: None
ITEMS REQUIRED: None
< Insert fancy graphic here >
The Boar is found deep within a cave that you'll need to use a Grappling Hook to access. Approach the massive stone door at the entrance and stand on the pressure plate to open it, enter through the opening and continue through into the large open cave. You'll reach an area with another pressure plate which activates two counter-weights, these open the main gate to the Boar on the other side of the abyss. Once the counterweight on the left has stopped descending, jump off the edge and use the grappling hook in mid-air to climb ontop of it. As it begins to raise again, jump off, then use the Sail Cloth to glide forwards and run under the gate, once you do - a cutscene will play and the battle will commence.
The Boar will move around the arena, either attempting to trample you or rear up on its hind legs and stomp you into the dust. It will also roar periodicially, shaking the arena and dislodging icicles from the ceiling. These will be telegraphed by a small shaft of light before they impact the ground, dealing a large amount of damage if they hit you directly, or simply knocking you down if you are too close. Of note in the arena is an Ornate Bow and three Explosive Arrows left up high on the surrounding walls of the arena, near the furthest lit up pressure plate, these will be no help against the Boar itself, but may come in handy fighting other enemies in the outside wilderness.
To get onto the Boar itself to attack its Sigils, you will need to run to the large stone objects at either side of its massive arena. Both of these have a pressure plate in front of them, these are visually identical to the one that you used to stun The Tower boss, previously. Standing on the pressure plates will cause the Boar to get in position to charge. About half way into this charge, the Boar will be locked into it, at this point you will want to run off of the pressure plate and roll away to avoid being hit by the Boar's charge, as this will deal a lot of damage and leave you ragdolled, reducing the amount of time you have to get onto the Boar itself. Once the boar has fallen, you can climb onto it, shortly after which it will get back up. You should try and climb to the top or side of the Boar as fast as you can, as you will not be able to climb or move on its belly/chest whilst it is upright, as you cannot climb whilst completely upside-down.
Once you are climbing on the Boar itself, it will not offer a great deal in terms of resistance and will only attempt to shake you off for a short time after each attack on a Sigil. You climbed onto the Boar from its left side, so you'll want to first climb along its left side to its rear left leg, where you can find and attack the first Sigil. The next Sigil can be found on its front right shoulder, to get there you'll need to travel over the top of the Boar. This is a decently safe place to stand and recover your stamina before climbing down onto its other side. Make your way to its front right shoulder and attack the Sigil there three times, once you've done this, drop off of the Boar and repeat the same actions as earlier to get it to charge at you. Every time the Boar is knocked down like this, you will get a chance to attack the Sigil on its chest a single time, after which it will hastily stand up.
You will need to repeat baiting out the Boar's charging attack until all of the pressure plate structures have shattered. Once they are, the glowing cracked bone at the top of the Boar's skull will have been shattered by the impact, causing it to go into a rage as a short cutscene plays. After this cutscene, the Boar will be running around the arena much more aggressively than before, and the icicles will be falling from the ceiling continuously. In its more aggressive state, you need only stand on the area of the shattered pressure plate to bait the Boar into a charge, do this and you will once again be able to either climb onto it to attack the newly revealed Sigil on its head, or attack the one on its chest. Once you have attacked all of the Boar's four sigils three times each, it will be defeated and a cutscene will play.
Boss IV - The Dreki
SIGILS: Head, Top of Neck, Tail, Mid-section (hidden underneath chain section)
GRAPPLE POINTS: Multiple, confirmation needed
ITEMS REQUIRED: Grappling Hook, Melee Weapon recommended
< Insert fancy graphic here >
< Insert map here >
The path to the Dreki's icy area can be found just east of the Devourer's lake, through an area with deep snow and heavy vegetation, populated with several Deer. Run through the door-shaped hole in the blue ice and you'll be able to continue down a short, narrow area that introduces you to the Dreki's chain-shifting mechanics. Theres no way to get lost here, and the only way to go will lead you straight to the boss area.
Boss V - Yeti
SIGILS: Top of Head, Arm (Left), Arm (Right)
GRAPPLE POINTS: Upper Back (Left)
ITEMS REQUIRED: None - Bow, Wooden Arrows and Grappling Hook highly recommended
When you approach its arena, the Yeti will crash through the massive stone structure to the left, sending rubble and particle effects flying, and throwing you right into the battle. There are a lot of ways to get onto the Yeti. The most difficult way to do this is to bait out its fist slam attack, in which it will brings its fist down hard onto the ground, creating a highly damaging area-of-effect shockwave. If you position yourself just right to avoid the damage, it is possible to grab onto its arm and climb up it from there, but is extremely difficult to do so as it will only remain close to the ground for about a second, because of how damaging the attack itself is, this isn't really the best way to go about getting onto the boss. The Yeti also has a Grapple Point on its left shoulder that you can grapple to if you manage to get up on a tall enough stone structure before it is destroyed by the boss.
The safest and most reliable way to get onto the boss is to lead it to the deep snow that borders the arena, and bait out its stomp attack. Lead it onto the deep snow and when it is a good way into it, you'll want to run around its feed to tempt it into performing this attack, be careful though, as the force of its feet impacting the ground as it moves is enough to knock you down or damage you if you are too close. Once the Yeti stomps on the deep snow, its foot will sink down into it for a moment, allowing you to reach the climbable area on the back of its leg. Ensure you have a good amount of stamina, then jump up onto this and climb up towards the base of its back. There is a rocky protrusion there that you can stand on to regain stamina, but you won't be able to stand there for long, and you probably won't be able to climb all the way up its back (though it IS certainly possible), as it will reach behind itself and grab you between its fingers. Don't worry though, as long as you have a Bow and a few arrows - this is exactly what we want to happen. The Yeti will hold you up high above it and open its mouth ready to drop and swallow you whole. You can equip and use your bow from this position, with this you'll want to aim for either one of its glowing orange eyes and fire an arrow into it, doing so will cause the Yeti to reel in pain for a moment and drop you, landing you onto its back. If you don't manage to hit it in the eye however, you will be killed instantly as it drops you into its mouth, devoured whole.
From here, you are in a great position to go and attack the Sigil positioned on the top of the Yeti's head. This is a fairly simple one to attack, and the Yeti will attempt to shake you off each time you do so. Once you've attacked it three times, you can stand on the Yeti's shoulders to regain your stamina (use the Grapple Point on its left shoulder to get back on should you fall), before moving down to each of its arms, where the final two Sigils are located. Be careful though, because the Yeti has an extremely damaging attack that will kill you outright if you are caught by it when climbing its arms. If you stay on its arm for too long, it will raise its other arm above you before swatting you after a few moments. The only way to avoid this is to get off of the arm and to safety, or to attack the Sigil once, which should only be attempted if you are there just before or as it begins the attack animation - otherwise you will not have enough time to attack the Sigil before you are splatted. If you manage to attack the Sigil, the Yeti will be staggered and try to shake you off, cancelling its attack.
Once you have attacked the Sigils on both of its arms, you will have defeated the Yeti and a cutscene will play, before you are transported back to the Temple.
Boss VI - The Crogon
< Insert fancy graphic here >
SIGILS: Tail, Chest, Left Wing, Right Wing
GRAPPLE POINTS: Tail x2, Chest
ITEMS REQUIRED: Bow, Arrows
< Insert map here >
The Crowdragon will dramatically make its entrance as you enter its arena, flying high up in the sky. Once you regain control of your character, you'll be able to explore the huge arena that you find yourself in. If you entered the Crowdragon's arena from a high, unconventional vantage point, you can attempt to use this to fall/glide down onto the boss, if not, you will find yourself on the ground of the main arena. There are three circular structures to be found here, two of which are fully raised up when you start the battle. Be careful as you move around the arena and try to spend as much time as you can in the air and gliding to each location, as there are many enemies which will attack you if you get too close to the areas in which they are hidden, including Wraiths and groups of Ice Soldiers. The Crowdragon itself will also attack you periodically by flying overhead and spewing out explosive fireballs. Watch for the glow on the ground to avoid where they will impact, be especially careful when fighting other enemies that you aren't hit by the Crowdragon's attacks!
To get onto the Crowdragon, you'll need to climb up both of these and attack the Sigil at the top of each three times, once you have done this, the main structure will be raised up and have the Magical Fire lit at several points. Stand on the tallest point of the structure and ready your Bow, light the arrow with the Magical Fire, and aim up at the Crowdragon. It will dive towards you and charge up a highly damaging energy blast, before it does, you'll need to fire the arrow at its head, it will explode in impressive fashion and bring the Crowdragon crashing down to the ground behind you. As soon as you can, jump down and run over to the fallen giant. The first Sigil you'll want to attack is on the flat top of its tail. Jump onto it and you should be able to attack at least once before the Crowdragon manages to get back up. It will shake as it does, but will shortly take flight once again. If you are still on the ground as it does so, there are Grapple Points on both its tail and chest to still allow you to get onto it.
Contrasting to much of the other bosses that you've defeated up to this point, the Crowdragon will not actively try to shake you off, but you will still need to tap [RMB] to cling on as the sheer movement and flapping of its wings will force you to hang on tighter. Once in flight, you can attack the sigil on its tail the remaining amount of times needed, then you will be able to continue to climb up the length of its tail and upwards to its body. You wont need to hang onto the Crowdragon whilst traversing it all the time, as there are many instances where the area you need to be walking on will be flat enough for you to just walk, allowing you to regain your stamina as you do so, which is highly recommended: don't sprint! There is a second Sigil located on the chest of the Crowdragon, it can be accessed whenever the creature is flying on its side, as you can't climb whilst directly upside-down, though ignore it for now, as there is an easier way of getting to it. Continue onwards to its back. The remaining two Sigils are found on either wing of the creature, and are the most difficult ones to get to, as you will have to hold on tight whenever it flaps its wings - which is frequently.
If you are beginning to seriously run out of stamina whilst climbing on the Crowdragon and wont be able to let go and walk on it, make sure to jump off of it before your stamina completely expires, as you will need to use your Sail Cloth to glide down to the ground, at least when nearing it, so you dont take a huge amount of fall damage. You'll want to do this after attacking both of the Sigils on its wings three times, as the one on its chest can be a pain to get to. Use the Magic Fire to knock the Crowdragon out of the sky again, and run past the tail to its body further along. It will get itself back up, shortly after which it will once again take flight. As it does this, use your Grappling Hook on the Grapple Point located on its underside, which will leave you right next to the final Sigil. As it takes flight, you will be left upside-down, so will need to hang on tight until the Crowdragon flies on its side as it turns. When it does this you are free to climb and attack the final Sigil.
Once you have done this, the Crowdragon will fall to the ground, defeated. Assuming you have defeated all five bosses in order as well, this will also be the end of your "story" in the current Early Access version of Praey for the Gods. You can still explore the wilderness after this, and complete any puzzles that you might have left over!
Exploration - Devourer Cave
1x Map Fragment
1x Idol
This short cave passageway is found just before the Devourer fight, and is one of the two main paths to reaching its arena. In the main entrance is a Map Fragment on the wall to the player's left, and slightly further in a large campfire and permanent bedroll.
Equip a Grappling Hook and you can latch onto the grapple-point past and above the campfire, which leads to a narrow icy pathway. Down in the watery area to the right you can find an Idol hidden away in the back corner. Once you've collected the Idol, the exit of the cave is just past where you dropped down.
Exploration - Yeti Cave
ITEMS REQUIRED: Any Bow, two Wooden Arrows, 1x Wood to create a firepit
REWARD: Heavy Outfit - Boots
The Yeti Cave is located south of the Yeti boss arena, along the east-most side of the island. The cave is quite high up on an icy mountain which you cant climb directly, so you'll need to climb the stone mountain directly opposite from it, from here you can glide across onto the wooden platforms in front of it using your Sail Cloth. Inside the cave, you can use a Grappling Hook to travel across the stone structures high up above the water below. You dont strictly have to use the grapple, but its much faster and less freezing cold. At the other side of the water you can find a stone skull in the shape of the Yeti's.
Use a piece of Wood to create a firepit on the ground, then quickly equip your bow and use the firepit to light the arrows on fire. Fire a Wooden Arrow into each of the stone statue's eye sockets to light them up. Once you've done this, the metal bars stopping you from accessing the treasure chest are lowered, and you can climb up to collect your prize.
With the chest looted, you've completed everything to find in this puzzle cave, and are one step closer to completing the Heavy Outfit set
Exploration - Lantern Cave I
ITEMS REQUIRED: Any Bow, lots of Wooden Arrows/Wood to craft more, Wood to craft a firepit
REWARD: Insulated Outfit - Boots
This cave is located at the bottom of the bridge that leads to the Yeti's battle arena, and can be pretty hard to spot, use the image above to help you out! Once inside, you'll find a campsite for cooking your supplies and resting. You'll have to swim through shallow water to get to the main area of the cave, on which there are two sets of lanterns, one set raised above the water, and another set submerged below it. There is also a pressure plate and a Golden Idol here. Collect the Idol and then stand on the pressure plate to lower the water. As soon as you do, run to the edge of the raised area and jump down into the trench that was previously filled with water. You can now run under the metal gate there, use your Grappling Hook to climb up the stone wall on the other side, and you'll be able to drop down to the area below, which contains a second Golden Idol, unreachable when the area is filled with water. You can use the wooden platforms to get back.
Run up to the centre of the area and use a piece of Wood to create a firepit. Equip your bow and use the firepit to light your arrow, and light the first set of lanterns. Now you can use the lit lanterns to fire more flaming arrows, at the second set of lanterns that are located where the water used to be. Once all four lanterns are lit, the cage containing the treasure chest will be unlocked. Once it is, run over to it and loot it quick, before the water rises once again.
With the chest looted, you've completed everything to find in this puzzle cave, and are one step closer to completing the Heavy Outfit set!
Exploration - Cave Of Wind
ITEMS REQUIRED: None
REWARD: Double-Headed Axe
When you enter this cave you'll first come across a handy camp. Use this to rest up and cook any raw meat you might have. Use the lit lantern to your left to light the one just to the right of it. Now you can use these two lanterns to light the other two tha
- Use the first gust of wind to get up over the icy wall
- Use the second gust of wind to get up onto the platform with a pressure plate
- stand on it
- the metal gate above the first gust will open for a short time
- go back and go through there
- quickly stand on the pressure plate just next to the opening
- this will open the metal gate above you
- use the first gust to get up through there
- you can find the axe on the ground
Exploration - Lantern Cave II
ITEMS REQUIRED: Any Bow, lots of Wooden Arrows/Wood to craft more
REWARD: Insulated Outfit - Boots
When you enter this cave you'll first come across a handy camp. Use this to rest up and cook any raw meat you might have. Use the lit lantern to your left to light the one just to the right of it. Now you can use these two lanterns to light the other two that are sitting there across the water. Once you've lit all of these, the gate in front of you will raise up, allowing you to swim through to the other side, but we don't need to do that just yet.
Swim over to the stone area where the second set of lanterns is found, and you'll find a large pressure plate. Stand on this (there's no need to stay there, just pressing it down for a moment is enough) will drain the water from the area temporarily, allowing you to access two more lanterns at the bottom of the previously water-filled pit. Use the second set of lanterns to light one, and only one, of the third set. Glide down to the third set of lanterns and you'll be able to use those to light up a set of three that are raised up on gold platforms on the other side of the gate you raised earlier. Lighting up these will raise a second gate to the right of them.
Now comes the clever bit: you'll need to wait for the water to raise again, as it does, you can now use it to swim under both of the raised metal gates and reach the final room which contains the treasure chest. To get to this chest, you'll need to lower the water level again and make sure that all of the lanterns are lit. To do this, swim through the area and you'll reach another pressure plate and metal gate. Stand on the pressure plate and the gate will raise for a limited amount of time, so you'll need to be quick. Run through and you'll be at the pressure plate to lower the water level, do so and use the second set of lanterns here to light the third set that have been extinguished by the water at the bottom of the now empty pit. Once you've lit these, you need to run back to the treasure chest room through the gate that you raised and you'll be able to loot the treasure chest for your reward, the Insulated Outfit - Boots.
With the chest looted, you've completed everything to find in this puzzle cave, and are one step closer to completing the Insulated Outfit set!
Exploration - Lantern Cave III
ITEMS REQUIRED: Any Bow, lots of Wooden Arrows/Wood to craft more, at least 2x Wood
REWARD: Insulated Outfit - Arms
The second lantern cave has six lanterns that you need to light, and the method to do so is interesting, requiring more item usage than the first. If you don't have at least 2x Wood in your inventory, collect the two that are left in the right side of the cave entrance, next to the campfire. Now glide down to the very bottom of the area and stand on the pressure plate that you find there. As soon as you do, run to either the far left or right rooms as the water begins to rise, you'll want to be on the other side of one of the metal gates that you find there. Once the water has risen all the way to the top, you can climb up onto the stone area at the back and wait for the water to drop once again.
Once it does, equip your Bow and then use 1x Wood to create a small fire pit, quickly use this to light an arrow. Using this fire arrow, you can now light the lantern held high on the platform in the centre of the room. Repeat this for the other room on the other side of the cave, don't worry about the water putting out these lanterns, they are just high enough to stay lit. Once you have lit both lanterns in the side rooms, the iron gate blocking off the final room within the cave will raise, allowing you to use the pressure plate at the bottom of the area to raise the water level to reach it.
Raising the water level a final time, you can climb up to the final platform of the cave. This contains the locked treasure chest and the final set of lanterns that will already be lit. Wait for the water to drain from the cave once again, then you can use the final set of lanterns to light the first set of lanterns that will get put out when the water rises. Once you do this, the bars surrounding the treasure chest will lower and you will be able to loot it.
With the chest looted, you've completed everything to find in this puzzle cave, and are one step closer to completing the Insulated Outfit set!

Inventory (Items)
This section compiles all of the various items that you can find in the game, as well as the weapons and tools that you will be using throughout your adventure. Make use of this section to learn all of the potential uses of an item as well as where to find it.
Item / Stacks up to 5 / Restores Hunger Res
Bleed Berries are quite common in this land and can be gathered from small, glinting, snow-covered berry bushes in the environment. They are plentiful, but do not restore a great deal of your hunger meter when eaten. A good way to keep your hunger meter topped off is to carry a full stack of five, simply eat enough of them to keep the stack at 5 as you find more of them, this way you ensure you always have a full stack in case of emergency whilst saving on inventory space.
Item / Stacks up to 5 / Restores Hunger Res / Temporarily Extends Stamina Gauge
These fruits are pretty rare, but when eaten will provide you with a small amount of extra maximum stamina - this shows itself as a small portion of a wheel-shaped gauge off to the side of the standard health and stamina UI. They can be found in a few set locations out in the wilds, whilst two are guaranteed to spawn in the Shrine each time the world's resources reset.
Item / Crafting Component / Stacks up to 2
Wooden Logs can be harvested from dead roots that protrude out of the snowy ground, but can also be collected by cutting down trees using sharp weaponry such as the Crude Axe. Wooden Logs have a wide variety of uses and can be a vital component in both feeding yourself and keeping yourself warm. Wooden Logs can be used on its own to craft x5 Arrows, as well as a short-lasting firepit that can be used to warm yourself up in a tight spot, make some Burnt Meat, or light a Torch. Wooden Logs can also be used, alongside other crafting resources to craft a Crude Axe, Wooden Bow or Crude Grappling Hook.
Item / Doesn't stack / Restores Exhaustion Res
Bedrolls can be used to recover a large amount of your Exhaustion Res and can be used anywhere, without the need to return to a camp. These will be very useful to you on long journeys, and unless you know the location of a nearby camp equipped with a permenent one, you should always carry one with you. They can be found lying out in the world in specific locations, or sometimes they can spawn from wooden crates that you destroy.
Item / Stacks up to 4 / Restores Health
These can be used to regain a small amount of health (as you would imagine). They're useful for when you need to heal in the middle of a difficult battle, especially if your hunger meter is full so you cant benefit from using cooked food to heal. They can be found by destroying wooden crates in the environment or also from defeating the Champion minibosses.
Item / Stacks up to 2 / Restores Health
Large Health Potions will regain a large amount of your health when used, particularly useful when heavily injured from a massive fall or boss attack, as they are quick to use. They can be found extremely rarely by destroying wooden crates, but drop reliably from defeating the Champion minibosses.
Item / Stacks up to 2 / Restores Health / Restores Hunger Res
Bread Rolls can be found by breaking wooden crates found around the environment, and can be used to boost your Hunger Res and restore a small amount of Health. Best used when obtained if needed as they arent particularly valuable and dont stack very high in your inventory.
Item / Stacks up to 2 / Restores Health / Restores Hunger Res
Bread Loafs are mostly found by breaking wooden crates littered about the environment, and can be used to boost your Hunger Res and restore a decent amount of Health. Best used when obtained if needed as they aren't particularly valuable and dont stack very high in your inventory.
Item / Stacks up to 4 / Restores Cold Res / Restores Health
Blue Elixir don't offer much, but they can bolster your cold resistance a small amount as well as restore a bit of health in an emergency. Keeping a stack of these on hand could save your life in a particularly rough blizzard, or whilst navigating the island's extreme heights.
Item / Stacks up to 4 / Restores Exhaustion Res
The Green Elixir is a useful item that restores some of your Exhaustion Resistance, its best used in the middle of combat if you're resistance is running low so you can get the most out of your stamina, utilising the benefits from being well-rested.
Inventory (Items Cont.)
Item / Stacks up to 3 / Restores Hunger Res
A scrap of meat harvested from dead Rabbits or Crows. Restores a very small amount of Hunger Res when eaten raw, it is recommended to cook this up at a campfire so you can gain much better Hunger Restoration as well as Health Restoration.
Item / Stacks up to 3 / Restores Hunger Res / Restores Health
Obtained by cooking up a Raw Scrap of Meat at an interactable campfire, and will restore a larger amount of Hunger Res and Health when consumed. Cooking raw meat is the best way to make the most out of your resources.
Item / Stacks up to 3 / Restores Hunger Res / Restores Health
Obtained by dropping a Raw Scrap of Meat next to a crafted firepit until it turns a dark brown. You can tell the Raw Meat is cooking when it starts smoking a lot from the ground. Restores less Health and Hunger Res than a properly Cooked Scrap of Meat, but is better than eating it just Raw.
Item / Stacks up to 2 / Restores Hunger Res / Restores Health
A scrap of meat harvested from dead Boars. Restores a small amount of Hunger Res and Health when eaten raw, it is recommended to cook this up at a campfire so you can gain much better Hunger Restoration and Health Restoration, or you can use it to solve environmental puzzles.
Item / Stacks up to 2 / Restores Hunger Res / Restores Health
Obtained by cooking up a Raw Boar Meat at an interactable campfire, and will restore a larger amount of Hunger Res and Health when consumed. Cooking raw meat is the best way to make the most out of your resources.
Item / Stacks up to 2 / Restores Hunger Res / Restores Health
Obtained by dropping a piece of Raw Boar Meat next to a crafted firepit until it turns a dark brown. You can tell the Raw Meat is cooking when it starts smoking a lot from the ground. Restores less Health and Hunger Res than a properly Cooked Scrap of Meat, but is better than eating it just Raw.
Item / Doesn't Stack / Restores Hunger Res / Restores Health
A scrap of meat harvested from dead Deer. Restores some Hunger Res and Health when eaten raw, it is recommended to cook this up at a campfire so you can gain much better Hunger Restoration and Health Restoration, or you can use it to solve environmental puzzles.
Item / Doesn't Stack / Restores Hunger Res / Restores Health
Obtained by cooking up a Raw Deer Meat at an interactable campfire, and will restore a huge amount of Hunger Res and Health when consumed. Cooking raw meat is the best way to make the most out of your resources.
Item / Doesn't Stack / Restores Hunger Res / Restores Health
Obtained by dropping a piece of Raw Deer Meat next to a crafted firepit until it turns a dark brown. You can tell the Raw Meat is cooking when it starts smoking a lot from the ground. Restores less Health and Hunger Res than a properly Cooked Scrap of Meat, but is better than eating it just Raw.
Inventory (Weapons)
Weapon ~ Tool / Doesn't Stack
Torches are the weakest melee weapons in the game and do deal much damage nor have much durability and should only be used in emergencies if you have nothing else to fight with. The much more useful purpose of the Torch is to set it alight using an open flame. This will start to burn through its durability until it is destroyed, but will keep you warm as you hold it, essentially extending the use of any fire that you have created and can be a lifesaver when struggling through a storm. Torches can be found frequently in the environment or by breaking wooden crates.
Weapon ~ Tool / Doesn't Stack
Crude Axes can be used as low damage melee weapons (similarly to the Torch) but are much more useful in cutting down trees in the environment to harvest Wooden Planks. It's always worth carrying at least one type of axe around in case you are ever in need of some wood for a fire. They can be crafted from Wood and various resources, or found in the environment.
Weapon / Doesn't Stack
The Soldier's Sword is a more effective weapon than the Wood Club and will likely end up being the one you wield for most of the time in the game, as they are used by most common undead enemies and you will likely obtain the swords from defeating them, effectively fuelling a never-ending supply as long as there are still undead left to put down. These weapons can be found in the environment, from breaking wooden crates, or dropped by Undead or the Champion minibosses.
Weapon ~ Tool / Doesn't Stack
Iron Axes are more effective weapons than Crude ones, and will deal more damage as well as having higher durability. They can still be used to cut down trees though are probably better saved for use as a weapon to fight off the Undead unless you have no weaker axes available.
Weapon / Doesn't Stack
Featuring a more elaborate design than the Soldier's Sword, the Elite Sword boasts higher damage and durability, on par with the Elite Axe. This sword can be obtained by defeating the Champion minibosses or sometimes dropped by Elite Undead enemies.
Weapon ~ Tool / Doesn't Stack
The Elite Axe is a menacing-looking double-headed axe. It deals out higher damage and has higher durability than the Iron Axe, on par with the Elite Sword. It's the most powerful axe in the game and makes short work of both trees and enemies alike. Can be found by completing the puzzle in the Wind Cave and looting the treasure chest at the end.
Weapon / Doesn't Stack
The cheapest and weakest bow that you'll be able to find in the environment or craft, it isn't particularly accurate and has a fairly wide aiming circle, so takes more skill to use effectively than the Ranger Bow. This makes it particularly difficult to use when freezing or at extremely low health, as your aim will be very rough. This is a great weapon to use against Wraiths however, as they are a decently large target and will often be very close to you when you get an opening. The Wooden Bow can be crafted, or found out in the environment.
Weapon / Doesn't Stack
The Ranger's Bow is a lot fancier-looking than the comparatively crude Wooden Bow, and has more damage and much more accuracy, making it much easier to pull off precision shots. This makes it the perfect hunting weapon for headshots, but you should avoid wasting this on puzzles due to its scarcity. These can be found out in the environment or dropped by Undead, more commonly from Elite Undead.
Ammunition / Stacks up to 5
Wooden Arrows are the most basic and easily most common type of ammunition that you can find and use in the wilds, and you'll end up having an overabundance of them if you're good at aiming with the bows. These are the arrows you'll want to use for solving environmental and boss-related puzzles. Plenty of them can be found in the environment, or dropped from wooden crates and enemies, or you can craft a stack of them with some Wooden Logs.
Ammunition / Stacks up to 5
Explosive Arrows are very rare but can be found in specific locations out in the environment. They cause a large explosion on impact and can be used to deal a huge amount of damage to enemies, making them very useful in difficult combat situations, just make sure not to take yourself out in the explosion. Not much use against bosses and probably a little overkill for hunting.
Inventory (Equipment)
Your equipment governs how many items and resources you can carry, as well as helping you survive from taking physical damage and boosting your cold resistance. Most equipment pieces have to be found around the world by completing various environmental puzzles, this list documents the various pieces of equipment that you can collect.
Collectibles
There are three kinds of collectibles in Praey for the Gods, Map Points. Treasure Maps and Gold Idols. These types of collectible can be found all over the open world. Map Points when collected, will reveal an area of your map and are most often found in caves. Treasure Maps will place a red X on your map indicating an area of interest, and Gold Idols will upgrade your Stamina Gauge once you have collected enough of them (3 per upgrade). This section of the guide will document the various collectibles as I discover them, and will hopefully be complete soon.
Lore Notes
Lore Notes are numbered as to the order that they are selectable once added in the player's inventory, though this doesn't seem to match up chronologically (see Lost Journal - the first on the list is Day 6, not Day 1, which is in the sixth place on the list... strange).
#1 -
I fear this is not working. I will continue to send ravens to the temple, someone up there has to see what is going on. This can not be why we were sent here. They need to listen to us. -Gorm
#2 -
Carry them close or hide them if you must. The other clans are unaware of their true power - the totems we carry are not what they seem. -Gorm
#3 -
I do not know how this all started but I know we must end it. There is no other choice but to kill them all, or suffer the same fate as those wretches that came before us. We must convince the others! Not all, but enough to stop this nightmare. -Gorm

#1 - Day 6:
The weapons we brought are brittle in the cold. Some of us have taken to crafting crude weapons from wood as it is plentiful. However, these trees are odd. We cut them down for warmth, for weapons and yet they grow back almost overnight. What tree can do that?! Their roots are strange they grow deep, far deeper than the trees back home. I think they are connected together, perhaps to something much larger.
#2 - Day 3:
The cold is brutal here, relentless. Thankfully, Leif found some caves which give refuge from the elements. I have found cooking to be difficult out here unless you can find a proper campfire. I could drop the food next to smaller makeshift fires like Leif does but I find it always burns the meat and gets dirt on it.
#3 - Day ??:
I've lost count of the days now. They are all blending together, as our numbers begin to dwindle I worry about what will become of us. The storms are getting stronger, I'm not sure many of us can survive this cold without proper clothing.
#4
#5 - Day 16:
I saw my first one today. They are huge. Unbelievable in scale like nothing I have seen before. Is this what the clan spoke of? Is this what we are here for? The smell of death is overwhelming. What plague fell on this island?
#6 - Day 1:
Our ship was the first to arrive. We were immediately met with ferocious winds that ripped our sails apart. We tried to stay on course but were tossed into walls of ice that crushed our hull and threw us into the frigid waves. Many did not make it to shore and those of us that did now struggle to stay warm with the little we were able to grab before the ship went down. Traversal so far has proved incredibly difficult. We've found safety in the caves and for now I have committed myself to write about my days here.
#7 - Day ??:
None of us are allowed at the temple. It's nearly impossible to get up there since the bridge was destroyed and even then no one wants to go. The constant sounds of wailing moans and cries are unsettling. From down here it reeks of death so I can only imagine the stench that is inside. Whatever is going on up there I want no part of. We will continue our previous plans, albeit against my better judgement -- what else is there to do? There are no heroes here, no riches, only misery to keep us company. We came with such dreams, but now I only want this to end.
We all do.
#8 - Day ??:
Our food is nearly gone and some have begun fighting over the warmer clothes. With some going as far as to hide their best gear in the caves. I've made due with what I have and still hold out hope that what we are doing here will bring back the light.

Nothing has been delivered in days. I'm too weary to think what has happened. They said more boats would arrive soon but nothing has come for many moons. Those that came before us are missing, frozen or worse. I hope this reaches you in time.
#2 -
The cold was unbearable so we set fires with cursed flesh which still burn strong day after day. The fire removes the cold but even it cannot sear away the madness that consumes some of us.
#3 -
Burned to feel warmth, blinded to see, muted to sing praises, and bound to believe.
Seeds of life create new crops for all to prosper.
We were strong, we were chosen and they needed our faith.
#4 -
The prophets had us bring order to chaos. The sigils will free us all. Ring the bells!
#5 -
#6 -
The bindings took so long to attach, ropes were tied on and hardened with the cold. After so many rituals, it collapsed from exhaustion and we buried it. I'm not even sure if it's dead, the stench that comes from there is unbearable.
#7 -
I knew this place was haunted. You can see them at night, watching over us. I am too afraid to get near them, what are they looking for? Are they trapped here like us?
#8 -
Its vicious attacks were relentless. Like lightning, its blasts seem attracted to the metal structures and may prove useful for us if we can harness it. Some were able to quickly get back on once we got the grapple spots in place.
#9 -
The whispers follow us at day and show themselves at night. They haunt our senses, wear us down, and pick us off one by one. Ripping us from battle. I'm afraid to go out unless I have a torch with me. The fire seems to protect us or at least keep them at bay.
#10 -
It took all of us to pin him down. So many of us were lost in the process... Those arms were so powerful, destroying anything in their path. Luring him into the deeper snow proved helpful and many were able to climb the beast that way. My strength has always been with the bow, so I held back with the other archers and provided what cover we could, hunting for some weakness. We found it! When those terrible eyes turned towards us, glowing with rage, our arrows answered.
#11 -
We feared it would be impossible to pull from the ground but once they cut it down this beast took to the sky. How it flies we may never know. We were able to hold it long enough to lock the sigils in place. It twisted and writhed as we fought to get them in place breaking all the chains leaving only the bindings.
#12 -
#13 -
Luring it was easy, but containing the beast proved difficult. It may have blinded it but we found it still very sensitive to sound and touch.
#14 -
I came to this place to right my wrongs. Like many, I took their offer and sacrifice to make a better life but it was not as I had expected. Trapped in this cold, lonely place. I'm sure now we have brought this on ourselves. I found and shared letters from others which brought me peace. Overtime, the silence here has become deafening if not maddening. I am alone, I cannot bury myself, but I have buried my totem as it is the only thing worth saving.

Have you seen the wolf? I haven't seen it but we're being told to kill it on sight. No idea why, there are plenty of deer and boar to go around on this island. Why worry about a wolf when there are much bigger problems to deal with?
