To give some background, True Colors is set in the new location of Haven Springs, Colorado. The gameโ€™s similarly new protagonist, Alex Chen, has traveled to the community in order to start over. Unfortunately, she wonโ€™t get long to enjoy her fresh start as tragedy soon strikes. She must heal from the sudden loss of her brother Gabe, whom she hadnโ€™t seen for eight years and was just getting the chance to reconnect with. Alex must then figure out what happened in the suspicious accident that caused his death while interacting with the people of the town who all seem to have their own secrets they want to keep. It will be up to you to figure out who has the most to hide while forming a bond with this new community.

The main part of the game that has the most variability is not really about solving the mystery, but about winning over the people you meet. You will need to earn their trust in order to convince them of the deceit of one of their own. It sounds easy enough, but requires interacting with characters in just the right way to ensure they feel they can count on you. Donโ€™t worry about Steph, the most wholesome character of both this game and the prior prequel game, Life Is Strange: Before The Storm, who will have your back no matter what.

To secure Duckie's trust, you'll need to interact with him twice:

In Chapter 1, when you're covering Gabe and working as a server, approach Duckie and Diane to take their orders. Next, you need to get the correct orders from both of them. Part of that is tracking down Duckie's usual whiskey brand. You can find the whiskey upstairs among the pillows on Alex's couch.

In Chapter 4, at the festival, you can see Duckie present. Observe his emotions to find out why he is sad, then interact with nearby highlighted objects. With what you learn, you can ask him to dance.

With both of these prior acts of kindness, you'll earn his trust in the final chapter.

At the end of Chapter 3, you'll have to decide whether to take out Charlotte's intense anger or leave her alone. Of course, there are no right or wrong answers here, but what you decide will affect Charlotte in different ways and will slightly alter what happens later in chapter 5.

Take Charlotte's Anger: Alex will face Charlotte's anger, prompting Alex to have a tantrum in front of Steph and Ryan soon after. Because of this, Steph and Ryan will leave the apartment and you will investigate the USB yourself. During the festival in Chapter 4, you'll meet Charlotte, who says she feels numb before you leave. Later, she won't defend you in the final showdown during the city council meeting in chapter 5.

Leave her alone: โ€‹โ€‹When you leave the room, you can apologize or offer assurances that everything will be fine. After that, Alex doesn't have a blast and Ryan and Steph will stay with you as you watch over the USB and air your thoughts. When you see Charlotte during the festival, you share a moment by the river where she apologizes for being horrible and then defends you in Chapter 5.

When you visit Charlotte at her dispensary during Chapter 2, you reveal that the Typhon Corporation gave her a sworn statement. By signing it, you would agree not to press charges against the company for Gabe's death and Charlotte would receive a lot of money in the process.

Charlotte hesitates to sign the morally questionable cascension because she feels she would be disrespectful to Gabe. On the other hand, the money they're offering her would be enough to send Ethan off to college. So she asks Alex to make the decision for her. The main consequence of this choice comes in the last chapter during the board meeting. If you convince Charlotte to sign the declaration, she will not be able to endorse Alex.

Ryan is the most difficult person for Alex to support. You're going to have to interact with him and make very specific decisions in almost every episode to get Ryan to side with Alex:

At Gabe's wake, support Ryan's claim that he heard Gabe make the call to stop the detonation. Yes, it's a lie, but it shows that you support Ryan, which will help you earn his trust.

After telling Ryan about your powers, hug him. This will imply that you value his friendship, which will help him appreciate you.

Don't have an angry outburst in front of Ryan and Steph, which will cause both of them to abandon Alex. The only way around this is for Alex not to be angry, which means you can't take Charlotte's anger out of her.

After revealing the truth about Typhon and Jed to the people at Haven's council, you can speak to Ryan beforehand. Choose the dialog option "You believe me, don't you?" so you don't force yourself to trust yourself, but ask for it.

When Alex goes to the flower shop in Chapter 2 to find Mac, she discovers that Eleanor is suffering from memory loss. After the players help the poor woman find out what she was up to, Alex realizes that Eleanor doesn't remember that Gabe died. It's up to the player to deliver the bad news or not.

If Alex reveals Gabe's fate, Eleanor will be devastated, especially since she missed the wake. However, it allows you to be present for the tribute on the bridge. You must reveal Gabe's fate, otherwise she will not support you in the meeting because of Riley's decision to care for her adoptive mother rather than going to college.

If Alex doesn't inform Eleanor, Eleanor will miss the heartfelt event. Also, Riley ends up discovering Eleanor's illness, which means she doesn't go to college. Finally, Eleanor doesn't help Alex at the board meeting.

One of the game's main hidden options comes during the Spring Festival in Chapter 4. During Chapter 4, you might find out that Riley is at the bus stop after seeing Eleanor's emotions at the festival. If you go to the bus stop and talk to Riley, you'll have to decide whether to tell her about Eleanor's condition or not. Eleanor doesn't want Riley to know, as she wants her to chase her dreams outside of Haven, making it a difficult decision to make.

Tell Riley about Eleanor: If you tell Riley about Eleanor's condition at the bus stop, Riley will decide to stay home. Outside of Riley's circumstances, the main result of this choice is that Eleanor will not defend you during the town council meeting in Chapter 5, and Alex will be affected by it.

Keep Eleanor's Trust: If you keep Eleanor's status a secret, Riley will leave Haven to pursue her aspirations. Eleanor will speak for you during the Chapter 5 meeting and say you can be trusted.

In Chapter 4, Pike will take you into custody as a result of the evidence he uncovered while taking the USB. Here, Pike asks you to sign a statement stating that you will no longer pursue Typhon and you will put aside the evidence you found. Alex can sense Pike's fear of Typhon, and this is where you can decide whether to sign the statement or continue to resist, pushing Pike's fear away.

Sign the statement: If you sign the statement, the story will continue in the same direction, but the only difference is that Pike will be too afraid to confirm what the evidence is about during the city council meeting.

Take Pike's Fear: If you eliminate his fear, Pike will speak for you later. There are also subtle differences in the following scenes, such as changes in Alex's dialogue and mood immediately after the house.

At the end of the second chapter, Alex uses her power to extract information from Mac about Gabe's death. The players discover that he was not the culprit, and actually tries to stop the explosion in the mine. However, the man covers his bosses, fearing that they will withdraw him. In the end, he starts to have a panic attack and Alex is the only one who can help.

If players choose to calm him down, Mac stays in Haven and seems to improve as a person. Alternatively, by choosing to leave, Mac leaves town for good.

In chapter 1, when Riley learns about Mac getting beat up, she'll show up to ask what happened to him. Mac will then lie, telling Riley that Gabe is at fault. You can also lie and cover for Mac (ensuring Gabe takes the blame for the altercation) or tell Riley the truth.

Though you do earn Mac's trust by covering for him, and he does stand up for you in the last chapter, he clearly doesn't deserve it. And even without his trust, you'll be able to get the information you need from him later (it will just require a little push on your part). Tell Riley the truth--it will end her relationship with Mac for good, but it will further cement your friendship with her. If you, on the contrary, aim for the best possible ending, you should consider covering for Mac.

After you interact with the town and see who is on your side, Alex will be given a series of choices for how she finally confronts Jed. It is a powerful scene with some variability in choices, with the biggest one coming to whether you choose to forgive or condemn him. No matter what you do, he breaks down at how thoroughly Alex rips open his cowardice and lays bare all his flaws as a man. It is a cathartic conclusion that makes excellent use of lighting and color to completely draw you into its every emotion. Though this is only the beginning of the end for Alex.

Once that is over, there are six different branching endings that can come about from your choices. The recommendations above were how to get the โ€œgoodโ€ ending. However, there is a lot of variety following that which doesnโ€™t fall clearly into a โ€œgoodโ€ or โ€œbadโ€ category.

Regardless of whether you convince the town or not, which does alter the final choices slightly, Alex will have to make a choice about her future. Does she make a new life for herself in Haven or go out into the world? Will she take a new path with a romantic partner or blaze her own trail? The various permutations are interesting as they speak to her character and provide a lot of emotional heft in the final moments.

Ending 1: Alex stays in Haven alone.

This ending comes if you were not romancing either Steph or Ryan (also known as boring). Instead, Alex will fill Stephโ€™s shoes at the record store after she leaves. It is the most lonely of endings, though one that focuses on Alex getting well-deserved peace even if it is by herself.

Ending 2: Alex goes out into the world alone.

Again, this ending comes if you werenโ€™t a total flirt the whole game (my playthrough was very much about flirting with everyone) and you instead want to leave Haven by yourself. Youโ€™ll go off on a solo music career and, depending on who you win over, will be seen off by members of the town. It has the same focus on Alex as an individual though with the thrill of going out alone.

Ending 3: Alex stays with Steph in Haven.

An ending that comes from flirting with Steph before choosing to stay put, it is a sentimental and sweet conclusion that is shown as Alex looks ahead at what a life could be with Steph in Haven. It sees the two working together at the record store with their shared love of music and cringey dancing. It is low-risk, though still a heartfelt conclusion as the two get to spend the days with each other for company in the humble town they both found themselves drawn to.

Ending 4: Alex goes out into the world with Steph.

The ending that my first playthrough ended with, Alex and Steph will go out into the world to pursue a musical career. It makes sense with the duoโ€™s shared passion for performing, something that Steph rekindled in Alex. It ends with Alex performing in her first solo show where she confidently introduces herself before it cuts to credits.

Ending 5: Alex stays with Ryan in Haven.

If you make the decision to flirt with Ryan, Alex will stay in the town with him. He will take over the Black Lantern and Alex will take over the record store after Steph leaves. Another quiet ending, it has an added degree of pain based on how Ryan came to learn about the treachery of his father and the harm he caused others.

Ending 6: Alex goes out into the world with Ryan.

If you romance Ryan and choose to leave Haven, you will all leave the town behind. Steph leaves as well, though she goes her own way. Alex will continue with her music amidst their travels as she and Ryan try to leave behind the painful past that they experienced in Haven.

For those of you cuties that would rather have a video representation of all these endings, here's that for you!

Here's Beatriz's Golden Tip For You: Living with fear stops us taking risks, and if you don't go out on the branch, you're never going to get the best fruit.
