Ammunition
There are four types of ammunition that you can use for your weapons in insurgency; Default, Tracer, HP, And AP.
"So whats the difference?"
Default: Default is average. It kills but will most of the time take around 2-4 shots depending on what weapon you use.
Tracer: The same as Default but it GLOWS! (this will give away your position but will help friendly pinpoint enemys that you are firing at.)
HP: Hollow point rounds are good against fleshy targets, remember to aim for the legs, arms, and face! ( And if you are skilled enough to notice the difference between someone wearing armor, and someone not wearing armor, then by all means aim for center of mass if they are armor-less! )
AP: Armor Percing is good for people that have armor, basicly shoot for the torso, if you shoot anywhere else they will overpenetrate and basicly go in one side and out the other. Damage will be reduced in comparison to hollow point if hit in a fleshy area compared to an armored one.
Armor
Three types of armor; None, Light, and Heavy.
None: You are going to kill yourself. No seriously, you probably won't even survive a single round to the chest. So if you are new and claim that the other players are "hacking" because they kill you in one shot, while your three that hit them didn't kill them, see if you are wearing any armor. If not, then that is likely the problem.
Light: Mid level protection; You can't take a grenade at all but can probably take a bullet or two depending on where it hits. Hollow Point's damage is reduced if hit in the chest while Armor Piercing is increased slightly.
Heavy: THANK GOD THAT YOU ARE SENSIBLE, look at that you can take around 3-5 hits now! Hollow Points do significantly less damage to the chest while armor piercing does slightly more. However, the armor-to-AP-ratio is still quite high. As previously mentioned, it takes at least three AP chest shots to kill you now. And that is if the player shooting you is using AP
Armor in regards to headshots: Always none. You have a very high, if not 100% chance of dying from a single shot to your head with any armor level picked. That is unfortunate, but it is what it is.
Armor in regards to weight: More armor means more weight so you can run faster but if you load yourself down with equipment it wont matter.
Armor in regards to explosives: More armor=More damage able to be taken (unless its AP, rip you lol.) So the general rule of thumb is, even if you have heavy armor don't try and tank grenades... they will still kill you. Just run away from those little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ as quick as you can so you live longer.
Vests
Three types of vests; None, Chest rig, and Chest Carrier.
None: You only have 2 magazines for your side arm and 3 for your primairy, great job there kiddo. totaly came prepared for war. (in certain cases this can actualy be good, if you are going for stealth then someone with a silenced pistol and two mags could destroy your team.)
Chest Rig, 5 mags for your primairy, 4 for your side arm, and 1 grenade, Sounds like a good deal.
Chest Carrier: 6 mags for your primairy, 5 for your side arm, (might be wrong about side arm) and up to THREE grenades!? DAMN, THATS A LOW PRICE!
Attachments
Attachments are a key part of the game; Grenade launchers can help you take out a dug in enemy, or a scope can help you hit an long ranges.
1x-2x Scopes: If you got the extra points to spend feel free to throw one onto your weapon, just remember that a grenade could help more depending on the situtation.
3x-and higher: These should only be used if you are playing the marksman role, or if its mid to long range combat.
Laser Sights: WHY WOULD YOU PUT A LASER SIGHT ON, IT LOOKS COOL BUT THE ENEMY CAN NOW SEE YOU LONG BEFORE YOU SEE THEM. GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU. -From Blizzard with Love.
Flashlights: These should only be used on night maps, they can be used to blind people with night vision (this goes for your team as well ya turd) but also give your position away.
Grenade Launchers: If you have one of these you are probably a Grenadier, freaking get that ♥♥♥♥. if you are playing the Grenadier class and not using the special attachment given to you then you shouldnt be playing that class.
Grips: If you have the points to spare then I would HIGHLY suggest getting one, they improve your accuracy and decrease recoil.
Bipods: You are probably playing a class with a sniper or a machine gun. Bipods are ESSENTIAL to the support class, if you don't have one of these then you probably shouldnt be playing the support class. Now if your playing marksman or sniper then these are optional seeing as how all they do are decrease weapon sway. Something to note if you are starting out is that bipods auto deploy when you lay down or if you aim behind appropriate cover. based on what you feel I would suggest rather turning bipod auto deploy off or you could just leave it on, auto deploying can leave you wide open for an enemy sometimes.
Heavy Barrel: This, as the name says, adds weight to the barrel of your gun, making the front end heavier so recoil is more managable. This is a personal favorite of mine.
Supressors: Make your boomstick quiet, these can make the sound of your gunfire significantly less noticable but have the downside of lowering damage because it decreases muzzle velocity. Another thing to note is that they also work as extremely expensive compensators due to how heavy they are, they counteract recoil a bit but I would still suggest a grip over them.
Explosives
Now we get to the fun part, things that go kaboom, you like things that go kaboom donchya son?
There are 8 different explosives to be used in insurgency, burt some of them do the exact same thing so they will get thrown together.
RPG-7 and AT4: These are multi-role weapons. They are most effectively used to destroy a cache from a distance (when the enemy if dug in on it) or to kill a large amount of enemies. If you know where the enemy spawns and your team is attempting to capture a point, (this is a scummy thing only do it in case of emergency like your on your last wave) find a good vantage of a choke point or the spawn itself, wait for their tickets to drop and fire directly into the mass of bodies. This will probably get alot of ♥♥♥♥ thrown at you for it but hey, all is fair in love and war. As a final note, make sure your target is atleast 10 feet away or else you will probably die on the spot from the blast.
C4 and IED: "Phone company calling!" These remotely detonated explosives are best used in the same way as the RPG and AT4; Destroying caches or taking out lots of players in an ambush. Something to note with C4 (maybe IED's too?) if you hold right click you can stick it to objects.
F-1 and M67 Frag Grenades: Good for clearing rooms of enemys, ambushing people, or taking out that guy you just can't seem to hit behind cover.
Molotov and AN-M14 Incendiary Grenades: Incendiary grenade are great for blocking choke points, flushing out rooms, and destroying caches. They can even be used to defend points if said point only has one or two small entrances.
Flash Bang and Flare Gun: I know, I know. The flare gun isnt a explosive but its listed as a grenade by the game so get over it. These are pretty self explanatory, One blinds you in general, one blinds you if you are unfortinate enough to be using night vision. BTW the flare CAN damage people, and if used correctly can be a good distraction.
Special Equipment
Only one thing here: Nightvision.
Nightvision is best used on night maps but can be countered by flares, and flashlights.
I suggest turning it off around fires and lights as it can blind you, (duh) and makes you look kinda stupid if your wearing it indoors.
P.S.: Some maps that are night time maps are light enough to be able to clearly make out movement/sillhouetes of enemies. Everyone is different though, so if Night Vision is needed for your style of play, then by all means use it.
Movement
Basic control tips here folks.
Running: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LEG IT, GRENADES, FIRE, ENEMY GUNFIRE, YOU NAME IT YOU ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ RUN. (increases gun sway and your loud asthmatic breathing can be heard in a very large area.)
P.S. : This isn't CoD kiddos. You don't stop and take a shot at someone after sprinting all the way across the map and expect the bullet to be straight. How are you going to fight weapon sway when you're still fighting your own breathing?
Jogging: Might as well take my time and keep my stamina, you know so I can SHOOT BETTER. This is the default movement speed in Insurgency.
Walking: SNEEKI BREEKI! Best used when behind enemy lines or attempting to get behind the enemy as to take them out. Trust me, the walk key is your best ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ friend.
Sliding: Use it to dodge gunfire, cause crossing from cover to cover is RISKY BUISNESS. Default controls for sliding are ctrl + shift while sprinting.
Jumping: Use to get over stuff and onto other stuff, very useful. Don't overdue it though. Jumping too much can burn too much stamina and your aim will suffer.
Crouching: "RAMIEREZ, TAKE COVER BEHIND THAT BRICK WALL!" (you know so you dont get shot and decreases your recoil.) Along with being a slightly harder target to hit to enemies, and being lower to the ground so cover is more effective, crouching also quiets your movements.
Crouch-Jumping: A skill that dates back to the original half-life, can help you jump over higher objects and reach more places. Takes good co-ordination on your part becuase slamming that cntrl key after jumping can be difficult for newbz.
Proning: Because crouching behind cover wasnt good enough. Steadies your aim and decreases your recoil significantly, can also reduce the amount of area your body takes up and make you harder to see. This is also the recommended stance for long-range engagements. It offers the lowest visibility of you to enemies, and it gives you the lowest weapon sway ( non-existant if prone with a bipod ).
Large Areas: Tend to avoid large, open areas. That's a sure fire way to either be grenaded by an enemy grenadier, lit up by the enemy team, or plinked by a far off sniper. Stick to cover and only move up when there is more cover. Go around if you have to. Trust me. Do not make that run across that field unless it is your only, and I mean ONLY option.
Being shot at: If you just make it behind a building and a bullet rips past your head, DO NOT turn around and peak back around the side of the building to see if you can kill whoever was shooting. That is a great way to get your head blown off. You have no idea where the shot came from, how far away it was, and how many there were, but the enemies know exactly where you are. So if you poke your head out and try to find them, you're already in their sights. It's best to keep moving, or if you really want, move up further along the building and take up a position to ambush the enemy if they choose to pursue you. Do keep in mind the enemy is not forced to just take one route to get to you. Keep your head on a swivel and watch your six.
Authors Note
At the time of writing this im about 25% awake, hit me up with edits n ♥♥♥♥ and ill do what I can to make this more bearable to read. Good luck on your games friends and hopefully this helped you.
And maybe if Im not too lazy I might get around to making one of these for Day Of Infamy.
