The (Very) Basics
At its most basic form, you have to press the space bar (or whatever key you currently use) on the seventh beat exactly.
HOWEVER,
NEW THING NUMBER ONE: Skipped Beats
Basically an X in the line. Though the 7-beat rule stays the same, that beat just simply does not make any sound. Treat it like you would with a normal beat.
Well, thats it.
UNTIL,
NEW THING NUMBER TWO: Distractions
Sometimes, there will be visual distractions to keep you from watching the beat, and having to listen to it instead. This is most common in the bosses, though sometimes happens in normal levels, and A LOT in custom levels.
Try to keep the beat going in your head, if anything. If you can, try to just ignore the distractions, though thats real difficult.
Now I think thats it,
IN THE NEXT WORLD, THOUGH,
NEW THING NUMBER THREE: Two-Beats
I'm pretty sure these have a different name in the game, but for lazy reasons I will call them Two-Beats here. There will be a sudden cue where a woman will say "Get, set, go!" to a specific beat. You'll have to keep that beat going until she says "And stop!" or until she changes the beat by repeating the "Get, set, go!"
Now, that should be it,
BUT THEN,
NEW THING NUMBER FOUR: Window Movement
Are you at the second boss when your window suddenly changes from full-screen to windowed? Don't think your computer glitched out! If you go into the settings to switch it back, you can see that full-screen is disabled for this song. This is because your window will move with the song, a distraction big and unique enough to get its own category. Most of the time it will be completely fine to watch as it moves, but sometimes it'll be a bit more difficult to watch the notes, so I suggest listening to the beat. Luckily, at the time of this guide it only happens in the second boss and community levels.
That should be it for now.
FOR THIS WORLD, ANYWAY...
NEW THING NUMBER FIVE: Swing Beats
These probably also have another name, but I cant remember that one either. Swing Beats are just what they sound like: a sort of "Bah-BUM, Bah-BUM" beat that moves differently from "BUM, BUM, BUM, BUM" beats. These vary, so try to keep that beat going in your head once you hear the first ones.
I think thats the end, now.
OKAY, THIS JOKE IS GETTING OLD,
NEW THING NUMBER SIX: Held Beats
These are exactly what they sound like: Beats that need to be held for a period of time. When beats need to be held, they'll make a longer noise and move around weirdly. When you hold them, if you need help remembering how long the note needs to be held, a little bar will appear. make sure to hold it until that bar fills to the top. Don't rely on it, though.
I'm tired of making that joke, there's still more.
Swing Beats 2: Electric Boogaloo
Now the swing beats can vary even further. Sometimes the beats can be "Bah-BUM", but now they can also be "Bah-bah-BUM". Just do exactly what you were doing with the normal swing beats, but just take these new bahs into account.
Now comes my most difficult feature.
NEW THING NUMBER SEVEN: Idek What To Call This
At the making of this guide, the virus in our very first boss is the only one to do this at Night Mode. While playing the level, the virus will suddenly rip a chunk of his heart off. This causes a serious problem to you: there's now seven beats in a bar instead of eight. This makes it incredibly difficult to keep the beat due to a missing one that you're so used to being there. It's so hard, in fact, that I don't really have a tip for this. Practice makes perfect, I guess.
There's one more thing, but you won't find it in the main game. You'll have to look in the community levels.
NEW THING NUMBER EIGHT: Double (or Triple (or More)) Beats
These actually aren't included as of yet, but can be found within community levels. Sometimes, a note will look bigger and more shaky, but not have the look or sound of a held note. These notes need you to press the space bar multiple times, maybe two, three, or more. Most of the time, however, it's just two.
NOW Its The End
