On your PC, Go to windows Settings -> type "Sound Settings" into the search bar -> Sound Control Panel (under Related Settings on the right) -> Recording tab. Find your microphone in the list. Right click on it and select "Set as Default Device" AND "Set as Default Communication Device". If these options are not there, then it is already set as the default device and you can skip this step.

In your Steam library, right click on Forewarned -> Properties -> Installed Files tab -> Verify integrity of game files.

Start Forewarned and host a private lobby.

On the board, select Settings -> Sound. Check that you have selected the correct microphone under "Input Device (Mic)".

Click on "Test Microphone" and try speaking, you should be able to hear yourself. If you cannot hear yourself, make sure you are using the correct push to talk key if push to talk is enabled, and that you have the correct input device. Make sure you are physically near the board, or you may have trouble hearing yourself.

Click on the Forewarned icon on your taskbar, that's the bar with the Windows button at the bottom of your screen. Do not use alt-tab to go back into the game, always click on the taskbar icon otherwise voice recognition will stop working.

Click on "Test Voice Recognition" and say "Why are you here?". Voice recognition should now be functional. If the test says that your device is not compatible, go onto the next chapter in this guide.

DO NOT USE THE VOICE RECOGNITION TEST INSIDE THE PAUSE MENU WHILE IN AN EXPEDITION BEFORE THE TOMB HAS BEEN OPENED. Doing this breaks voice recognition until you return to the lobby. This pause menu voice recognition test never works either way so just do not use it. To be safe, only test voice recognition using the main menu and the transmitter while you are inside the tomb

If Voice Recognition Has Never Worked

In Forewarned, go into Settings -> Sound -> Test Voice Recognition. If it says your device is not compatible, you will need to set up voice recognition:

On your PC, go to windows Settings -> Type "Speech Settings" into the search bar -> Set up your mic for speech recognition (Get started). You should also make sure that the correct language pack is installed at the bottom of the speech page.

Go to windows Settings -> Type "Turn on speech recognition" into the search bar. Make sure it says "On" under "Turn on Speech Recognition".

At some points, Windows may automatically open a program that you can use to control your PC with your voice, you can just close this with the X button. You should then restart the game.

If Voice Recognition Used To Work And The Steps Above Didn't Help

This is also a solution for if the voice recognition test succeeds in the main menu, but the transmitter inside the tomb still does not recognize you.

Turn off steam cloud by going to your Steam library and right click on Forewarned -> Properties -> general tab -> turn off "Keep game's saves in the Steam Cloud for FOREWARNED"

Go to C:\Users\[YOUR_USERNAME]\AppData\LocalLow\Dreambyte Games\FOREWARNED and MOVE everything except for "forewarned00.save" to somewhere else. Do not delete them, do not only copy them, just MOVE them to somewhere safe so that the folder now only contains "forewarned00.save".

Start the game with steam cloud still off.

Go into an expedition and use the Transmitter inside the tomb to see if voice recognition works. If it doesn't, make sure to go through all the steps in the first chapter of this guide. It should now work.

If it is fixed, make sure you still have all your progression, then turn steam cloud back on while the game is still running, then close the game. Steam cloud should now have repopulated the save folder.

Reopen the game and confirm that voice recognition is still working and you still have all your progression.

If Halloween event save data has been reset, overwrite the new repopulated save files with your back up. You may think this will re-break voice recognition, but I've found that it sometimes seems to stay fixed.
