Introduction
There are 249 treasure chests found throughout FINAL FANTASY. This guide will provide you with the locations of each chest with detailed maps, descriptions on how to get each chest, requirements, etc. In the process, you will receive three achievements. Helpful references to the Final Fantasy Wiki—including those with item-specific stats—will be linked throughout this guide. Be aware that links to key items or location names may contain spoilers; view at your own risk. Most item links are safe from spoilers.
There are no unrevisitable locations in this game, so feel free to look at this list once the credits roll. After beating the game, you will get the opportunity to make a new specially-marked save file where you can finish up anything you haven't done yet. For the curious eye who likes to do things in order however, spoiler tags have been added so feel free to browse!
Some chests require for you to have the Mystic Key[finalfantasy.fandom.com] . This is a key item you will receive after completing story objectives in the town of Elfheim[finalfantasy.fandom.com] .

Check Your Treasure Records
Thankfully for any achievement hunters out there, Square Enix has added a way for us to track our chest progress.
If you are on the world map, simply open your map.
If you are in a town, dungeon, or other area, open your map, then use the button for the "Switch Maps" prompt.
Alternatively, you can use a shortcut. press the button inputs for 'Page Up' and 'Back/Run', whether that be on your keyboard or gamepad. On keyboard, it is Backspace and Z respectively. You can check your specific controls by pressing the button prompt displayed in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
Once you have used any of these methods to access your list of locations, simply move your cursor over one of them to see how many treasure chests and key items you've acquired in that area. Luckily for us, it also tells us the total amount found in that area.
This screen also has other helpful information such as what shops can be found in which locations. Helpful for those grinding or looking to buy items, weapons, and armor!
World Map
The following is an image of the world map of FINAL FANTASY as it appears in both 2021's Pixel Remaster, as well as the original 1987 version for the NES/Famicom. Although the names differ between the many iterations of this game, I will be referring to them as they are named here. Please refer to this if you are unsure what location I am referring to.
