Overveiw
Playing Farming Simulator 2013, almost everything that you need to do will require a specific piece of machinery. And there are a lot of pieces of machinery. This guide is here to give a more complete description of the equipment available at the shop than the one shown by the game. This guide will be organized exacly the same way as the in game shop, and will tell you everything you need to know about purchasing and using Farming Sim's large machinery selection.
Tractors (Section 1)
Tractors are the most useful tools that you can have. They are necessary for almost any job around the farm. Use the W and S keys to move forward or backward, and the A and D keys to turn left and right. F will toggle between lights, from front lights on to all lights on (if available) to all lights off. Q will attach an implement to your tractor if properly aligned. There are two kinds of hooks that can have implements attached to them, Large and Small. Large hooks consist of 3 struts in a triangle, with another in the middle and can attach to any implement. Small only have the fourth strut in the middle, and can only attach to certain implements. The 1, 2, and 3 keys are for different levels of cruise control, 3 being fastest, but 2 required to pull most implements. 4 is "Harvesting speed", which is universally about 5-6 mph. Use TAB to switch between your tractors quickly.
Kramer KL 200
Horsepower: 17.75
Maintinence: $15 per day
Top speed: 13-14 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Small in front
Price: $15,000
Description: The Kramer KL 200 is the cheapest (and worst) tractor in the game. As expected, it is small, low in power, and slow. You are given four of these when you start the game, at the Farm Shop, the Cow Pasture, the Sheep Pasture, and the Main Area. Because of its low power, it is recommended that you only buy one of these if you need a tractor and can't afford anything better. It takes a long time to get anything done with the Kramer. Some people use the Kramer by placing one at each significant point at the map, but since you will then need some other machine to do anything there, its not very useful.
SAME Argon3 75
Horsepower: 75
Maintinence: $70 per day
Top speed: 25-26 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $57,000
Description: The SAME Argon3 75 is the worst useful tractor. As a cheap tractor, it is far more useful than the Kramer KL 200 and is on par with many of the other tractors. It can be useful having a couple of these around, and its size means that it can move fairly quickly. The dual Large attach points are also useful, although most tractors have these. A good tractor for hiring a worker in.
Buhrer 6135 A
Horsepower: 134.1
Maintinence: $270 per day
Top speed: 25-26 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $65,000
Description: Think of the Buhrer 6135 A as a slightly upgraded SAME Argon3 75. It too is useful for hiring workers in, and is at a comparatively low price. It has a suprisingly high horsepower for its price, and is superior to many more expensive tractors. Have at least a couple of these around mid-game.
Linder Geotrac 94
Horsepower: 102
Maintinence: $80 per day
Top speed: 25-26 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $94,000
Description: This is a slick looking tractor, but not particularly worth buying. The Buhrer 6135 A has a higher horsepower and is much cheaper, so if you are looking for something of this caliber, get that. If you want to look fancy, buy the Linder Geotrac 94.
Deutz Agrortron K 420
Horsepower: 100
Maintinence: $120 per day
Top speed: 31-33 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $112,000
Description: This is the first of many Deutz Agrotron models available in Farming Simulator 2013. Despite still having a lower horsepower than the Buhrer, it is more efficiantly built, meaning that it can move faster. However, if you want to buy the Deutz Agrotron K 420, you may want to consider saving up a bit more money and getting the Deutz Agrofarm 430 with Front Loader. They are effectively the same tractor and the 430 has the added bonus of being the fastest front loader in the game.
SAME Explorer3 105
Horsepower: 102
Maintinence: $80 per day
Top speed: 25-26 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $119,000
Description: The Buhrer is better in every way. Don't buy this.
Hurlimann XL 130
Horsepower: 141
Maintinence: 130 per day
Top speed: 31-33 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $130,000
Description: Finally, a tractor better in every respect than the Buhrer. The Hurlimann is truly an amazing tractor and is better than most at its level. On top of that, it has a great name, and looks very slick. Having one of these is great, as your best tractor early game and a low level tractor late game. Definately worth the money.
Lamborghini R4.110 Italia
Horsepower: 110
Maintinence: $120 per day
Top speed: 26-26 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $132,000
Description: While it is pretty cool to have a Lamborghini, the Hurlimann is a better tractor, so save your $2,000 and get a Hurlimann if you want something as effective as the Lamborghini. The bonus of the Lamborghini is that you get a free one if you pre-order the game. If you did pre-order, then wait for a long time to sell this tractor, because its an amazing tractor early game.
Deutz 430 Agrotron TTV
Horsepower: 142
Maintinence: $130 per day
Top speed: 31-33 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $133,000
Description: While not a bad tractor in any respect, don't buy the Deutz 430 Agrotron TTV because other tractors are available. Rather, spend an extra $2,000 and get the care wheels version, or the front loader for the same price.
Deutz 430 Agrotron TTV (Care Wheels)
Horsepower: 142
Maintinence: $140 per day
Top speed: 31-32 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $135,000
Description: The care wheels version of the Deutz 430 Agrotron is a very slim tractor, making it much more manueverable. If you want a Deutz 430 Agrotron, then buy this one, because it isn't much more expensive.
Schluter Super Trac 2500 VL
Horsepower: 240
Maintinence: $370 per day
Top speed: 25-26 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $139,000
Description: The Schluter Super Trac 2500 VL has a suprisingly high horsepower and is therefor great for pulling some of the larger implements. Certainly worth the high price.
Tractors (Section 2)
Continued from Tractors (Part 1)
Deutz Agrotron M 620
Horsepower: 155
Maintinence: $150 per day
Top speed: 31-33 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $164,000
Description: This is the first of the four high level Deutz Agrotron Tractors. These are generally considered late game tractors, because of their high price. For the 620, it isn't really worth buying because the Schluter has higher horsepower and is cheaper. However, note that the 620 is faster, so it may be worth buying for transportation.
Deutz 6190 Agrotron TTV
Horsepower: 193
Maintinence: $180 per day
Top speed: 31-33 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $210,000
Description: While considerably more expensive, the Deutz 6190 Agrotron TTV is worth buying over the Schluter because of it's lower maintinence price and higher speed.
Deutz 7250 Agrotron TTV
Horsepower: 263
Maintinence: 240
Top Speed: 37-38 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $263,000
Description: The Deutz 7250 Agrotron TTV is the fastest tractor in Farming Simulator 2013. Take this into consideration when buying it. It is again at a significantly higher price than the one before it, but it is worth it. Because of its speed, the Deutz 7250 Agrotron TTV is the best tractor for selling crop yeilds. Any late-game farm should have one or two 7250's.
Deutz Agrotron X 720
Horsepower: 275
Maintinence: $300 per day
Top speed: 31-33 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front
Price: $271,000
Description: This is the most powerful normally sized tractor in Farming Simulator 2013. Because of it's power and size, the Deutz Agrotron X 720 is the best tractor for pulling implements. Take note of this when you buy it.
Case IH Quadtrac/Steiger 600
Horsepower: 669
Maintinence: $450 per day
Top speed: 25-27 mph
Attach Points: Large on back, Small in front
Price: $359,000
Description. The Case IH Quadtrac 600 and the Case IH Steiger 600 are exactly the same tractor, the only difference being that the Quadtrac has treads and the Steiger has wheels. Case IH tractors look appealing on paper, both because of the whopping 669 horsepower and the fact that they are at the bottom of the tractor list. But Case IH tractors are not all that they are cracked up to be. For one thing, they steer by swinging around the back end, making them sometimes difficult to control precisely and to attach to implements. The main bonus of Case IH is that it the Vogel & Noot TerraTop 800, the widest cultivator, is made for the Case IH, making Case IH tractors the best tractors for cultivating feilds. Make sure not to save up early game for a Case IH, because it is only useful late-game.
Front Loaders (Part 1)
Front Loaders have multiple uses, the most prominent being for transporting pallets for missions. Having a front loader for missions is almost necessary, because if you do missions often, you can make a pretty substansial amount of money. They can also heft solid manure from the cow pasture and silage after it has fermented in a concrete silo.
Weidemann 4270 CX100 T
Horsepower: 101
Maintinence: $50 per day
Top speed: 18-19 mph
Attach points: Small on back, None in front, Special on arm
Price: $26,000
Description: This is the cheapest of the front loaders, but it is almost useless. It is handy to have early game, but is barely able to complete missions. Missions are timed based on the amount of time it takes the Weidemann to complete, so you must have almost no mistakes in your mission if you use a Weidemann. The much more practical use for a Weidemann is at your cow or sheep pasture to heft straw/hay bales into the shredder/mixer wagon.
Weidemann Shovel
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $1,000
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Weidemann 4270 CX 100. The shovel is for scooping solid manure from the cow pasture into a manure spreader.
Weidemann Pallet Fork
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $800
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Weidemann 4270 CX 100. The pallet fork can be used to pick up any pallet, either for a mission or from the sheep pasture. With a bit of skill, you CAN pick up bales with this implement, and possibly save a little bit of money by not buying a bale fork.
Weidemann Large Bale Fork
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $1,200
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Weidemann 4270 CX 100. Although you may want to save money and use the pallet fork to move bales, the Weidemann Large Bale Fork is worth buying because it can carry multipule bales if they are in a a stack.
Weidemann Grab Fork
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $2,500
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Weidemann 4270 CX 100. The Grab Fork seems to allow you to move both manure and silage. More information needed.
Weidemann Manure Fork
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $1,500
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Weidemann 4270 CX 100. I would not recommend buying this because the Grab Fork has the same use and can additionally haul silage.More information needed.
Weidemann Silage Cutter
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $3,000
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Weidemann 4270 CX 100. There does not seem to be any reason to buy this, because the Grab Fork can also haul silage and is cheaper. More information needed.
Lizard Wheel Loader
Horsepower: 254.8
Maintinence: $220 per day
Top speed: 21-22 mph
Attach points: Small on back, None in front
Price: $98,995
Description: The Lizard Wheel Loader, unlike all other front loaders, has no unique attachments. It comes with a large shovel in front. This shovel has the highest capacity by far of any of the other front loaders, making it the best front loader for hauling silage or manure. If you want to haul manure or silage, I would recommend using the Lizard. A common use for the Lizard is to have one or two at the biogas plant to haul the fermented silage into the plant to be processed into liquid manure.
Deutz Agrovector 35.7
Horsepower: 105
Maintinence: $175 per day
Top speed: 21-22 mph
Attach points: Small on back, None in front, Special on arm
Price: $103,000
Description: The Deutz Agrovector 35.7 is a small, manueverable front loader. It is not particularly suited to missions, because it is only a little bit faster than the Weidemann. The 35.7 is incredibly manueverable, so it is good for moving bales and pallets short distances. This, combined with the telescopic arm, makes the Deutz Agrovector 35.7 the best front loader for moving hay/straw bales. It is very useful to have one of these at the cow pasture for filling your mixing wagon, although a Weidemann works fine as well.
Bale Fork for Agrovector
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $1,000
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Deutz Agrovector 35.7. Although this is only designed to pick up bales, the Bale Fork for Agrovector can also pick up pallets.
Pallet Fork for Agrovector
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $1,200
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Deutz Agrovector 35.7. Although this is only designed to pick up pallets, the Pallet Fork for Agrovector can also fork bales.
Shovel for Agrovector
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $800
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Deutz Agrovector 35.7. With this, your Agrovector can haul manure from the cow pasture into a manure spreader, although since it is so small, I recommend using the Lizard Wheel Loader instead.
Deutz Agrovector Silage Fork
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $2,200
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Deutz Agrovector 35.7. You can use this to haul silage from any location, but I would recommend using the Lizard Wheel Loader instead.
Front Loaders (Part 2)
Deutz Agrofarm 430 with Front Loader
Horsepower: 110
Maintinence: $220 per day
Top speed: 31-33 mph
Attach points: Large on back, Large in front, Special on arm
Price: $132,000
Description: The Deutz Agrofarm 430 with Front Loader is an amazing tractor to have. Because of its speed, it is the best tractor for completeing missions, because you can often get time bonuses of $500 or $1,000. Not only is it a fast front loader, the Deutz Agrofarm 430 is also a functioning tractor, and not a very shabby one at that. If you are looking to buy your first higher level tractor, definately consider the Deutz Agrofarm 430 with Front Loader.
Deutz Front Loader Bale Fork
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $1,000
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Deutz Agrofarm 430 with Front Loader. This attachment allows is designed to pick up bales, but it can also pick up pallets.
Deutz Front Loader Pallet Fork
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $1,200
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Deutz Agrofarm 430 with Front Loader. This is the most useful attachement for the 430 because it is necessary for its best purpose, missions. It can also pick up bales.
Deutz Front Loader Shovel
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $800
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Deutz Agrofarm 430 with Front Loader. This can be used to haul soild manure, but a Lizard Wheel Loader is more useful, so only buy it if you are low on funds.
Deutz Front Loader Silage Fork
Maintinence: $5 per day
Price: $2,000
Description: Note that this can only be attached to the Deutz Agrofarm 430 with Front Loader. With this implement, you can haul silage with the 430. However, it is very small and will take awhile. Use the Lizard Wheel Loader.
Harvesters
Harvesters are used to harvest wheat, barley, canola (rape), and corn (maize) once fully grown. All harvesters require a cutter attachment to harvest and have an internal grain storage (except for the Krone Big X 1000 Forage Harvester). Once this storage is full, the harvester will not collect any more yeild and it must extend it's pipe (key O), and wait for a tipper to be driven underneath to collect the yeild. The harvester may continue harvesting while it is unloading so long as the tipper stays under the pipe. Harvesters control the same way as tractors, although their turning wheels are on the back. V raises and lowers the harvester's cutter and B will turn on the harvester. If the cutter is raised and the harvester is turned on, the cutter will lower automatically.
Fahr M66
Horsepower: 54
Maintinence: $190 per day
Top speed: 13 mph
Attach points: None on back, Special in front
Price: $32,000
Description: This is the cheapest combine harvester. You are given one at the beginning of the game to harvest your first yeild. It is cheap for a reason. Because of it's thin working width and small internal storage, the Fahr M66 is a dreadful harvester compared to the others available. The small working width means that it can take a very long time to harvest any decently sized feild, and the small internal storage means that you will need to constantly be emptying out the harvester. As quickly as possible, save up money and buy a better harvester.
Fahr M66 Cutter
Maintinence: $5 per day
Working width: 3.5 meters
Price: $5,500
Description: This is the cutter for the Fahr M66 and can only be attached to the Fahr M66. The Fahr M66 cannot work without this cutter, so if you buy a Fahr M66, factor the price of the cutter in as well.
Pottinger Mex 6
Maintinence: $50 per day
Attach point required: Small
Attach points: Small on back
Working width: 2 meters
Price: $48,900
Description: The Pottinger Mex 6 is designed to turn corn into chaff. It has no internal storage, but if you drive a tipper near it, the pipe will automatically rotate over it. You can also attach a tipper to the back. When harvesting remember to have the pipe over a trailer or the Mex 6 will destroy the corn, which loses you that section of corn. Also note that the Mex 6 does not harvest directly behind your tractor, but an area 3 meters to the right of it, so drive accordingly. While the Mex 6 is fairly cheap, it can take awhile to get a useful amount of chaff, and since chaff is only really useful lategame, it may be beneficial to not buy a Pottinger Mex 6 unless necessary.
Deutz 5465 H
Horsepower: 150
Maintinence: $340 per day
Top speed: 13 mph
Attach points: None on back, Special in front
Internal Storage: 4,200 L
Price: $199,950
Description: It is worth buying a Deutz 5465 H as soon as possible. It is vastly superior to the Fahr M66 and will speed up your harvesting a lot. It also requires less management because of its larger internal capacity. As for later game, if you want a new harvester, buy a Deutz 7545 RTS because it is more capable. Still, early game, the Deutz 5465 H is a great piece of machinery to have around.
Deutz 5465 Cutter
Maintinence: $30 per day
Working Width: 5.4 meters
Price: $32,000
Description: This is the cutter for the Deutz 5465 H and can only be attached to the Deutz 5465 H. The Deutz 5465 H cannot work without this cutter, so if you buy a Deutz 5465 H, factor the price of the cutter in as well.
Deutz 6095 HTS
Horsepower: 366
Maintinence: $420 per day
Top speed: 13-14 mph
Attach points: None on back, Special in front
Internal Storage: 8,500 L
Price: $265,000
Description: This is essentially the next level up from the Deutz 5465 H. It has a larger working width as well as a much larger internal storage. If, at the early game, you are willing to save an extra $65,000, then this is worth getting. The Deutz 6095 HTS also has the bonus of an open top. While this may seem like a small bonus, it means that you can tell at a glance the capacity of the harvester, which can actually be pretty handy.
Deutz 6095 HTS
Maintinence: $50 per day
Working width: 7.2 meters
Price: $40,000
Description: This is the cutter for the Deutz 6095 HTS and can only be attached to the Deutz 6095 HTS. The Deutz 6095 HTS cannot work without this cutter, so if you buy a Deutz 6095 HTS, factor the price of the cutter in as well.
Deutz 7545 RTS
Horsepower: 450
Maintinence: $510 per day
Top speed: 15-16 mph
Attach points: None on back, Special in front
Internal storage: 9,000 L
Price: $315,000
Description: Effectively, this is the same as the Deutz 6095 RTS, but with a slightly higher internal storage. The main bonus of it is that it is the only harvester that has a corn header. It also has the handy open top.
