An Old Friend
In this map, there are actually quite a few things to cover. The prison has a few new features not present in any other levels as of writing this. Firstly, I'll talk about the different areas.
There are two spots in this map that hold a number of guards, and a new special enemy. Here are both of them.
(This room is located past the solitary cells.)
(Left room)
(Right room)
This one has five guards present. One of which is the special enemy, which we'll talk about in a minute.
(This room is located up the stairs opposite the Solitary entrance.)
This one has four guards present, another which is a special enemy. The difference in this one is that the special enemy will only attack once you walk up there, or until there are are little enemies remaining.
(Note: Walking into these areas before starting the riot will start it.)
This level features two guards with riot gear helmets on. This helmet will render their head completely immune to attack. Alongside this, they are also aggressive by default, and can plough through other NPC's with their nightstick very quickly. Because of their helmet, they negate pretty much half the hits NPC's give them.
The first one is located in the left room in . The second is located behind the door in . He is the one that will attack you once you walk in.
As of 0.8.6, the guards now have new riot shields. So far this is the only level outside of challenges that utilizes them. Shields will make it hard to hit a guard, and near impossible for an NPC to. With a shield, guards will move slowly and jab behind it with their weapon, which pretty much renders them invincible to anyone but the player. The best way to defeat them is to kick the shield, which leaves the enemy disorientated for a few seconds.
Shields can be picked up by the player. They have limited durability like any other item, but block 100% of damage.
Did you know that in this level, you can make allies? If you start the riot by saving certain people, their gang will not attack you when it begins. There are two gangs you can befriend, plus a secret person, but we'll cover that later as well.
To do this, you must find the rooms of the two different gang members. The first one is in the cell block you spawn in. The cell is the 4th one on the left side at the back.
To save the gang member, you have to quickly kill the prisoner who is threatening him. If you hit the prisoner, the riot will start, and if the riot starts, the first thing the prisoner does is kill the gang member, preventing you from saving him. To do this, it is recommended to grab a good weapon, and quickly kill them with it, as kicking them down does not work.
The gang member in question in this one is someone from the basketball court.
The armband on him is distinctive of the others, meaning anyone with these will become a friend. Saving this man will yield you five allies.
The second gang are the prisoners in the gym, and can be befriended by saving a gang member in the other cell block. The cell is the 4th cell on the right upstairs.
This one is actually somewhat different than the other one as it's a little more difficult, at the payoff of more allies. The difference is that three other prisoners guard the walkway, so getting to the prisoner is quite tricky. Attacking the guards first makes it almost impossible to save the gang member. To do it efficiently, jump around the railing and attack the prisoner. Be wary though, as unlike the other, just walking into the cell will start the riot.
By saving this man, you will gain seven allies.
Notice the white shirts. They are distinctive of the gang.
In this level, there is a unique enemy waiting for you in solitary. He does massive damage, and has a lot of health.
This hunk of muscle will sit in the cell until you free him, or until the only enemies remaining are the ones in the cells, at which point they will open automatically. After this, you will have to kill him. But there is a way to befriend him too.
All you need to do is grab a food item that you can throw through the panel. At this point, once the doors open, the thug will not attack you. At least not until only you and him remain.
To free the thug, you have to open the solitary doors by way of one of two buttons.
The buttons are in both Guard Quarters.
One is right next to the doors.
The other is in the quarters opposite.
In the cell block opposite to your spawn, is a cell with two guards standing outside. Inside, is the biker boss from the first level. The cell is the 2nd from the last on the top left side.
Once you attack the guards, or the biker, he will pull a machete out from under his pillow and attack you like last time. Also just like before, it's possible to snatch the machete before he picks it up. To do this, quickly run into the cell and simply take it.
It's also possible that he will be provoked by other prisoners, and can die without ever being seen, but if no one disturbs him, him and his guards will simply attack once the enemies count gets low enough. He has the same qualities as the Bar level. (3x Health/1.5x Attack speed)
(Note: Walking into this area before starting the riot will start it.)
The Secret/Not So Secret Weapons
Here's a rundown of a few of the more important weapons to be found.
There aren't a lot present in this level, as most of the weapons come from the guards and prisoners who are carrying them themselves. Guards are by default equipped with nightsticks, and a few are equipped with stun guns. Nevertheless, there are a few to find.
There are a few weapons in the prison cells, but I'm not gonna name what cells hold what weapons.
This is because finding which cell is which, and naming them correctly is a massive ballache, and is not only laborious to do, but pretty much impossible to remember.
Anyway. In the cells you can expect to find such things as:
Shivs
And sometimes on people:
Pool cues
Guitars
And some more.
And then there is:
Two cleavers in the kitchen
A knife in the freezer in the kitchen. Right side
A tire iron under the counter in the kitchen
A nightstick in Guard Quarters #2
Along with a shotgun on the top shelf(Note: This is the first ranged weapon to be added to the game.)
A nightstick and stungun in the staff room in Guard Quarters #1
Another nightstick in the armoury in Guard Quarters #1
And a baseball bat to the right
The Closing Notes
I hope this was informative, because everything here was a huge pain in the ass to do, as this is one of the most complicated levels so far.
I'd like to thank Fallout_48 for helping me notice certain things. Some things go over my head when I do these, and he helps me find them.
Thanks for reading.
