Adding Beards To Your Female Dwarves
We all know that this is the correct way to play the game, and luckily, it is achievable without modding.
1) Find the correct file
You need to find the file where the creature data is stored.
On Windows, it should be C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Dwarf Fortress by default.
On Linux, it should be ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Dwarf Fortress
From there, navigate to:
Dwarf Fortress/data/vanilla/vanilla_creatures/objects
2) Editing the fileOpen the creature_standard.txt file in your text editor of choice. (e.g. Notepad)
You need to find the [CASTE:FEMALE] line, it should be line 328. Just below it, change the
BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:FACIAL_HAIR_TISSUE_LAYERS line to
[BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:FACIAL_HAIR_TISSUE_LAYERS] (enclosed in [])
This is how this part of the file should look: (note the [] around the 6th line)
[CASTE:FEMALE] The gender tag lets it know how breeding works. [FEMALE] [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] To add beards, put square brackets around the following: [BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:FACIAL_HAIR_TISSUE_LAYERS] [CASTE:MALE] [MALE] [SET_BP_GROUP:BY_TYPE:LOWERBODY][BP_ADD_TYPE:GELDABLE] [BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:FACIAL_HAIR_TISSUE_LAYERS]
3) DoneThis is it, after restarting the game your female dwarves should have beards. You possibly need to regenerate a new world for this to take effect.
