Bringing The Original Music Back
Part 1:Get the original music file Go download a non-steam copy of the game from Bay12. It's a classic!
Once you have that copy, you have the original music.
The original music file is located in the the data\sound folder.
The file you want is called song_game.ogg
That was easy. Part 1 is done.
Part 2: Adding the original music back Take your song_game.ogg and put it in a safe place. Treasure it.
Navigate to your Steam version of dwarf fortress's sound folder. Data\sound\tracks.
Each folder has the new game tracks. Place a copy of the song_game.ogg in each of these folders.
Now in each folder take the main track file and rename it to something else such as "Zz_KG_Full.ogg". You do not need to worry about the short tracks. At least I have not encountered any fussiness with them.
Rename the song_game.ogg to be the name of the file you just replaced.
Yes, you also could have just deleted the file.
Also this means you can replace some but not all songs. (looking at you Forgotten Beast of the month club).
Strike the earth!
