Armok
DwarfFortressWiki: Armok[dwarffortresswiki.org]
Armok, God of Blood, is the name of the creator deity in the lore of the original Slaves to Armok: God of Blood, and the in-game explanation for that game's random world generation:
"Armok, the God of Blood, is just about the only constant in these chaotic random universes. A general sense of conflict keeps Armok appeased - when the universe becomes too boring, it is set on the anvil of creation to be reforged."
"The destruction of the world by Armok will arise inevitably in most game worlds. As civilizations spread and the frontier closes, the world will start to look homogeneous. Armok, looking upon this decadence in disgust, will reform the world. Basically, when the universe has become too boring, it will be changed."
"But who or what is Armok? ARMOK is the God of Blood…The Supreme God, he gives name to the game, his powers are literally endless…He creates and destroys whole Universes just for pleasure and fun. He enjoys watching death, destruction and, of course, blood run on his Universe…In a Universe, he can have billions of worshippers, while in another his existence might be unknown...but HE EXISTS. This cannot be denied, and allows to play almost any type universe…from a standard fantasy-type world to a “primitive”, stone age world…and, why not a “future world” with star travel? In fact, when Armok creates a Universe, he likes putting more than one planet in it!
Remember…Armok can control and destroy all other creatures, including the other, ”lesser” gods, but he usually enjoys watching civilizations grow, because he hopes that one day these civilizations will fight each other, and thus generate conflict and slaughter!"
We know of the slaughter. Forces higher than us guide this world and seek us out under the great hills of stone. All things are forged under the hammer of Armok by the heat of great flame. With such chaos and blood filling our eyes from birth- our raving prophets mouth songs of despair and cheer tunes of evil:
A hymn to Armok:[www.bay12games.com]
Slaughter for Armok! The time is now!
Slaughter for Armok forever more.
Slaughter for Armok, who made my fist
And the blade it holds, stained with gore.
Violence and death: they are our lot.
Armok brings them: they are His love.
We, His children, must love Him well
And love others with studded gloves.
Slaughter for Armok! The time is now!
Slaughter for Armok forever more.
Slaughter for Armok, who made my fist
And the blade it holds, stained with gore.
Violence and death: they are our lot.
Armok needs them: they are His bread.
We, His children, must harvest well
And feed Him mangled, shattered dead.
Slaughter for Armok! The time is now!
Slaughter for Armok forever more.
Slaughter for Armok, who made my fist
And the blade it holds, stained with gore.
Surely, though we be free to roam the hills and carve out great burrows, we are all slaves to Armok: the God of our own bloodshed.[dwarffortresswiki.org]

Megabeast
There is a lesser one's handiwork, who's destructive cunning hazes our mind's eye of Armok's character:
(Job 41:1) "Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?"(Job 41:14-34) "Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about. {15} His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. {16} One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. {17} They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered. {18} By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. {19} Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. {20} Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. {21} His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth. {22} In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him. {23} The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved. {24} His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone. {25} When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves. {26} The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon. {27} He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood. {28} The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble. {29} Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear. {30} Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire. {31} He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. {32} He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary. {33} Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear. {34} He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride."

After an attack on a settlement in worldgen, megabeasts tend to be worshipped by dwarves, most likely out of fear and the hope that worshiping the megabeast may persuade it to not eat its worshippers (this currently does not work at all). The megabeast is listed as object of worship on the dwarves' relationship screen. This does not change your dwarves' behaviour when confronted with an object of worship, nor the megabeast's behaviour when bumping into its worshippers.
Though our stunted brains be as pond pebbles- let our stonesense instinct[dwarffortresswiki.org] be realized- and see around the horse-blinders that this creature has placed on us through worldly strife.
(2 Corinthians 4:3-4) "But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: {4} In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."(2 Corinthians 11:13-15) "For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. {14} And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. {15} Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works."
The Real Armok
My fellow brothers of stone; though the world is chaos and all is under the hand of Armok, by what presumption have we etched the mind of the Supreme God to be so deranged and violent? Though the megabeast razes our very mountain homes- we can not so quickly assume why Armok has let so happen:
DwarfFortressWiki: DF2014:Deity[dwarffortresswiki.org]
"What demon in question is summoned, as well as the reason for this, appears to be linked to the god's particular sphere. For example, gods of death may summon demons "that more may die"; war-gods conduct the ritual "that war may rage forever" or "that great fortresses be raised and tested in siege". Gods of bravery and valor, meanwhile, do the same "that great acts of heroism may be performed."
(1 Corinthians 2:11-16) "For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. {12} Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. {13} Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. {14} But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. {15} But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. {16} For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."(Romans 11:33-35) "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! {34} For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? {35} Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?"(Ecclesiastes 8:17) "Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea further; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it."(Ecclesiastes 11:5) "As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all."(Job 40:6-8) "¶ Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, {7} Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. {8} Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?"(Job 40:1-2) "Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, {2} Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it."
Our thoughts of Armok's thoughts- are not his thoughts. Hear the words of Armok and be stilled:
(Isaiah 55:8-11) "¶ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. {9} For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. {10} For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: {11} So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
Is Arm_ok?
DwarfFortressWiki[dwarffortresswiki.org]
The name of the Dwarven God comes from the variable "arm_ok", which is from Tarn Adams's fantasy game, Dragslay. The variable was used to count the number of arms left, for inventory purposes.
Armok was immediately after used by a Bay12 forums user as a name, and afterwards, it stuck.
No, arm is not ok. The following details why "arm_ok=0"
(Exodus 6:2-3) "And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD (יהוה): {3} And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH (יהוה) was I not known to them."
JEHOVAH
יהוה
Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh (reading the letters from right to left like in Hebrew)
This name is written out and sounded out in varying ways: Yehovah / Jehovah / Yahweh (special abbreviation form)
The letters alone carry ideas in Hebrew
Early Hebrew Letter Alphabet Pictograph Chart
יהוה
Yod - Arm / Hand
Heh - Behold
Vav - Nail
Heh - Behold
behold the nail- behold the hand (for the sake of the pun, consider "arm")
(John 20:24-29) "¶ But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. {25} The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. {26} ¶ And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. {27} Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. {28} And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. {29} Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."
The Chief Stone
Fellow stone-workers, the Armok that we have sung of and dreaded in times past- is not the Armok that truely is; for we have seen that indeed Armok is not arm_ok. As his very hands (arms) were pierced that we might have life instead of death.
We as brick-layers and gem-setters know foremost- that the firstly placed stone is the most critically aligned, on which the rest of the craft is directed by and subject to. Let us rest on this centered stone as it was placed there for the very sake of carrying us safely into the Kingdom.
(Ephesians 2:18-22) "For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. {19} Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; {20} And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; {21} In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: {22} In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit."
Slaves To Armok: God Of Blood
(Ephesians 3:1-6) "For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, {2} If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: {3} How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, {4} Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) {5} Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; {6} That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:"(Hebrews 9:11-12) "But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; {12} Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."
