What Is Realism/ Realism Units?

Realism! image 1

Realism is essentially playing the game in the most realistic way possible. In Day of Defeat: Source, Realism is an extremely popular game-mode in which many people still play to this day. Realism Units tend to hold scrims which are battles held on the most realistic level possible. Two leaders are chosen by the highest ranking officer and the two leaders choose their team, and the players they want on their team. Usually when searching for a server you would see many servers that have the word "Unit" in it. Realism units are extremely popular in Day of Defeat and are also extremely fun.

Weapons

Weapons and their damage output vary based on the server you play, on the 70th ID, all guns are set to their vanilla settings. In realism units, scrims are held at certain times in the day. The highest commanding officer present at the scrim will give weapon restrictions such as a limit on the number of snipers, no live grenades, etc. The listed Weapons and their associated team and class will be posted below.

Boundaries!

Boundaries will always be set up before a scrim starts and the highest ranking officer sets the boundaries. During the scrim neither team is allowed to cross the boundaries or consequences occur based on the officers judgement.

Attack/Defense

There are two sides to a scrim which are Attack and Defense. Usually allies attack first and the axis team defends. After the two leaders choose their teams, the axis leader will have a certain amount of time to set up his defense for the Allied attack. Once the time is over the allied team will attempt to take out all the axis in order to win. The only way for defense to win is to either survive the alloted time for the round or kill all the attackers. The attackers can only win by taking out all the defenders. A team can win a scrim based on a 4 round game, meaning that its best out of 4. This is the basics of attack/defense in realism.

The Tie Breaker!

Sometimes the end of the scrim will end up with Allied team having won two rounds and the axis team having won two rounds as well. Thus a round knowna s A v. A, is held which is simply attack vs. attack. During this round both teams must take rifles and just rush at the other team full force and try to kill them. Note that some realism units might not do this, and some realism units do not count this as a tie breaker.

Thats The Basics!
