Permadeath Tips
• In Permadeath, important to note, if you die, your save file will be erased. Both Permadeath and Penitence Mode can be activated at the same time.
Your save file can be accessed in C:/Users/Username/AppData/LocalLow/Massive Monster/Cult Of The Lamb/saves
Replace Username with the name you have instead. Unaware if this is tracked across the entire PC somehow.
• Permadeath can be unlocked from finishing the game (Slight spoilers, if you require help to unlock) The choice after beating the four Bishops has to be 'Refuse'.
• Choosing Permadeath WITHOUT the Quickstart option will bug the difficulty to "---", which is the tutorial difficulty. Let me know if this has changed and i'll remove this tip.
• Be wary of Bomb icons on top of enemies heads, they'll drop a bomb when they die, even when the room is completely cleared. This also happens when 'God Head or 'Dropper' (Image below) is in the middle of a drop, don't put your guard down until all factors are gone.
• Some enemies can have their attacks interrupted by hitting them, such as Scamp (First photo) who wield Daggers, while the Swordsman (Second photo) who wield "Swordstaffs" (Says the wiki), cannot:
• When you perform a Sermon, you might be able to level up your Upgrades. As soon as you unlock Vampiric Weapons, you could stop leveling the "weapon attribute tree" to restrict the weapon spawning pool to a higher chance of getting Vampiric Weapons.
• For the purposes of Vampiric weapons or Tarot Cards that have a chance of regenerating health, killing Chemach's "followers" counts towards this chance of getting health back.
• When compared to other modes, OUR survival is imperative compared to the Cult's, Tarot Cards such as Neptune's Curse ("Enemies have a chance of dropping a fish upon death") would dilute the Tarot Card pool chances of getting a more useful card; Neptune's Curse is unlocked by "Catching 1 Fish in Pilgrim's Passage", so to avoid unlocking this card you would have to forego The Fisherman's quest or fishing on purpose to feed the Cult. Another card that is arguably useless in this mode would be Wraith's Will ("Destroy breakable rocks on touch"), bought from Plimbo's store, so you can more easily avoid this one.
• For the final boss, get the Hounds of Fate curse if possible. It homes in on enemies (Does it prefer homing in on the boss?), and if the boss disappears to teleport, it will still seek them making you not waste it.
Penitence Tips
• Dying of Hunger or lack of Sleep will erase your save file. Both Penitence Mode and Permadeath can be activated at the same time.
Your save file can be accessed in C:/Users/Username/AppData/LocalLow/Massive Monster/Cult Of The Lamb/saves
Replace Username with the name you have instead. Unaware if this is tracked across the entire PC somehow.
• To unlock Penitence Mode, you have to catch enough spiders in your Cult HQ (They appear mostly at night) so that one of them gives you a skull. Place this skull on a Body Pit and you will unlock Penitence Mode, a Spider Follower with a trait that they won't die on starvation and live longer, and also unlock that form for future Followers.
• Activating Penitence Mode will force Quick Start.
Activating Penitence Mode specifically will skip scripted cutscenes, but not when you meet an NPC in a crusade.
I tried Quickstart only in one file and Permadeath only in another and the first scene with Leshy in Darkwood happens. When I did "PermaTence Mode", this scene (And many more) never happened.
This might be a dumb thing to complain about, but I came back to the game after 6 months of absence and I wanted to see the cutscenes again.
• Build your Cooking Fire as close as possible to the teleporter, just in case.
• Sleeping in your Leader Tent will skip to the next day and refill the Sleep meter. This can be done seconds before sunrise and still get the same effect.
• The Feast Ritual fills your own Hunger Meter.
• Time still moves while deciding Doctrines (And looking them up in the wiki like I did), you might skip a night's sleep due to this.
• Followers will go towards the first meal available, so for them not to eat your meals, or buy more time before someone does, cook yours last.
• The Lamb seems inmune to effects of food like "5% chance of causing illness" , "10% chance of causing Exhaustion" or "15% chance to poop/vomit instantly", but will puke the following food:
Grassy Gruel (Even with the Grass Eater Doctrine)
Bowl of Poop
Minced Follower Meat (But does feed The Lamb)
General Tips
• Blessing or Inspiring a Follower can work with more than one at a time if they're found close to each other. Try doing this at sunrise when all the Followers wake up from their tents, exit the Temple, gather around a dead body you wrapped or are praying at the Shrine.
• Hitting objects help recharge your relic, hitting Kudaai's practice targets do this even while they're not destroyed.
