Overview
Here is the TLDR of the guide.
Go offline and turn off cloud saving. Backup your saves. Locate your backup folder and move desired meta and slot file into the saves folder. Delete original meta and slot files and rename new files. Go online and turn on cloud saving. Choose to keep the local save.
Always Make Sure To Backup Your Save
Please before you do anything involving editing your save whether directly through your game files or using a 3rd party editing software backup your save files!
This is minimally invasive and I haven't seen any problems in my 150 day+ playthroughs using this method but better safe than sorry!
You can do this by following this path ->
|This PC > OS (C:) > Users > YOURPROFILE > AppData > LocalLow > Massive Monster > Cult of the Lamb > saves|
Once you find your save files you can copy and paste the folder onto your desktop for easy access.
Going In Offline Mode And Turning Off Cloud Saving
Make sure you don't currently have your game open!
Put Steam in Offline Mode by going through the Steam tab.
Turn off Cloud Saving by going into the properties tab of Cult of the Lamb.
This prevents steam from trying to access cloud saves while you are editing your files.
Accessing Your Save And Backup Files
Find the backup folder by following this path ->
This PC > OS (C:) > Users > YOURPROFILE > AppData > LocalLow > Massive Monster > Cult of the Lamb > backup
Find two files: meta_#.### and slot_#.###.
The first number shows the save slot and the remaining numbers show the save number. The game automatically stores your ten most recent saves. Depending on how far back you want to go choose an older save.
For example if I want to edit my save in slot one I would look for one of my meta_0 and slot_0 files.
I want to go back to save 0.166 so I copy meta_0.166 and slot_0.166 and paste them into my saves folder.
This PC > OS (C:) > Users > YOURPROFILE > AppData > LocalLow > Massive Monster > Cult of the Lamb > saves
Then delete the original meta_0 and slot_0 files in the saves folder and rename your new files. In my example I am changing the names of meta_0.166 and slot_0.166 to meta_0 and slot_0.
The saves folder should start and finish looking like this:
Check That It Worked
Now you should be able to launch the game normally (still in offline mode) and check to see if your save was reverted.
If you want to practice this on a different save file you can do what I did and label an awaiting follower "testing" and save before and after indoctrinating them into your cult.
If you did it properly your follower should still be in the indoctrination circle!
Sync Your Local And Cloud Saves
Once you come back online you will get a pop up asking you to resolve the cloud conflict. Make sure you choose to preserve the local save.
Thanks For Checking Out My Guide :)
Congrats! Assuming your save file loads correctly you have successfully undone whatever horrible mistake you made!
I found this method 100% on my own after scouring the internet and not finding anything helpful besides "you can't do that sorry" so it might not be the most efficient way.
Thanks for checking my guide out and I hope it helps you in your playthrough : )
Let me know if you have any (reasonable) questions and I'll try my best to help out or if you have anything you think I should add to this guide !
Also back up your save!!!!
