Cult of the Grids

⠀Introduction

In this guide, you will find how to set up grids in Steam.

Steam Grids is feature that allows you to customize the appearance of your game library with unique images. Follow along to learn how to enhance your Steam experience with personalized grids.

I will highlight several ways to customize Steam Grids:

Manually (PC): Manually customizing grids by selecting individual images (game vertical and horizontal thumbnails, big image and logo on game page). Can be a time-consuming and challenging process, especially when you have to change images for over 100 games.

SGDBoop (PC): SGDBoop is a tool that automatically applies assets from SteamGridDB directly to your Steam library with a click of a button, removing the need to download and set them manually.

Steam Deck: On Steam Deck, everything is a bit easier and harder. To achieve this, you will need to install Deck Loader and then the SteamGridDB plugin. However, once you have installed everything you need, setting up grids will be straightforward and convenient.

Feel free to explore these methods and choose the one that suits your preferences and needs.

⠀Manually

For finding new custom grids open SteamGridDB or My grids and download what you prefer.

There are three places in Steam where you can change the grids to your own:

The easiest way is to go to the game page in your library. Right-click on Hero (background) or Logo and set your custom background / logo.

The grid is located in the Library. Find game - right click - set custom artwork.

Method #1: The grid should be in the recent games section. Start the game and then close it. Right-click and set custom artwork.

Method #2: Browse to ...\Steam\userdata\[your id]\config\grid and place the grid in that directory as `[AppID].png` or `[AppID].jpg` (AppID is the numerical code of the game in the link in the browser).

⠀SGDBoop

I don't want to copy the entire guide from the SGDBoop page, so you can read it on your own:

As I mentioned before, this method is actually really cool and much faster!

All you need to do is install SGDBoop on your PC and enable the special buttons on the SteamGridDB website. After that, for installing custom grids needs only click on special button under grid. Voila!

⠀Steam Deck

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Works on Steam Dack. Ha-ha

Everything is almost simple. You need to install a couple of plugins, but it's worth it. It is not difficult.

Decky Loader is a homebrew plugin launcher that allows for the installation of other plugins. One plugin that we need is SteamGridDB. But first need to install Decky Loader:

Click “Steam” button for left side-menu.

“Power”

“Switch to Desktop”

Open any browser and go to https://github.com/SteamDeckHomebrew/decky-loader or simply google "Decky Loader" and click on the first link.

On the page, you will see a large and bright "Download" button. Click on it.

Transfer the downloaded file to the main screen and run it.

Select the settings that best suit your preferences.

Return to Gaming Mode.

If you have problems with any step - you can read more on Decky Loader website, GitHub page or google video-tutorials. Links: Website / GitHub / YouTube

Now you have Decky Loader! EAY!

Last steps:

Open side menu by click on button with three dots.

Open page with Plug icon.

Click on Market button.

Now we can find any useful and fun plugins. Be sure to check them out after you're done with my guide 😉

Find SteamGridDB Plugin and install it.

Now, to change the grid, you need:

Find the game in the Library.

Click on the option button on game.

In the pop-up menu, you need to click the "Change Artwork..." button.

As for me, on the Steam Deck it's the most comfortable way to choose, change and control grids. I hope that someday a similar add-on will appear on the PC.
