Back 4 Blood – Graphics Settings Guide

[Note: This Graphics Settings Guide Only Applies To Back 4 Blood Beta For Now. Things May Change Once The Full Version Comes Out.]

One Of The Most Awaited Zombie Shooters Of 2021, Back 4 Blood, Is Finally Available For The Public To Play. Not The Full Version, Though. For Now, The Beta Version Of The Game Is Available On Steam And Epic Games Store. The Game Has Already Close To 80,000 Players Playing The Game On Steam. Numbers On EGS Are Still Unknown. But You Can Easily Tell That The Number Of Concurrent Players Is Definitely More Than 100k. PC Users Who Have Pre-ordered Back 4 Blood On Steam Or Epic Or Got An Exclusive Early Access Code, Are Eligible For Receiving Early Access To The Beta, And If Everything Goes According To The Plan, “Back 4 Blood Beta” Will Appear In Your Steam Or Epic Library. The Early Access Will Run From August 5 Noon PST To August 9 Noon PST. And The Open Beta Will Run From August 12 Noon PST To August 16 Noon PST.

Except For A Few Issues, Back 4 Blood Runs Quite Smoothly For The Most Part. But It Looks Like Some Players Are Experiencing Some Performance Related Issues Here And There. It Makes Sense, As Not Everyone Is Sitting With A Powerful Gaming PC. In Fact, The Latest Steam Hardware Survey Done On July 2021 Shows That Most Of The Gamers Still Game On Low-medium Graphics Cards.

But This Is The Best Thing About PC Gaming. You Don’t Need Overpriced Hardware To Play Games, As You Can Tweak The In-game Graphics Settings Of The Game You Want To Play And Then Get The Best Performance Out Of It, Even If You Have A High-end Gaming Rig. Let’s Check Out The Guide Now:

Back 4 Blood – Best Graphics Settings

  • Window Mode: Fullscreen (You don’t lose performance on Full Screen mode)
  • Screen Resolution: 1920×1080 (If you are on a higher resolution, you might need to lower your settings even further)
  • Anti-Aliasing: TAA (I found TAA to be the best. FXAA makes the jagged edges a bit too aggressive. You will get more clarity though)
  • Motion Blur: Off (Personal preference)
  • Chromatic Aberration: Off (Honestly! Who uses this?)
  • Adaptive FX Quality: On (Doesn’t affect the performance that much)
  • Field of View: 100 (Personal preference. Test it out yourself)
  • VSync: Off (Turn this on if you are getting constant screen tearing)
  • Limit FPS: Off (You need to personally test this)
  • Post Processing Quality: High
  • Texture Quality: Medium
  • Effects Quality: Medium
  • Shadow Quality: Medium (Set this on low if you need to squeeze out more fps)
  • Foliage Quality: High
  • HDR: Off (Duh!)
  • Graphics API: DirectX 12 (This is something that you have to test all by yourself. Set this to dx12, and see if you are experiencing crashes and constant performance drops or not)
  • Sharpening: FidelityFX (Do not turn this off. Turns the game into a blurry mess)

Okay, So The Reason Why I Said That You Would Have To Test And Decide Whether You Want Your ‘Limit FPS’ To Be ’Off’ Or Custom Capped Is Because Back 4 Blood Is Causing High GPU Usage For Many People. As The Result, GPUs Are Overheating For A Lot Of Users.

Just Use Any Application To Track Your GPU Temperature. You Can Use Nvidia Performance Overlay, If You Use GeForce Experience. Play The Game For 30 Minutes With ‘Limit FPS’ Set To ‘Off’ And See What Temperature Your GPU Is Running At. If It Is Running Too Hot, Then It Is Best To Cap The FPS At 60 (Maybe A Bit Higher On A 144hz Monitor). It Is Better To Be Safe Than Sorry.

Specifications Of Test System

  • CPU : Ryzen 5 5600x
  • GPU : Zotac GTX 1650
  • RAM : 16 GB DDR4 3200mhz
  • HDD : 2 TB 7200 rpm
  • Monitor Resolution : 1920×1080
  • Graphics Driver : Nvidia Game Ready Driver v471.41

Back 4 Blood – Performance Analysis

I Am Still Testing The Game, And I Think That It Too Early For Me To Post Any Benchmark Results. I Have Only Played A Few Quick Runs. For Some Reason, The Game Keeps On Disconnecting Me, Despite My Stable Internet Connection. So I Haven’t Been Able To Test The Game Thoroughly. But From What I Have Seen So Far, I Can Say That Back 4 Blood Runs Quite Well For The Most Part. I Am Currently Testing The Game On A GTX 1650, A RTX 2060, And A RTX 3070. I Will Post The Accurate Numbers On This Article Soon.

If You Want, You Can Actually Check Out This Performance Video Of Back 4 Blood. The Game Is Running On A RTX 2060 Paired With A Ryzen 5 5600x:

One Thing You Have To Remember, The Game Is Still In Beta, And There Is A Huge Chance That Turtle Rock Studios Would Optimize Back 4 Blood A Lot More Before The Full Game Releases.
